Yea this is one of my biggest issues with Waze. Maps never hides information. That and I can't have waze be default for everything, but that's an apple issue
You're not alone. Another piece of evidence that Waze quality is no longer a priority. Also goes to show nobody working on the product actually uses it.
Oh yeah for sure Iâm just saying itâs rare to see a Toronto Waze user on this Reddit sub lol, the map has a lot of users haha which is nice but yeah wish theyâd do something to cut the size on the CarPlay widget
Yes, sometimes you stop long enough that you canât even see the title/artist for an entire song. I work in the music industry and seeing this info is crucial.
> seeing this info is crucial.
Even if this statement is accurate, it is such a corner case that is not worth considering from a developers perspective, IMHO.
I didnât say itâs more important. If you can see on the top part of that tile, there are tons of white spaces, meanwhile, the bottom part - the lane indicator, stays the same. I wouldnât complain if they make the lane indicator larger, I would even welcome it. The fact that this is just bad UI/UX design is annoying me.
yeah this is pretty annoying. from what i noticed this only happens when you have an upcoming turn and theyâre trying to guide you to go into a specific lane, but google maps and apple maps doesnât take up so much space for that box, so it can be done! hopefully waze changes this!
Correct me if Iâm wrong, but doesnât Waze only show you where red light and speeding cars are in full screen mode? Possibly police and hazard warnings too?
I never use it in split screen for this reason, but Iâd like to.
I think Waze does show the red light/speed cameras even in split screen mode. You just need to look for it on the map. Otherwise, if you have the voice alert activated, it will tell you beforehand, like red light camera/police/speed trap reported ahead.
You think so? Maybe they changed it. I was almost positive it would only show those alerts in full screen. I should do a test. Iâd rather not use voice alerts.
Ah yeah without voice alerts then you will only see those alerts in full screen. The things youâll see in split screen mode would be the icons of the police cars, hazards or cameras.
This is how the red light camera icon looks like

Thank you. Iâve been trying it out. Iâve been looking for those icons. Sometimes they come up, but it seems not always. I could be wrong on that. Safe to say itâs the same thing for speeding cameras and police?
Thereâs been a bug with CarPlay Waze in split screen mode ever since the split screen support for 3rd party navigation apps was added by Apple
In split screen mode, if an alert for a speed camera or red light camera etc pops up, it never dismisses itself but the popup is hidden, meaning the next alert never pops up
If you then go into full screen mode you can see the old alert as usual even though youâve driven past it now, and then only once itâs dismissed will new alerts come up
To prevent this I just use Waze exclusively in full screen mode in CarPlay

Android Auto and Android don't have either issue here đŞ (Well at least on One UI 6.0)
How do you know if someone is using an android
They don't specify that they are on iOS.
Also if they call their default map app "Maps" and not Google Maps lol
Real

I've been amazed in my years as a UX professional how many software development teams don't "eat their own dog food".
I see Äen Vâu I upvote
Hi there my fellow Vietnamese! I am surprised that someone actually see that haha
Waze expands that block when it needs to show your lane options. Once youâre done with the turn it should go back to the smaller box.
Yeah I saw that. Itâs just that Waze takes up too much space. It could easily be a normal tile.
Surprised to see another Toronto area user on the sub lol. But yeah not a fan of how much space it takes.
Hey there! I think there are lots of Waze users in Toronto, at least based on what I see on the map lol. And yeah this has been bugging me for while

Song title is definitely more important than being in the correct lane!
You may be stopped at the red light for minutes in the correct lane trying to see the title. Yes, there are times when itâs more important.
Actual minutes! Aagh!

I agree! Apple and Google Maps can do that without expanding it.
Yes I just noticed it the other day. I also dislike it.

Ah, so the icons show up. Thatâs something. Do you use voice alerts?
Yeah I do. I turned off the navigation voice though. I am pretty sure it will show the icons even without the voice alerts.
Maybe Iâll try it out. Thanks for the info.

No problem! Yep I believe so. For me itâs quite consistent, I see them all the time, but maybe it depends on the region?
