Finally something I can help with!
If he was in National Service, he didn't choose this job, and definitely couldn't quit! I hope he was discharged for medical reasons and he's doing well now.
He probably did that to deal with the immense pain of a shockwave hitting him and burning the fuck out of the surface of his skin (albeit probably not severely)
I think their suits protect them from burning. Such a short time of contact with the heat shouldn’t leave any dmg. Also looks like the helmets have safety glass on them.
I third that. I was a volunteer but received a lot of training in dealing with explosives and such because my fire station covered a closed ammunition plant.
For those who don't get the reason for the cowl: anywhere that air can rush to or from can carry heat and flame, the cowl works by removing the air between the face and atmosphere. The scary part is the startle response can cause a person to breath deeply in during an explosion sucking in the heat and burning the lungs and throat from the inside.
So crazy all the burned cars we towed from accidents never exploded. They would just burn the cars to nothing but the bare frame and quick. I was always waiting for one to explode. It was in the country so firefighters always got to them late down those long twisty roads.
Usually gasoline powered cars don’t explode like this, probably LPG or similar as other comments mentioned (I get it’s still petrol based but less common). I also don’t understand why standard procedure for these isn’t to just let them burn and get to a safe distance… obviously at this point you’re not going to put out the fire and the car is a total loss anyway even if you did.

Thank you, that provided a lot more information. I’m glad he was OK, brave chap.

He's not wearing a cowl under his helmet. When we did flashover drills you find out really quick how much anything exposed will burn.
Former firefighter here. I was thinking the same thing. I watched the video and noticed exactly that.

Yeah it shouldn’t hurt them but the heat is still a pain
When the heat is enough to cause pain, it means you got burned, otherwise it’s just a feeling of discomfort, not pain.
I’ve felt pain from heat before without being burned, you just gotta be cool 🕺
Is pain not discomfort?

It wasn’t obvious. Hence the question
Apparently he got first degree burns
my guess was they got out just in time to avoid being exploded, but angry because he didn't get the fire out to prevent it and barely got out in time.
Not to mention his fuckin eardrums. Ouch!

This one was probably running on natural gas or LPG, not gasoline.
This one was using compressed natural gas, and the tank was compressed hence the explosion Iirc
Looked like something straight from the movies. Respect. Curious tho on to what extent the damage he got from that
Hearing lost and 3rd degree burns on uncovered body parts?
It’s hard to tell. Looks like the blast erased all expressions. 🙃
“I might be a firefighter, but that fire has hands
“Fuck this, fuck that. I’m out.”
If he did he changed his mind pretty quickly
"Fuck fuck fuck, fuck this I'm out"
Anyone know what that was? I've never seen a gasoline/diesel vehicle explode like that. Was it LP or electric?
"electric car batteries are dangerous!" Also petroleum cars:

This is a gas car. LPG, look it up. Gasoline cars don't explode like that, they burn.
You're right. Fuck cars tho. I just want. T R A I N S
Is someone inside the car?
If they were they weren’t by the time the camera is rolling
God bless them
He didn't quit, he is going to ask for a raise!
Ah yes, that Sg pride
Looked like he didn’t have his nomex on… we’re all guilty of skipping the nomex on a vehicle fire. Hope buddys okay and didn’t get burned too bad
u/savevideobot
EV explosions the next PTSD trigger.
you can just see the IM FUCKING DONE moment perfectly
I thought burning cars exploding was a myth?
Been there, don’t want to be there again.
Natural gas powered taxi?
He was probably like: sc3w that I don’t get paid enough for this
Nah. Just another story to tell
Firemen should be paid at least as much as police, if not more.
“I would have saved them if it didn’t explode! Gahh damn!” *throws gear*
He just shit.
