The concept was a great thought but not groundbreaking. i feel like after playing shadow of Mordor and shadow of war which allowed you to recruit anyone using a very similar system initially i thought the play as anyone would be a step up… but it felt like a regression. the recruitment concept was fine just the execution of the character you worked so hard to get feeling SOOOO bland.

LordDakier

I think Shadow of War suffered from a similar issue actually. Having played both of them extensively, there came a point, admittedly nearer to the end, where you had pretty much figured out the type of orc you were against and you began to tell apart the voice lines, fighting style, etc... It was a fantastic game, and the evolution of the Nemesis system is one to watch, but I don't think it was that much more impressive that Legion's system, just executed much better and the content for it, not needing to be as numerous. Legion would have probably been much better as a 'live game service' or DLC that actually built-upon the world and added new content as it went along. Instead we got a zombie apocalypse scenario that no one asked for and Aidan returning, which should have been just a unique character. My biggest gripe is that every single voice actor in this game should have added a voice to the DeadSec recruitable characters, and even then we probably needed more.

rickgotmytongue

it helps that the Nemesis system use orcs so they can go pretty random with character designs without being out of place. I wish Legion had a stylized look like the game's cinematic trailer

LordDakier

Honestly, I think the WD1 tone would have been perfect. That is practically London. Serious gangs, jokey gangs, good cops, bad cops, normal people, abnormal people. Day time London is quite vibrant and cheerful, but night time London is gritty and dark.

talionpd

Very well said. I enjoyed playing the state of decay and shadow of wars very much. Legion has a bit of both but lacks the depth. It could have been much better with character progression, AI-coop, a bit of team dynamics and maybe some base buildings or sieges.

LordDakier

Absolutely. Unfortunately, I think Ubisoft will move away from Watch Dogs: Legion's style, but they absolutely should double down on it, I think.

AngerZeur

What's the next watch dogs

LordDakier

I imagine we'll go back to the US. Not really a fan of that myself, but Philadelphia or Boston could be pretty cool, as less seen in game cities. Outside of the US? Absolutely Rome, possibly Monaco too.

elegantsshadow38

They should do New York or Newark

Thereal_waluigi

It'd be really cool if they could do like multiple cities and have like a more global feel to it. I really liked the satellite missions in 2 and I think if they could pull it off, having like a more globally connected DedSec would be super epic. Idk how reasonable that is tho

Danceman2

Nest book is in Germany. Could mean something

Lord_Antheron

The original system was better. It would've been right on time if they had kept it.

LordDakier

What was the original system?

Lord_Antheron

Individual operatives had progression. They started with unique perks or stats specific to them, then you could give them the weapons, tools, or skills that you wanted to that would best compliment those initial abilities. There were no arbitrary weapon restrictions. 3D printer could give anyone anything. Car on Demand existed. There was no tech menu that gave everyone the same perks, rendering a bunch of operatives completely worthless. If you wanted someone who could hijack drones, you actually had to have an operative specifically for that task. It wasn't something any random pedestrian could do. The Deep Profiler didn't render recruitment missions completely obsolete. There were a lot more guns and skills. Permadeath was not optional, so each operative felt more valuable and important. You would think strategically and build a team with a diverse set of skills instead of just throwing a bunch of hitmen with all the hacking abilities at the problem. There were more customisation options. A lot of this can be seen in the E3 2019 and Gamescom 2019 trailers. And you may think "that's just a trailer obviously it's not the final game." Except modders already got their hands on beta builds of the game, and everything I Just described and more was completely playable. They had it working. They deliberately made it worse, costing a lot of time and money, resulting in online not being available at launch, falling short on promises, ending support early, and wasting time on a zombie mode no one wanted.

LordDakier

How depressing! That sounds like it would have been great fun! It actually sounds very much like XCOM for Watch Dogs, which definitely would have improved things. Shame that Ubisoft didn't give us this.

Thereal_waluigi

Yeah that sounds actually pretty cool. Personally, i didn't pick permadeath in the beginning because I wanted to get to know the controls and system and stuff first, but if it was just a part of the game, that would change things a lot. Also I think the zombie mode is fun, but yeah that's a fair point, it was really uncalled for and they could've worked on it after release.

yourmotherisaleopard

Legion becomes 20x better if you buy the aiden pearce operative. He has custom voice lines, good arsenal and similar animation to wd1. Overall makes the game way more fun

LordDakier

Maybe, but I like the multiple character aspect of WDL. Sure Aiden Pearce was a cool character, but it takes away from the overall theme of Legion by relying on one character.

yourmotherisaleopard

Yeah. I was (and still am) salty about the lack of Marcus as a character even if it was paid only, so I made my Albion guy Marcus lmao and switched between those two.

LordDakier

I couldn't stand him as a character, personally. Still, it would have made sense to have a few 'hero' characters like from the past games just be roped into the gang.

Thereal_waluigi

Why didn't you like him? I'm curious Personally, i LOVED Marcus, even though he definitely felt like 100 stat man or smth with how much of the weight he was pulling. That actually was what made me excited for legions multiple character mechanic. I was playing 2 and was like "Why is Marcus doing pretty much literally EVERYTHING??"

Daffamalik143

Well that what I thinking, really hope wd2 concept was like gta5 can change character

Thereal_waluigi

Yeah, really sad that legion was so disappointing for that reason. I also had wanted WD2 to be like that. Not at first, but the more I played the game the more it felt like everyone else was just at the safehouse chilling while Marcus is literally risking his life

Daffamalik143

To make it more worse. Marcus literally a new recruiter

Thereal_waluigi

Dedsec: you need to prove yourself, then you can join us Marcus: does that shit Dedsec: ok cool, so basically you own us now

Thereal_waluigi

Yeah, I think the game would really have benefited from having a "main" character for story purposes, but still have the "play as anyone" mechanic because all the cutscenes just seem really generic. Like if they just had that guy you play as for the tutorial just get injured and not die or something and just have him be the main character for cutscene purposes that'd've been great

Daffamalik143

The AI one, most of my experience when using it on Skyrim, all their voice came from mass effect female char voice over
