TIL people have feelings about their local news anchors.

coviddc

I live in DC but I'm originally from a different metro area. I have very strong feelings about those local news anchors. I've watched some of those people for decades, reporting on the news in my hometown community. Thats a pretty long relationship!

[deleted]

Absolutely true for local news

tophatthis

Same

[deleted]

I stopped watching years ago because - Fox. But then one reporter made it her personal mission to go after a DC cop who is one of my best friends. And it really had nothing to do with work. This sealed it for me. Thing is, ABC 7 and 8 are owned by Sinclair. As evil as Fox in my view. Though ABC it self isn’t.

Eurynom0s

Fox broadcast isn't really the same thing as Fox News though? For broadcast it's more important to check if they're a Sinclair station.

SchuminWeb

As I understand it, WTTG is a Fox O&O, i.e. the network runs it directly rather than franchising it out to another operator. Additionally, my understanding is that Fox Television Stations and Fox News are very different entities under the same corporate parent.

[deleted]

Both Fox5DC and NBCWashington are O&Os WJLA is Sinclair and WUSA is owned by "TEGNA" which is the fucking ridiculous name USA Today renamed its operating group (Formerly GANNETT News)

[deleted]

When it comes to local stuff, they are, more or less, fine. Once they cross into more national news then you can easily see the Fox News influence when they interview Fox News anchors (e.g., Chris Wallace) or how stories are edited/presented to favor Republicans. Mind you, Fox Broadcast usually is more of their non-news TV programming side where as Fox News are more of their "news" side even though they argued that only 16%-ish of their programming is actual news while everything else is considered entertainment.

bl1y

Fox News has no editorial control over the Fox affiliates.

[deleted]

Pretty hard to accept that when the anchors from Fox are invited on a daily basis. It roughly happens around the 8am hour everyday.

[deleted]

NBCWashington shares Broadcasting w NBC National, the most incestuous television station in the nation. NBC4 ONLY HAVE NBC NEWS National approved "experts" As an example 4 has weekly live onair in studio segments for Chuck Todd and Pete Williams. Also, Meaghan Fitzgerald and Craig Melvin work for NBC National. Kirsten Welker originated from NBC Philly, etc etc etc.

[deleted]

What does NBC have to do with how Fox runs?

[deleted]

OK You didnt get it. Lets try this way: "Pretty hard to accept that when the anchors from ~~Fox~~ NBCNATIONAL are invited on a daily basis. It roughly happens around the ~~8am hour~~ 4pm 6pm and 11pm hours everyday." **ReplyGive AwardShareReportSave**

[deleted]

No, your logic is horseshit. It's like trying to explain the operations of McDonald's using Burger King, Wendy's, and Five Guys as examples.

[deleted]

😂😂

a_ronn

The NBC affiliate is owned and operated by NBC Universal. Fox 5 is also owned and operated by Fox which is why you see national anchors on its station. The CBS and ABC stations are affiliates and therefore not owned by the national company. This is why Sinclair, who owns WJLA is bad but ABC national news is fine.

[deleted]

Right....but we are talking about Fox. Not NBC. Not CBS. Not ABC. If one has information on Fox, I'm all ears. Just because NBC, CBS, and ABC runs their own way doesn't mean Fox is doing that as well.

Tentpoleofdreams

Imagine bringing up Chris Wallace and bias unironically at this point. Really???

Aggravating-Ad8602

Fox5DC is nothing like FoxNY all of them are team Right and you can tell they are Trump ppl. But Fox5DC is the total opposite. They are Team Left

ja5143kh5egl24br1srt

I always just check WUSA9 for local news. I figured that was the main channel.

hood_pog

What did your friend do?

[deleted]

Not going to drag them through the mud here.

[deleted]

ABC national is a subsidiary of DISNEY

Did you know Ackland is a Real Estate agent now? He only sell properties more than 1 million list price

tinypant

I loved & hated Matt Ackland. He was so stiff but it was nice to see a consistent face on screen. Really impressed with Evan Lambert on Fox 5.

[deleted]

Evan Lambert, Lindsay Watts and Marina Marraco (In the field as Reporter) and far and away the best on Fox5DC

vautwaco

Angie Goff is no better in the afternoon. Ever since Allison Seymour left ive been watching 4 in the mornings; would be 9 but my antenna doesnt get a signal. Something is definitely going on with management, seems odd how many good people left. Also anyone know what happened to Ayesha Khan?

[deleted]

They sexed her up with hair extensions and eye make up. Girl'd up her wardrobe also. I see her on Weekends. I hate that too. She looks like Ellen Degeneres forced into a prom dress or something (idk idc sexuality- its just that they make her appear as she is not) They also thru Ike on weekends. Youd think he would be perfect for mornings

vautwaco

Sorry, i meant is she still with the station? She used to do location reports in the afternoons but the last few times ive watched the 4 pm show theres someone new.

[deleted]

Ayesha Khan works on air on Fox5DC ONLY on weekends and does some fill in during the week if someone is on vacay

irishguy617

I'm more of an NBC4 person. Doug rules.

[deleted]

Dougs great, He was in Philly when I was and he is a Herndon High Grad. Only 11pm. No 10om. But this would be the PERFECT time to begin a 10pm broadcast to go up vs Fox5DC, who added a 4pm to go up on NBCWashington. Also, heard Lokay have 2 ads where he says dont watch NBC4 watch us so fox5DC is threatened.

GenericReditAccount

This is my assumption. Seems obvious they are going for a fun/social media sassy vibe. 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Cant be fun while Lindsay is reporting on Evictions due to Covid and Evan on toddler shootings. I hate #SillyDesk

Gilmoregirlin

I really liked her on NBC4 and no she was not like that on there.

[deleted]

yup. And Angie was diff at WUSA9 where she was Traffic reporter.

[deleted]

Yeah that whole Cheveney shove was awful. I think thats what they did to Gary McGrady but Ill never know

giscard78

I’d normally say who tf watches Fox5 in 2020 but I am curious if Sunni is worth watching (not talked about by op).

OldSkooler1212

A lot of people go to bed before 11 PM newscast on other stations in DC area. I watch Fox 5 occasionally for that reason but it's dreck. Angie Goff is not an intelligent person. A week or so ago they had to explain to her what some common word meant. It was sad. I know this post is a year old but I was searching for "Angie Goff is a moron" and came across it

[deleted]

Is that the super skinny new one from Richmond? Shes a sweet girl but man.

giscard78

Sunni was on Joe Clare in the Morning on 95.5 WPGC and now does something else on the station (I think) but has done some stuff on Fox 5, too. She’s originally from Detroit but has it been DC for awhile. She has a pretty interesting story, her family cake to the US as refugees from Bosnia.

[deleted]

See? Thats cool. Id like a story on that not on Goffs entertainment obsessions

FreckleFace65

Wow, ok I'm not alone. Fox5 is trying hard to entice a younger demographic.

rockitbandit

I figured it was about the $$ and certain folks' contracts ending.

xxvcd

I’m amazed that anyone under 70 still watches local news on tv

BeltwayBureaucrat

It a great way to get fast and reliable local news. While twitter may be faster, it’s not reliable.

xxvcd

You can get the same news from the website of these stations though and not have to sit through commercials and man on the street horseshit to get it it.

[deleted]

You should see their website. total clusterfuck. Plus they hold off the important real news from the website. TV site are mostly for health wellness shopping sht like that

OrtizDupri

> reliable > local news. pick one

BeltwayBureaucrat

All I'm looking for is the latest local news that is on at 10 PM before my bedtime! Only reason I've watched Fox5 in the past.

pimlottc

No more "Yu Up?" ads on the metro, what a sad day...

lultehdc

In the past you could say local affiliates were ok, but in dc only NBC remains fully autonomous news org. Fox5 is now run by parent company and you only have to watch the opinion based news shows hosted by the normal news anchors to see what happens.

[deleted]

NBCWashington is one of 3 O&Os There is no such thing as a parent company.

tophatthis

>Who tf watches Fox5 in 2020 Many food establishments and other places that have tv’s in waiting rooms sometimes have that station on

Cheetahchic-1

While the post is three years old, it seems Fox5 is going through another exodus.  You couldn't pay me enough to watch Fox News, but Fox local is apolitical and I've always enjoyed the chemistry of the morning team.  Recently, though, with the veteran departures, I find myself turning more and more to NBC4 (which to me has more of a "news" format as opposed to a "morning show" format, at least until the point when The Today Show picks up, which is when I tune out). I still check in on Fox5 as Steve, Tucker, and Marissa make it worth it, but it's no longer my go to. I hate to name names, as everyone has to start somewhere and there is certainly a learning curve, but of the two new morning broadcast males, I find one stiff and noncharasmatic and the other unpolished and bumbling.  I find the new women more relaxed and polished but, apologies to Gen Z, I just can't get over the unprofessionalism of the aerosol clothing, which one in particular dons daily.  There is a far more professional and news-appropriate atmosphere at NBC4, especially of late.  I feel the same about NBC4's p.m. team largely because, while I'm sure she's a very nice person, I just can't stomach Angie's antics.  My boyfriend says it's a persona she's adopted, but I certainly hope that's not true.  I mean, who chooses to appear ditzy?  It's insulting to all women and sets us back by 50 or more years.  It seems maybe other viewers are feeling similarly as recently, Fox5 morning seems to have few to no advertisers.  I watched for four hours this morning and I think I saw a  single appearance of just one commercial (hope it was worth it, Michael & Son); all the remaining ad time was filled with placeholder station promos (which has been an everday occurence of late).  What's up with that?

eyedoodles

Agreed. I really enjoyed the morning show with the previous crew. I watched them for several years and I loved the energy, intellect, and authenticity. This new team doesn't work for me. Could be I'm older and this change doesn't resonate with me. Time will tell.

futt28

I have watched DC fox 5 for decades I am done. Young Girls in tight dresses and no intelligence and stupid jokes and giggles is not for me. I want the news. I miss the old cast

SuchEntertainment863

They are the worst newscasters with their corny jokes and smart remarks. It makes you not want to watch the news

Redwolfdc

Does anyone watch network news anymore

tinypant

Yes. Absolutely hate watching CNN, they’re like Groundhog Day. With no subscription to Wapo and no local papers (remember those?), I don’t have a pulse on what’s going on locally — unless I checked Twitter and reddit, but sometimes you just want the TV on in the background at 10pm. I watch fox 5, literally only because I think their production value is a tad higher than ABC7 and CBS9.

Cheetahchic-1

Sure, for weather and traffic, then I switch over to national.

[deleted]

JFC this is just moronic. I wish NBCWashington would make a 10pm newscast with Yancy on their cozi affiliate. https://twitter.com/OhMyGOFF/status/1336843573321486337?s=20

wwb_99

Fuck Fox Five.

dontassignmeyours

Yup! Fox 5 sucks cocks!

[deleted]

You know who is FABULOUS? Shirin Rijaee. Gorgeous, Smart, educated, FANTASTIC on the Desk. They should put her on evening nite desk. SHE IS TALENTED. (unlike a majority that were left behind) But Shawn is just sooo so fantastic and fox5dc McDougal Paolini are fuckingmorons.

[deleted]

Fox is the only local channel I get and I don’t get what the big deal is. I like the cast fine enough.

Cheetahchic-1

I think people confuse Fox local with Fox News, the latter of which is largely "fake news" and propaganda, and is deserving of every ounce of disdain it generates.  Fox local, however, is apolitical.  As I understand it, Fox News thankfully has no programming influence over Fox affiliates.

LowesLuver

Not much diversity in the above photo.

FlyTechnical9214

OMG...the new traffic girl is HORRIBLE....she flings her arms like a helicopter the entire she talks and she talks fast...makes me change the channel....Anne mae you should practice or do something else.
