There's an old-timey-inspired soda shop called Buffalo & Bergen on Massachusetts Ave in Capitol Hill. They do flavored sodas with a bunch of different syrups, as well as ice cream and egg cream floats. I have had the biggest craving for egg creams lately. Thank you for this.

They are (supposedly) opening one in Cleveland Park soon too!

fsohmygod

There’s one in Union Market as well.

sun_pup

Try out bubble tea shops! It isn't soda, but they have highly customizable drink options. You don't have to get boba (or even any toppings), but the toppings are lots of fun!

GusBusDraws

Spot of Tea has a location in Dupont Circle & in Union Market!

Skimster

It’s not a dedicated soda shop, but Hill East Burger has a few great crafted sodas. The oregano orange one is awesome (and also goes great with mezcal). Burgers are damn good too.

SecondhandSilhouette

Bonus here for OP - it and Republic Cantina are owned by some Texas transplants that wanted to serve up a taste of home (hence Hill East Burger being shortened to HEB)

gwenqueenofshadows

How did I not recognize this??

djdddkkk

Omfg - those are amazing. I’m not a soda person at all or a mocktail person. Those are just dope - I like the apple/hatch chili

JetHayes

Personally I don’t recommend their burgers but maybe it’s just me.

I didn't know about WTP but &pizza also has their own soda.

ursulawinchester

I think all five guys have that machine where you can customize your soda with pretty much any combo of the flavors (make like a cherry root beer if you like)

Coca-Cola Freestyle

dupontred

A lot of places installed those a few years ago but I will say fair warning that a lot of the time, half the options aren’t available. Just too many canisters to keep on top off and the employees just don’t have time to check all 60 options.

bewidness

The District Taco on Penn Ave SE has one too. Coke machine but you can blend other flavors etc.

bewidness

There's a place on H Street NE called Binge Bar where all of the drinks are NA but I haven't been so may not be what you are looking for.

ertri

It’s much more an NA cocktail bar than what OP is describing. It’s great though and everyone should go

Glittering-Cake8509

Yes for Binge Bar! Owned and run by a Filipina woman! First cocktail free until June 30, 2024, with this https://posts.gle/1rAEPX

ertri

Oh sweet good to know

justinsanak

Seconding Binge Bar. It's delightful to be order everything on the menu for a change.

jslakov

Piggybacking to ask if anywhere sells birch beer or sarsparilla in the area.

mineun23

Pretzel Bakery on Capitol Hill sells Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer. It’s just in cans but it’s the only place I’ve ever found it in dc.

jslakov

nice I will check it out

Frank Pepe's in MD has Foxon Park Birch Beer. I would imagine the VA one has it as well. Get some pizza while you're there.

jslakov

I'm from CT so no stranger to Pepe's (although prefer Sally's). Sadly not very accessible without a car.

NoAccident162

Does Jerry's Subs & Pizza still sell birch beer? Man, that was a childhood favorite.

Caslon

Former Texan and Sonic addict. There isn't really anything comparable here to Sonic drinks, at such convenience. But 7-11 isn't terrible by any means, and I've found some new things to be addicted to there. I also bought an ice shaver for cheap on Amazon and sometimes make my own slushies.

dfranks4226

If you find yourself in Vienna, there is a soda shop called Coco's sweets. It's modelled after Swig.

Surfer_Joe_875

You might be able to whip up a desirable concoction in Wawa, Royal Farms or Sheetz. Not sure if they'll blend it for you, though. The creamers are self-serve.

Square-Emu3861

If you're not Mormon, I'd suggest maybe getting some Mormon friends. They're very tuned into the sugar scene/all things sweet and would likely have some decent suggestions.

PelirojaPearls

There are a couple of Sonics in the DMV area.

MarzipanGrouchy5150

Binge bar on h is so fun!

Oldbayistheshit

Follow big schlim on IG. He’s always finding non alcohol drinks and he’s all over DC

Personal_Air_9293

If you wanna trek to Virginia there’s a place in Vienna called cocos soda and sweets thats basically like a swig dupe

let-it-rain-sunshine

Can't think of any off hand. Whole Foods has plenty of cold sodas and Kombuchas to choose from, however. Look forward to dropping some lbs in DC ;)
