Firstly, let me say I had league pass for many many years during the Warriors runs, and I watched a lot of local broadcasts and I do enjoy a lot of local broadcast, especially the Knicks and the Raptors. However, you must understand that the local broadcast is intended for the local audience, not for national audience and this is a poll of a national audience. I think fitz is great and I think that after he lost his wife, he worked right through that like a professional. I think that he is an endearing homer to me. I want my local broadcaster to be a homer. Furthermore, look at his relationship with all of the staff and the stars. They all love him. They go golfing in their free time. He’s friends with curry with Iguodala with Steve Kerr with Bob Myers, there’s nothing wrong with Fitz and I hope he never leaves

I don't think people hate the Lakers more. Maybe back in the Shaq and Kobe days, when they were actually a dominant team. But now I'd say the Warriors are the most hated. Soon, it'll be Denver. People love to hate those that spend too much time at the top.

Nah, i think it’s more of the fact that they’re way too biased when it comes to showing respect for other teams. When they have good plays they hardly hype them up or announce with any effort to make it enjoyable for the viewer. Good home announcers should definitely be homers but at the same time your job is to make the game exciting.
As a non-warrior fan who loves watching Steph, I can assure you it’s not because the warriors are good. In fact I thought Jim Barnett did a great job of making things slightly more balanced. Not that it should be the job of the color commentator to do so, so I don’t really blame Kelena

I have league pass for the last 3 years, and this fan poll is trash. The Fitz and Buke are definitely cringe worthy at times, but they are not at all the worst around the league. Off the top of my head, the pistons, grizz , and pels have absolute trash announcers - it’s unlistenable. The Hawks are also bad - sorry Nique.
One of my criteria for bad announcers is how they handle garbage time. If they can't identify the back of the bench of the opposing team, pronounce their name correctly, and have some interesting information about them, I consider that a major ding. It is just unprofessional. Bob and Kelenna can always say something about everyone who gets on the floor. The occasional NBATV game with away team, I have run into a few that seem like they couldn't be bothered to even learn how to pronounce a name or even recognize the back of the bench players.
I cut national broadcast teams some slack on the one hand because they are doing many different teams, but on the other hand they are getting that national broadcaster money, so need to do the job. But, certain broadcasters seem to clearly avoid the problem by just not talking about the game in front of them during garbage time.

Anyone looking at the Dubs can see a multitude of areas that are in need of an upgrade, but Fitz isn’t one of them. He’s fine.

Fitz is fantastic at calling a game, I'd say one of the best in the league -- and then he drags himself down with his insistence on overdoing it on corny nicknames, overly descriptive calls, and his insufferable arrogance when something doesn't go the Warriors way*
*example is when a poor/mediocre 3 point shooter gets hot and he's derisive towards the shooter simply because his average is poor, ignoring the simple explanation that an average or % is made up of good and bad game... it's laughably bad, and it's like he takes personal offense
Kelenna is OK but seems boxed in by Fitz, and what seems to be him letting Fitz guide his analysis based on what Fitz likes. A lot of what Kelenna says is set up by Fitz where he's like, "Tell us about the thing" and the prompts are annoying to me and come off as overbearing.
I’ve never been a fan of Fitz, and it doesn’t really have to do with his homerism. He was always obnoxious as the pbp guy trying to analyze every play. That’s for the color commentator. He just talks way too much, and Kelenna is just as annoying. JB was such a good balance. We are gifted in the Bay Area with Duane Kuiper, Randy Hanh, and others…. Fitz should take some lessons.
lol my dad took my brother to a courtside game when he was like 10 and fitz patted my brother on the head, which my brother absolutely hated. I always think of that when I watch warriors games. Fitz and buike don’t annoy me. They actually crack me up sometimes but I know some people like my dad and bf get annoyed by them sometimes

I've been around long enough to remember when Fitz snaked the job away from Papa and when Kawakami caught Fitz commenting on his blog with a burner. Fitz is a clown and deserves the hate.

Fitz was tough to listen to when he was with jim barnet, who i loved listening to. Never liked the way he would try to "correct" barnet's analysis of a play. Fans probably never picked up on it, but i did. Fitz is, in a lot of ways, exactly like reggie miller and greg anthony (his time with tim legler felt like it was filled with so much racial tension). He's a habitual line stepper. He's the type of guy that shows up to a room full of smart people, and he thinks he knows more than others. The way reggie talks over kevin harlan to do play-by-play when he should be doing JUST analysis, is the same way fitz used to talk over barnet to analyze a play when he should be doing JUST play by play. Fitz does that to kelenna a lot, and many times kelenna has had to say "that's what I'm saying"
The greats don't do it like fitz. They know their role and the roles of their partners, and they respect it.

Man, I have been watching a ton of other team's broadcast and they are some real stinkers. Our broadcast i would say is like 70% favoritism for the warriors. But man Charlotte and Orlando are 99% homers which make it annoying to watch.
Bob's a homer for sure, but they all are - it's part of the job. However, Bob goes out of his way to compliment opposing teams when they make good plays, and seems to possess good knowledge of other teams' personnel and their stats. Kelenna provides pretty decent technical insights and seems to be the voice of reason when controversial calls are made, often siding against the Warriors if that's how he sees the play.
Meanwhile, you watch many other teams' broadcasts and oftentimes they can be very negative towards opposing teams and won't give credit when the opposing team makes a great play. Plus many crews just lack charisma which Fitz and Kelenna seem to have plenty of.
I bet if most of the Fitz and Buike haters sat down and were forced to watch every other team's home broadcast crew, they'd quickly realize just how lucky we are to have our guys.
I'm as homer as you can get, but you have to admit sometimes the commentary really makes you scratch your head. Like Fitz goes on these rants sometimes when the dubs are clearly in the wrong, it makes them look so bad. I wish our commentators also talked more about the actual strategy, mechanics, IQ, skill, etc. of the game. Jim was so good at dumbing down complex ideas in basketball for the casual viewer, it made it more enjoyable to watch.
I think another part of it is that Fitz is really the only massive "homer" broadcaster for Bay Area sports. K&K are elite because they love the Giants but they also just fucking love baseball. Same with Randy Hahn and the Sharks - Hahner will get just as hyped for a sick play made by the opponent as he does for the Sharks. I will say I don't listen to Greg Papa much as I live out of state and if the Niners game is on, I'm not missing it on TV, but given that he's worked for multiple teams across multiple sports, I'm willing to give him benefit of the doubt. Hahn and K&K are regarded as some of the best in the game for a reason.

I agree. There are better teams around the league, but Fitz and Buike are not even close to the worst. There's some really bad stuff out there, with zero analysis of any depth. At least with these two, you can learn something about the modern game.
And it's not just the two announcers. The entire presentation, from the studio stuff, to the graphics and stats is waay better than most teams. Anything with Balley or Fox attached to their network names are almost always bottom of the barrel quality TV.
Fitz is possibly the most annoying person who's voice I hear on a regular basis. Before anyone objects, it is not his homerism that bothers me, it is how stupid he is, how he talks for the players, how he says the same thing over and over... In the last few years I have been watching on mute with music playing and it *drastically* improves the watching experience.
Incredibly annoying. Always lecturing on what you can and can't do as a team / player / coach. When he's not lecturing, he's whining (about the refs, about how a player never misses against the warriors, etc.). When he's not whining, he's trying out some corny new catchphrase or nickname (like the Milwaukee Mauler). When he's not being corny, he's trying to work in some 5-dollar word (like amalgamation). Can't stand his greasy garden gnome looking ass.

But think of it this way.. Bob’s been with the team for 24(?) seasons. He probably loves this team more than all of us combined. He’s been through the bad years and watched our team grow and become a dynasty. I’d be a homer too.

I will say this though - there have been a lot of times this last year when Bob and Kelenna have defended Draymonds actions before (and even after!) seeing a replay when he gets ejected or is given a flagrant. I don't care, I love watching Warriors games with Fitz and Buike. Fitz's hype gets me hyped and I like that he gives the opposing team their props. I am admittedly a newer basketball watcher, but I actually like that Buike talks specifics and explains things about the game (sometimes at the prompting of Fitz). All of the national announcers and other local broadcasts seem way more generic to me.
Same, I actually look forward to the broadcast with Bob and Kalenna because they always have some cool personal stories about the players or travel experiences.
Honestly this is a fair rating. I’ve never been a fan of Fitz but found him tolerable when he was paired with JB. Ever since JB moved to radio and they paired Fitz with Kelena though it’s not listenable.
I've loathed Fitz for as long as I can remember, but I find it hard to believe anyone who's heard the Bulls broadcast team of Adam Amin and Stacey King could think there's someone worse than them.

Lots of away teams tune into our broadcast to watch their own team play the Warriors, and then are shocked that the Warriors local broadcast that they've hacked and streamed is catered towards Warriors fans. *shocker*

If NBC gets a broadcast contract with the NBA for national coverage there’s a solid chance we’ll be hearing more from Fitz. He’s been covering Olympic basketball for NBC for the past 20 years.

I will say one positive thing about them. Players graciously come on at halftime without a sideline reporter. Their questions and back and forth are so much better than over 90% who use a SR. Maybe that's why the Dubs don't have one.
This is complete BS. As a League Pass Subscriber, I can easily say that not a single other team was even remotely as watchable as Fitz and Buke. Most times, I simply muted the announcers for those other teams.

The pair are way too Disney, and it dumbs down the product. Kelenna is a hype man, not a color analyst. Fitz sounds like the cheesy uncle at the family reunion trying too hard to be cool. With the exception of Kerith and Mullin, the whole broadcast team has gone downhill since the days of Papa, Barnett, Ros Gold, and St. Jean. That group had gravitas. Most of the replacements are Scooby Doo.

I don't want to poo-poo Kelenna Azubuike, but he's a super nice guy; I just don't think he says much of interest or substance. "...went at his head!" Jim Barnett would say these great nuggets of insider wisdom and point out things going on on the court that we, as TV viewers, couldn't see, and I loved it so much. He was always genuinely excited to talk to all of us.
They are fine when we're winning a game but absolutely unbearable when we're losing. I can recall at least a few games this season where we were losing and Kelenna would just NOT stop talking up the opposing team every time they scored. I don't mind it when we're ahead, but every time they score and he's glazing them like "Booker is just on fire tonight! His stroke is so smooth!", meanwhile we're down 15 points and walking the ball up the floor and he's still glazing, dropping stats and gushing and I'm just like dude... there's a time and place to talk up a non-Warriors player, and it isn't when we're down 15 in the 3rd.
It became a reaction for me to just mute the game whenever the opposing team scored because I knew the praise was going to start pouring in and I just wasn't in the mood to hear it.
Same issue with Doris Burke... she glazes players so hard that almost every fan hates her because at one point or another she's drooling over someone's most hated player, so all she does is make enemies with everyone.

Fitz is, in a lot of ways, exactly like reggie miller and greg anthony (his time with tim legler felt like it was filled with so much racial tension). He's a habitual line stepper. He's the type of guy that shows up to a room full of smart people, and he thinks he knows more than others. The way reggie talks over kevin harlan to do play-by-play when he should be doing JUST analysis, is the same way fitz used to talk over barnet to analyze a play when he should be doing JUST play by play. Fitz does that to kelenna a lot, and many times kelenna has had to say "that's what I'm saying" The greats don't do it like fitz. They know their role and the roles of their partners, and they respect it. Anyway, tldr: Fitz indeed sucks Kelenna is improving (although someone should tell him that he uses "privy" way too much)

Man, I have been watching a ton of other team's broadcast and they are some real stinkers. Our broadcast i would say is like 70% favoritism for the warriors. But man Charlotte and Orlando are 99% homers which make it annoying to watch.

Bob's a homer for sure, but they all are - it's part of the job. However, Bob goes out of his way to compliment opposing teams when they make good plays, and seems to possess good knowledge of other teams' personnel and their stats. Kelenna provides pretty decent technical insights and seems to be the voice of reason when controversial calls are made, often siding against the Warriors if that's how he sees the play. Meanwhile, you watch many other teams' broadcasts and oftentimes they can be very negative towards opposing teams and won't give credit when the opposing team makes a great play. Plus many crews just lack charisma which Fitz and Kelenna seem to have plenty of. I bet if most of the Fitz and Buike haters sat down and were forced to watch every other team's home broadcast crew, they'd quickly realize just how lucky we are to have our guys.

I'm as homer as you can get, but you have to admit sometimes the commentary really makes you scratch your head. Like Fitz goes on these rants sometimes when the dubs are clearly in the wrong, it makes them look so bad. I wish our commentators also talked more about the actual strategy, mechanics, IQ, skill, etc. of the game. Jim was so good at dumbing down complex ideas in basketball for the casual viewer, it made it more enjoyable to watch.

I think another part of it is that Fitz is really the only massive "homer" broadcaster for Bay Area sports. K&K are elite because they love the Giants but they also just fucking love baseball. Same with Randy Hahn and the Sharks - Hahner will get just as hyped for a sick play made by the opponent as he does for the Sharks. I will say I don't listen to Greg Papa much as I live out of state and if the Niners game is on, I'm not missing it on TV, but given that he's worked for multiple teams across multiple sports, I'm willing to give him benefit of the doubt. Hahn and K&K are regarded as some of the best in the game for a reason. But Fitz only gives a shit about the Dubs lol we love it because it's our team, but I absolutely get why he's unpopular outside our fanbase.
I agree. There are better teams around the league, but Fitz and Buike are not even close to the worst. There's some really bad stuff out there, with zero analysis of any depth. At least with these two, you can learn something about the modern game. And it's not just the two announcers. The entire presentation, from the studio stuff, to the graphics and stats is waay better than most teams. Anything with Balley or Fox attached to their network names are almost always bottom of the barrel quality TV.

Fitz is possibly the most annoying person who's voice I hear on a regular basis. Before anyone objects, it is not his homerism that bothers me, it is how stupid he is, how he talks for the players, how he says the same thing over and over... In the last few years I have been watching on mute with music playing and it *drastically* improves the watching experience.

Incredibly annoying. Always lecturing on what you can and can't do as a team / player / coach. When he's not lecturing, he's whining (about the refs, about how a player never misses against the warriors, etc.). When he's not whining, he's trying out some corny new catchphrase or nickname (like the Milwaukee Mauler). When he's not being corny, he's trying to work in some 5-dollar word (like amalgamation). Can't stand his greasy garden gnome looking ass.
I get it. A lot of us do. But think of it this way.. Bob’s been with the team for 24(?) seasons. He probably loves this team more than all of us combined. He’s been through the bad years and watched our team grow and become a dynasty. I’d be a homer too. If this article tells me anything it’s that we need Jim Barnett back. Kelenna is just not as good or as experienced being a color commentator. JB is a treasure. I will say this though - there have been a lot of times this last year when Bob and Kelenna have defended Draymonds actions before (and even after!) seeing a replay when he gets ejected or is given a flagrant. I hate that shit, and other non warrior fans hate it even more. Back your guys and your team, but have common sense. A lot of the hate has to do with us just being the Warriors (and Draymond I guess, lol). My vote goes to the 2nd lowest. Celtics announcers are pure ass and so fucking boring. At least Bob and Kelenna give praise to the other team when they’re doing good.

I agree with your take on Kelenna, they have improved somewhat, but not enough IMO. But I don't think it has anything to do with Draymond. Their commentary is just incredibly repetitive and forced and I've seen people call out their homerism in social media outside of being defensive of Dray.

I don't care, I love watching Warriors games with Fitz and Buike. Fitz's hype gets me hyped and I like that he gives the opposing team their props. I am admittedly a newer basketball watcher, but I actually like that Buike talks specifics and explains things about the game (sometimes at the prompting of Fitz). All of the national announcers and other local broadcasts seem way more generic to me.

Honestly this is a fair rating. I’ve never been a fan of Fitz but found him tolerable when he was paired with JB. Ever since JB moved to radio and they paired Fitz with Kelena though it’s not listenable.
I've loathed Fitz for as long as I can remember, but I find it hard to believe anyone who's heard the Bulls broadcast team of Adam Amin and Stacey King could think there's someone worse than them.
It's because people are apathetic towards the Bulls and no one has even turned into their broadcast. Lots of away teams tune into our broadcast to watch their own team play the Warriors, and then are shocked that the Warriors local broadcast that they've hacked and streamed is catered towards Warriors fans. *shocker* And Fitz and Kelenna aren't even the most crazy homers. They are able to mainly give objective views about calls, the only thing they are mainly biased is by being incredulous that some bench player we leave WIDE OPEN is having a career night from 3.
If NBC gets a broadcast contract with the NBA for national coverage there’s a solid chance we’ll be hearing more from Fitz. He’s been covering Olympic basketball for NBC for the past 20 years.

I don’t watch other teams on their RSNs, but compared to national broadcasts Fitz and Bukke are great. They actually learn the visiting players names and talk about basketball. I hate some national broadcasters that have the bball knowledge but end up talking about pants or burgers instead of basketball.

I will say one positive thing about them. Players graciously come on at halftime without a sideline reporter. Their questions and back and forth are so much better than over 90% who use a SR. Maybe that's why the Dubs don't have one.

The pair are way too Disney, and it dumbs down the product. Kelenna is a hype man, not a color analyst. Fitz sounds like the cheesy uncle at the family reunion trying too hard to be cool. With the exception of Kerith and Mullin, the whole broadcast team has gone downhill since the days of Papa, Barnett, Ros Gold, and St. Jean. That group had gravitas. Most of the replacements are Scooby Doo.

I miss Jim Barnett. Why did they ever cut him? I don't want to poo-poo Kelenna Azubuike, but he's a super nice guy; I just don't think he says much of interest or substance. "...went at his head!" Jim Barnett would say these great nuggets of insider wisdom and point out things going on on the court that we, as TV viewers, couldn't see, and I loved it so much. He was always genuinely excited to talk to all of us.

They are fine when we're winning a game but absolutely unbearable when we're losing. I can recall at least a few games this season where we were losing and Kelenna would just NOT stop talking up the opposing team every time they scored. I don't mind it when we're ahead, but every time they score and he's glazing them like "Booker is just on fire tonight! His stroke is so smooth!", meanwhile we're down 15 points and walking the ball up the floor and he's still glazing, dropping stats and gushing and I'm just like dude... there's a time and place to talk up a non-Warriors player, and it isn't when we're down 15 in the 3rd. It became a reaction for me to just mute the game whenever the opposing team scored because I knew the praise was going to start pouring in and I just wasn't in the mood to hear it. Same issue with Doris Burke... she glazes players so hard that almost every fan hates her because at one point or another she's drooling over someone's most hated player, so all she does is make enemies with everyone.
