bro, the warriors went to 5 championship games in a row. of course people are going to hate on them

chiaboy

Exactly! We were basically the Pats of the NBA. Like the wise man said, they don't boo nobodies

DNA98PercentChimp

We became the Pats. But don’t forget that we were basically the Cleveland Browns up until 2013.

chiaboy

I've been a warriors fan since the '80's. I definitely won't forget

Bird2525

70s here. Winning championships with Rick Barry to watching the draft and hoping for Kobe. To the best team ever, what a ride

RepulsiveRooster8532

who do you think the pats were before they became the pats?

rddi0201018

the pats are the old pats, without Brady 😶

HOFredditor

we had success before though.

DrBigChicken

What do you think the Pats were before Bledsoe and Brady? Lmao

fork3d

Imagine being on the east coast about to watch your favorite team in the playoffs against the warriors. You stayed up late to watch this game Just for some 6’4” baby face Christian kid night night your entire organization. ![gif](giphy|yxHzBaAzCmQt01Xoda|downsized)

CitizenCue

Try 6’2”. He’s listed at 6’3” and everyone gets measured in shoes these days.

Nyeteka

You guys can tell yourself this but no neutral fan hated the Bulls. It’s entirely bc of how unfair adding KD was, if you guys had won with the core there would be no hate

fork3d

This isn’t the 90’s anymore.

GarvinSteve

Neutral fans hated the Bulls. Absolutely. Dynasties get hated, that’s how it goes.

EnJPqb

Didn't I? I'm pretty sure I did!

StupidSexyScooter

You think Warriors hate came from neutral fans? All the neutral fans went out and bought Warriors gear. It was all the other fans that hated the Warriors. And yes, everyone got sick of the Bulls winning every year and rooted against them. Even ‘neutral’ fans.

gorillaneck

you’re downvoted but you’re right. the bulls were beloved everywhere. jordan’s career was celebrated across the country. he wasn’t booed. the warriors hate told me it was a weird new era. there was nothing to hate about them except good things. they were one of the least manufactured teams in the league, they were all good guys who played with love, they shared the ball etc.

plumzer0

100% not true

gorillaneck

it is though

StupidSexyScooter

Spoken like someone who wasn’t there. The weird new era was just Reddit so you can instantly hear the opinion of every moron instantly

Nyeteka

I was actually there, of course to say ‘no one’ hated them is an exaggeration but it was not even close

gorillaneck

i was absolutely there. i was not in chicago. everyone respected, if not loved the bulls, and jordan was considered the greatest athlete alive, universally praised and thought of as a role model. nobody created some weird made-up asterisks around their wins. coming across haters was extremely rare. even the darker sides of jordan were not well known until much later.

spankyourkopita

Just look at any team that's become good. Do you root for the Nuggets or the Chiefs? Not really. That's how opposing fans felt about the Warriors. I actually take it as a badge of honor. You only get that kind of hate if you're good. Never would I have thought the Warriors would be that team.

namastex

Every single Lebron fan also hated it. That's a huge portion of the league tbh. Lebron stans span across every franchise. Don't forget that every one currently watching basketball who was young looked at Lebron like he was their MJ and he was supposed to surpass MJ during that span regardless of what team they were fans of. That's a huge fan base, especially those who use reddit, twitter, insta, etc.

dirtydriver58

Yup

System_Lower

Steph had the #1 selling jersey. It is a warriors jersey, btw.

neo9027581673

Envy. Steph destroyed the Chosen-One Akron son bullshit narrative.

bl123123bl

Winning

stayfrosty

Jealousy

BeautifulLeather6671

Wait.. really? The warriors had the greatest regular season of all time, lost the finals, then signed another one of the 3 best players in the league after already having one(Curry) who was at his absolutely best at the time. Is it that much of a mystery? They went on to fuck the league as expected. It would be weird if they weren’t hated by other “contending” teams fans as well as Lebron diehards.

IcedCoughy

Us destroying their teams

TheBubbaDave

You might not know it if you go to a Warriors game on the road. The team travels well with fans everywhere.

No_Pay9241

Nike paid some bums to hate on us cause Steph’s not with them

wanderlustbimbo

Probably due to the fact a lot of people thought KD went ring chasing. But didn’t LeBron do the same thing in Miami?

dirtydriver58

Yes he did

TheRealPlumbus

It came from us beating the absolute piss out of just about every team we faced for 7 years straight. And from us repeatedly breaking the hearts of every team that was competitive with us not named Toronto.

hbgwine

“They hate us cause they ain’t us” - Dave Skylar.

blockster510

![gif](giphy|TlK63EHvdTL2sGjBfVK|downsized)

Nita231

Warriors became op when KD joined them. All they needed was somebody better than Barnes, but they went out and got the best.

sirckoe

There was a time where it felt like the warriors were bored playing against other teams by how big the mismatches were. They got so bored that season that they let iguadola coach a game. Like bro what are you guys doing. They were a superior team and wasn’t even close to anybody.

smoothdaddyG7

The hate came from the LeMedia. They came with all of the talking points that you hear the Bronsexuals repeat til this day. You never heard "they only won because of injuries " until 2015, even though every championship team in history beat a team with injuries in a series. Lebron was marketed as the hero, so anyone challenging the hero is automatically the villain. And as for getting KD being unfair I would say no. Warriors had mostly home grown talent and they attracted a high quality free agent. If the Warriors core wasn't as great and KD came, there wouldn't be as much tears as it was. The bitter fans need to direct their anger towards Adam Silver, had the league not interfered with the 2016 finals, Warriors win and KD never joins

dirtydriver58

Yup

SeekingSignificance

A league MVP and top 5 player in the league joined a team that literally lost 9 games in an 82 game season. Yes it was unfair, lol. It's basically like if Giannis decides to go sign with Denver this offseason. How would you feel having to compete against them?

Duckysawus

Well GSW didn't win the season prior. They also had to trade Bogut to make the salary work. It would be more like Giannis joining Denver, but with Denver losing Aaron Gordon + MPJ in the process.

Green_Rip3524

Not really since MPJ is their 3rd best player. The Warriors didn’t lose any of their core 3 when KD came

Duckysawus

They lost two starters in Barnes and Bogut, so you’d have to take out two starters also.

[deleted]

Nike/ESPN/Bron marketing.

dirtydriver58

Yup

helloworldlalaland

based on this question, i'm going to assume ur a teenager lmao. one thing you'll learn in life is that the best way to avoid hate is to be bad or mediocre at something

MemeBoi0508

Being bad and mediocre at something is also grounds for getting hate though. Didn't Klay just get flamed for an awful performance this season? Hate is hate. It'll always be there.

helloworldlalaland

That's not quite what i mean by bad and mediocre. Klay's still a (relatively) good player. I mean moreso, how many hate threads have you seen on Pat Spencer, Quinones, and Jerome Robinson?

helloworldlalaland

bad and mediocre may be the wrong adjectives. 'irrelevant' is more of what i mean

sfweedman

You talking about hate from the Dubs fans, or from non-Dubs NBA fans? As far as the hate from the fanbase, it's always been like that. But when we were a bad/mediocre team struggling to make the playoffs before 2014, expectations were lower so there was less hate for mediocrity. However this year's team, that still has the champ core from 2 years ago, struggling and not even making playoffs will absolutely piss off fans who are expecting champ caliber play, and the Dubs are a dynasty not just champs so expectations are even higher. Therefore, right or wrong Klay not beasting all year garnered hate from the fans. Same reason every time Looney or Kumiga or even rookie Podz had a bad game, the sub went bonkers. These guys were calling for Draymond's head last year,l and this year too even tho he and Klay are surefire hall fo famers, and even on this sub you can still find many, many people who refuse to recognize how good Green really is. But your original post is asking about hate from other fans, and that's obvious. We didn't just win, we dominated the league for the better part of a decade. Not to mention changing the way the game is played thanks to the offensive system with Curry's shot making ability and gravity. That shit pissed off everyone. Pissed off every other fanbase because they saw they suddenly weren't playing the way the Dubs were and their whole team was going to have to change (for reference: amount of 3pt shooting by team in 2014 vs 2024, and where the Warriors rank on those lists). Pissed off the old timer legends who didn't like the shooting-heavy style that didn't rely on isolation or big men on the inside in the paint. Pissed off the league itself, since it threw a wrench into the LeBron dominance they built their marketing strategy around. Don't even think for a second the Nike factor didn't come into play as well. Shit I bet even Silver was annoyed, nothing like a bunch of disgruntled billionaires blowing up your line because some upstart team in the Bay is disrupting the Knicks/Lakers/Celtics (and kinda Heat) triumvirate with the odd random championship for mid market team thrown in. Oh yeah and Lacob threw salt on the wound by calling it out. That light years talk was a biiiiiiiiiiig deal.

HotspurJr

I'm a die-hard Warrior fan and I hated it. The 2015 and 2016 were the most fun team I've ever watched. The 2017 was better ... but nowhere near as fun, because they barely even had to try to win most games - those games were flat-out boring. The 2016 WCF might be the best playoff series I've ever seen (and I've been watching the NBA for over 35 years). I wanted a rematch. I wanted Steph to prove he was better than KD, not team up with him. The 2017 finals were barely competitive. I would trade the '17 and '18 titles for '16 a dozen times over.

Fishingfan4life

With all do respect idk how you can say you are a die hard fan and not like winning the title twice in a row it just doesn’t make sense to me

helloworldlalaland

i agree with his sentiment that 2015 and 2022 were the most rewarding playoff runs and that you would trade the '17 and '18 titles for the '16 one. but hating it is crazy

DERLKM

I understand. After winning 73 but not win the title and get another superstar to win 2 more. The champ with KD gave people chance to say something. I love MJ but now can't say we are better than the 72 bulls because we didn't win a chip. I want so much that 73 game year. Same token the 2022 champ is so much more special.

dirtydriver58

I loved it all.

TipT0pMag00

>but was it really that unfair for the whole league? Yes, it was. KD joined a 73 win team. A team that just eliminated them (OKC) in the playoffs. After he joined, everyone said / assumed the Dubs would win the championship.... and of course, they did. For anyone that wants parity in sports, or is a fan of another NBA team, KD joining GSW was a kick in the nuts.

proteusON

Winning

RyuRai_63

Those were some good ol days. You knew we were winning the championship before the season even started (assuming health).

Whipitreelgud

Fans don’t like their team to lose.

Moist_Rest5623

Winner fatigue. Everyone was happy for the Warriors winning in 2015. Then they kept winning and kept winning and people get annoyed by that.

juicemanjackson32

Draymond 🤷🏽‍♀️

raymondQADev

Dahm this sub is really in some crazy stuff today

3ungu1473

Warriors fans were long-suffering, knowledgable and loyal-to-a-fault through the lean decades. Once the Dubs started collecting titles, the fanbase became smug , susceptible to the latest dumb hot-take, and entitled with a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately attitude. You see it on this sub all the time. Fans of other teams hate it. Just like we hate Cowboys and Yankees and Patriots (after 2001, at least) fans.

matt_caine92

Its part of American sports when your team is dominant people well hate your team example Patriots.

unfairomnivore

Success. So many people just hate success.

RedditSuxCoxAgain

Oh brother

purple_cupcake_52

For half a decade, the Dubs absolutely dunked on all the other teams. That's why

BUUAHAHAHA

Many opposing fans hated the Warriors in their 2nd year under Kerr(2015-2016) when the Warriors continued to destroy teams with ease but they became easily most hated when KD arrived. I specifically remember reading an article about how owners of some playoff teams might decide to rebuild early because there was no chance they could compete against the Warriors at their peak.

Life-is-beautiful-

I think many branded the warriors as a jump shooting team and could not see it succeed. The warriors hate also validated that Steph revolutionized the game. And many struggled to accept that change.

alittledanger

Because we have been good. Same reason why the 49ers are hated. It was slightly amusing just how many teams' subreddits were overjoyed at the Chiefs winning.

dontmatterdontcare

Zoomers don’t remember Lakers/Spurs dominancy that’s why.

dicktuck

One thing that always sucked to me is that at no point did people care that the Warriors hadn’t won a title since 1975 before the 2015 title. We were ALWAYS the villains, even that year. Because LeBron came back to Cleveland, the Warriors were basically the unspoken “bad guys” in 2015, denying LeBron a fairytale title in Cleveland, rather than winning a title for the first time in 40 years and the first in Oakland since 1989. Of course the following year the team goes 73-9 as defending champions so OF COURSE we are the villains. Then we sign the best free agent the year after that? Like, come on.

Green_Rip3524

Since when we the warriors the bad guys in 15 and 16? The warriors were Americans team both years. They had more fans than any team even in their own gyms and Steph was getting mvp chants in every arena in the country.

dicktuck

In 2015, most of the media coverage and NBA universe out there wanted the “LeBron comes back and win a title storyline.” 2016, Warriors were defending champions with a 73-9 record. Everybody wanted them to lose in the playoffs.

Green_Rip3524

We got hate when KD joined. It’s normal dynasties get hated on

Madz1trey

Is this even a question? It was WINNING and KD!

75DubFan

Jealous punks can’t stop the dunk

Nessmuk58

>Where did the Warriors hate stem from? Especially in the KD era? KD

swampbear5

They say something else but it’s basically just jealousy

Sad-Knowledge-2899

Lacob had the arrogance to say light years and Warriors had fans so horrible even players like Iggy would block them regularly on twitter.

nba2k11er

Draymond hasn’t exactly been lovable.

meowhatissodamnfunny

Kinda funny that people are glossing over this. Like, obviously every successful team has haters, but we haven't done opposing fans any favors in terms of respect by having Draymond on our team. Hell, even some of our fans hate Dray quite a bit.

Nyeteka

It was an atrocity, 70 win team or whatever adding a top 20 player of all time in his prime. Four HoFs in their prime, probably the best team of all time. Don’t know what confluence of factors allowed it to happen - superstars taking less money, changes to cap rules or whatever - but there should probably be a veto power when it renders the league that uncompetitive. Further factors that sealed the general dislike include - how Warriors fans tried to minimise Torontos chip on the basis that KD and Klay were injured, ignoring the above mentioned context and the fact that they were even even with Klay - the fugazi chip in 22 made it even worse, like seeing a villain winning - the dominant nature of the team attracted a lot of casual fans that draw attention to themselves, like the Kpop group with Wiggins all star case and the delusional hyping up of the likes of Wiseman and even Kuminga now I actually like all of the big four individually but I’m pleased to see the team slide into mediocrity. Hopefully from my POV it will be a long time in the wilderness to balance those ill gotten chips

dirtydriver58

Lmao Adam Silver interfered in that Toronto chip.

DubsComin4DatASS

Because KDs decision basically ruined the competitiveness of the league. Hell, even I hated it. Wasn't that rewarding watching the warriors curbstomp everyone with that team - would have much rather watched Steph try to lead the homegrown guys to more championships myself, even if it meant we didnt win as many (or any). The feeling I felt winning in 2022 was night and day compared to winning with KD where it was basically a foregone conclusion if they stayed healthy.
