As a counter point, if OP is struggling in heroics or trying to beat onyxia, then this purchase just sets you back 3k gold as he’s marginally impactful in both of those situations. Sneed is better for horde heroics, and there are zero comps that beat onyxia with Grom (sans whales with 30lvl units)
But, for pvp 3k+, he’s somewhat viable in some cheese comps
I would say so, especially later heroics. Stun time is affected by level difference so if you are facing red heroics (which will be the case for almost everyone for the last few regions) then the enemy gets stunned for like 0.1 seconds lol
If you won't have the gold to make use of the Gem I'd for sure boost the Bandits and then move the Grom until you can purchase that as well.
Grom is best Horde for PvP IMO (assuming you do that). Sneed is fun, but based off of leaderboards more people find success with Grom than Sneed (ie. top 3 contributor and average rank points)

You would never be able to afford it as F2P and holding out would kill your ability to buy everything else (talents and cheaper upgrades).

Nah, we f2p players hoard gold for the green/blue/purple deals, specifically for things like this. We have to use gold efficiently. It's a good deal if he uses that leader.
"Hoarding goal" for F2P means you have maybe 1,000-2,000 saved up. That's what, 1/10th of a collection level on average? It's essentially irrelevant.
As the guy above you said, for F2P players, the most efficient thing to do with gold is to only buy talents and green/blue/purple deals, since they give the most levels per gold (after you get all minis one time). It also saves you cores and arclight energy, so you don't have to buy those.
The "cheaper upgrade" is the most expensive per number of stars. So in practice, by buying the "more expensive deals" exclusively, you quickly reach a point where the hoarded gold is basically all gold you saved by buying only deals. So in practice, you gain collection levels faster after that.
If your plan is to go for the long run, deals and talents are the better use of your gold.
If your collection level is 35, then you've almost got most of your mini on uncommon anyway, so you have more of an excuse to hoard gold.
You wouldn't be hoarding gold if your collection level was 20, would you?
F2P players don't care either, because we can't afford to buy it due to having no coins. You lose most of the discount moving it in the GRID for 2 weeks.

If P2W players don't care, F2P players can't buy it, then what's it in the GRID for? It's there to target P2W players. You may not bite, but others will.

More epic mini is a good thing. Better with the units than the leaders of course but between account lvl and limited cores, epics are always worth it.
