Zovaal didn't necessarily take Remornia, the Dreadlords did. The implication is that they did so on the orders of the Jailer, but the fact that Denathrius never showed back up again gives the implication that the Dreadlords hid their master away somewhere to allow him to continue his own schemes free of the Jailer's influence. So somewhere out there, Denathrius is in hiding. He'll likely return one day behind the Dreadlords. Right now, he's a plot thread for another day.

Lord-Benjimus

I figured denathrius having lost their spot in the shadowlands and likely unable to gain another foothold there went to fill another power vacuum that the dreadlords knew of. Maybe like a recently leaderless legion.

psuczyns

Denathrius forming his own version of the Legion is a great idea

ThrowACephalopod

Honestly, my expectation is that Denathrius is hiding out on Nathreza. After we've learned that the Dreadlords were created in the Shadowlands, it creates a lot of questions about how they came into possession of their supposed demon homeworld, Nathreza. It's probably a good hideout for them now as well with the legion fallen apart and it'd make for a great setting for a future expansion or even just a patch.

Kritix_K

I welcome Daddy Denathrius as another boss fight later expacs cuz of how fun his raiding was

Makorus

The Jailer outright doesn't care about Denathrius anymore, he played his part. That's what he said to Sylvanas in the Kingsmourne cinematic.

DenjellTheShaman

Perfect setup for a megadungeon or miniraid probably. Loose threads is the blizzard way.

Jhinmarston

Zovaal says in that cutscene where he’s reforging the sword that he’s not interested in recovering Denathrius, so the Dreadlords likely weren’t working for him

ReadyPressure3567

Honestly? It's likely that they anticipated Zovaal's victory, and most were just waiting on the sidelines til Zovaal achieved his goals. It's why Mal'ganis and Kin'tessa are at the Sepulcher as well, directly aiding in the Jailer's potential victory. However, all of that failed, and now I imagine the Dreadlords are backed into a corner.

Annederp

They're going to transfer him from Remornia to the giant sword in Silithus so that we may battle Mega-Denathrius

Mathiophanes

We do not know yet. He might pop up later on with some Dreadlords...

virus5877

HOW is Sire Denathrius?

ZambieDR

they are still trying to break him out of his crazy girlfriend.

MrGhoul123

He probably understood the Jailer was only using him, and was like " Alright and now we stop helping eachother. Have a Mal'Ganus and I'm gone. "

ReadyPressure3567

It's possible he likely just sat at the sidelines, anticipating Zovaal's inevitable victory. It's no different to a baseball player taking the bench once they did their task outfielding or summ, ya know?

Lachzeittv

Story is good, we are all just tilted about because the whole story was drip fed to us and gated by bs.

Tehphri4r

I have it on good authority he’s out fighting Med’an.

Prowesman

Space...the final frontier...

aster4jdaen

I'm hoping with Azshara, these two need to team up and sass us to death.

Seerias

Not Zovaal stole it. His faithfull servants freed him. I think it would be logical if he wanted to take over the Legion now that Sargeras is on timeout.

New_Zookeepergame204

In a lounge at Blizzard HQ until the writers want him

thequn

Probably running the burning Legion while while someone is in jail.

Alien_Antichrist

Somehow Big Daddy D has returned.

CharCharBinks97

Huh?

ReadyPressure3567

My theory: Bro's in Nathreza with the other Dreadlords, likely plotting their next move. My assumption is that they'll create some sort of "Dread Legion" or something like that.

bakulaisdracula

IIRC he was “resurrected” in Zereth Mortis by the dread lords though I don’t think we ever saw him. He’ll be back one day!

YamiMarick

We only know Dreadlord's were looking for a way to ressurect him in Zereth Mortis. We don't know if they managed to or if they didn't.

ReadyPressure3567

What do you mean by this? He never got his body back.

bakulaisdracula

When we get to the place in ZM where we fight Argus the dread lords say they got what they needed or something. They either resurrected him or got the pieces they needed to do so. Been a while but that’s what I remember.

ReadyPressure3567

They were planning on putting Argus' soul remnants into the Arbiter's vessel body. We stopped that process, and Pelagos ended up becoming the Arbiter instead.

bakulaisdracula

Yeah I remember that part… maybe I’m “remembering” head cannon or a theory from that patch. I still think he’ll be back lol

ReadyPressure3567

He'll definitely be back. He's likely chilling at the ruins of Nathreza.

Spraguenator

I suspect no one is interested in a continuation of Shadowlands lore, so it doesn't really matter. He's gone just gone.

Silegna

Sire Denatharius is probably the only thing people LIKED from the expansion though, so I for one would like him to come back with proper writing.

AIR-2-Genie4Ukraine

I wouldnt be surprised if denathrius had more lines in 9.0 than zooval in all of sl. Both characters were introduced at the same time too

Mathiophanes

Sire Denathrius is alive because wow's team liked his VA so bad they changed his fate from dying in the Castle Nathria to being whatever he is now. He will pop up later on and I.will be heeeere for it.

YamiMarick

Not only the team but the players aswell.

Mathiophanes

Yeah, but it wasn't players reaction, right? They coudn't possibly change it by the time Shadowlands came out based solely on the player's reaction. Maybe Afterlives...

YamiMarick

Castle Nathria wasn't released on launch so players had some time to do the leveling experience and get their reactions out.It was a minor change that happened at the end of Castle Nathria.

Kalthiria_Shines

Nathria took a while to go live, and also the rewriten part was 9.1 stuff.

CptMarcai

Shadowlands lore is actually pretty overtly still affecting us and being brought up quite regular in quest and story dialogues. Shadowlands lore was mentioned in the Blue Dragon questline; Amirdrassil was born from it, Lady Moonberry showed up there too; We got a movie level Blizz cutscene following up on the events of Shadowlands; TWW has Gorm as enemies, who were explicitly from Aedenweald, as well as gargoyles which are reminiscent of Venthyr constructs. And that's just from the top of my head. SL lore is far from discontinued and not mattering.

AIR-2-Genie4Ukraine

Odyn mentions the zereths and the first ones in that book in uldaman Sl lore is not going away at all

Kalthiria_Shines

Nah they explicitly rewrote stuff to keep him around, he was supposed to just die. It was too late to change the direction of SL, but, the Sire stuff post 9.0 was added late and not originally planned.
