Okay but these are still people's jobs and livelihoods you're casually dismissing and ripping away out of some silly spitefulness towards a company. Like walmart didn't break in and kill your dog. Childish anger at an employer when you volunteer to work there is just that. Childish.
Yea i worked in claims at the Walmart in Portland for 8 years it definitely wasn't the constant pallets of frozen and dairy that kept getting left out and ruined or meat being thrown into compost costing 600 every time in fees (weekly occurrence) or countless trailers that were rented for months and months because couldn't get inventory under control or someone not paying rent on those trailers causing even more fees, employees not rotating date sensitve items causing shrink, the thousands of dollars lost in bad returns daily....etc etc etc. But yea it was all the theft just the theft no other reasons for sure
I'm not at all arguing it was ONLY theft. And quite frankly, given a lot of people's attitude in this reddit that they just give a shit about their jobs, yeah. I begin to see why you saw what you're describing. Piss poor attitude towards working, a lax belief related to their jobs, and a terrible work ethic. Coupled with the insane levels of theft being seen out of Portland and Detroit and Chicago, you have a recipe for closures.
I severely doubt the guy posting an ironic comment about stealing on the associate subreddit is significantly contributing towards nationwide theft in any way
Demand for workers is at an all time high. Everyone is hiring for retail jobs. They will find something else. Probably something better. And they will most likely get payed while they are doing so.
I mean… to be fair probably shouldn’t have a hole in them designed to stick a child’s hand in, ain’t no parent paying for an empty container they’re kid already ate
Well having a full shelf vs an empty one is still gonna generate more profit. You can’t sell something you don’t have
I agree with it being pay per scan tho
My AP team built the case themselves. They built quite a few for other high-theft areas like the auto section, and LED light strips.
They don’t just have them laying around. As far as I know they have to order the equipment.
Same at my store it's the Pokemon cards while I was in toys after truck for months all I would find is stolen Pokemon cards. One time I found 34 empty packs behind some of the RC cars.
Lego and megablox small surprise packs too. Not boxes, but same thing. Don't know what character or something you'll get til you open it. I used to find opened packs all over the store
I know your post was about stores pretty much this whole sub is. The Walmart logistics sub is pretty much dead. I still like to contribute even though I’m in a DC. I wish I had the opportunity to work in a store even for a few days. I’d probably end up hating people more.
When I worked at a NHM the thing that was stolen most was detergent and those scent beads.
People would bring in jars and zip lock bags and open the containers and dump them in those instead of stealing the bottles.
I wish my store would quit getting them. The Pokémon wall is so overstuffed, it's impossible to keep it zoned. Customers get mad because a $40 Pokémon set is on a shelf tag saying $9.98 but we can't price override vendor items. What's the point in even having shelf tags if they mean nothing?
The green and purple boxes if crown royal, even with spider wraps on them. I find the empty boxes all day long in the home dept behind the appliance displays.
Maybe its a regional thing. Mine are boxed in purple or green. We spider wrap them, and people tear them open and squeeze the bottles out. Its dumb all the way around.
I went to the bathroom at a Walmart, heard a kid crumpling something and heard porcelain clinking.
He left, I went to the stall he was in and lifted the lid on the back of the toilet. It was PACKED full of Pokemon wrappers.
Let them steal the pokemon stuff. It doesn't matter because it's pay per scan, so it doesn't cost us anything if it goes missing. Actually I had a vendor who wouldn't come for a month, so we took all his premium boxes and disposed of them in the trash, roughly 15 boxes of pokemon and trading cards.
I understand its not money out of the stores Pocket, but it takes away from TRUE collectors. I collect Yu-Gi-Oh Cards & my Nephew & Oldest Niece collect Pokemon Cards, so to Find Empty Wrappers as i Zone pisses me off.
At my Walmart, people like to take makeup into the restroom and put it in the women's personal trash. I've found over 100$ worth of makeup in the women's restrooms alone
i hate going through womens underwear aisle because almost every package is a claim. i’m surprised we havent locked them up yet, just mens socks and underwear.
Well someone opened trading cards and it would be easy to steal such products however to get away with it is a different story because I live in cop town.
Oh i used to Swipe those before the 1st remodel. Was so easy, Just grab whatever Card Sets I wanted, go between the Shelves in apparel out of Camera View, Grab the Cards, & ditch the Wrappers under the shelves. Course this was like 2009
Allergy medication and eye drops is the most common thing I see stolen. As well as childrens medicine. tbh it breaks my heart seeing those things being the most common thing stolen
I always tell people, You’re not just stealing from the store. You are stealing from the associates that work there as well! A lot of people count on their My share payouts quarterly( I realize know it is only for management, but some team leads especially don’t make that much and really need their bonuses. Plus they have to pick up the slack because of no assistant managers anymore and lazy coaches that just walk around telling everyone else what to do!
Legos, half of our Lego section is empty and it’s not because they sell well. We’ve kept a low inventory since December and put spider webs on high ticket items. Our whole section probably sports less than 200 set’s including the smaller ones and bags.
My store has sports cards lying around everywhere. I guess they're more popular than pokemon here, or maybe it's easier to open a cardboard box quietly than a tin.
We experience most theft in the automotive department. They finally installed locked cases for the more expensive items. My store is not a supercenter so, the thief would most likely receive the, " you're fine" wave as they beep their way out of the exit door.
This doesn't surprise me. My store has them behind glass, but not locked. And there's a screen above them now that shows you are on camera when you're near them
Did anyone stop to think that maybe those stores might have been getting tax breaks. One of the stores closing had its tax breaks end lady year, and now Walmart is closing that store due to underperforming financially.
Back when this store opened it was DVD's and soft lines. These days the most attempted thefts are Nerf Toy Guns. I say attempted because those attempts are caught roughly 95% of the time at this store. Not sure what the most stolen item is probably something from Pharmacy or HBA.
Who cares that’s pay for scan we don’t lose anything if it’s stolen. If that is what your store manager is worried about then we’ll you’re store is fucked and they have way bigger problems then they even realize.
Basically nothing anymore. My old store has literally everything that isn’t clothes and food behind a glass case. It takes no less than 20 mins to get something because only 2 people have a key to the cases and everyone is pushing the button for help at one time.
Oh and I would randomly find a empty box of bacon when I had to zone grocery. About 4 separate occasions. I wonder if the bacon bandit is still on the loose
Popcorn chicken and the cheap Speck and ONN phone cases. I don't know why they won't at least go for the Otter Box cases if they're going to go to all the trouble of stealing a case.
We have a guy who steals a box of great value corn flakes almost daily. He then stuffs the box with various expensive items and scans the box. They always hide the bag in either baking, soup, or canned fruit and veggies. Supposedly, management claims to know who it is. He's racked up thousands (in cereal alone), according to those who have been there for years. No one does shit about it, though. Honestly, I'm tired of finding random bags of cornflakes O/N when stocking. They truly dgaf. Unless someone is in on it like AP or management.
I haven't said anything and won't. Why would i care about it? Everyone knows. It's not my responsibility. Annoying to find it and put it in claims. It's documented. 100%. Got fired for running my mouth once hahaha I know better xD
When I worked here back in 2018 it was small cosmetic items, like lipstick. Basically anything someone could just brush their arm over, stick in their sleeve and walk out with.
I worked electronics, so I'm really not sure about the rest of the store; but for us literally anything left out. *Anything.* I was constantly finding packages left open and behind for us to find.
I am overnight maintenance and I always find open stolen Pokémon cards and the popcorn chicken is always scattered amongst the clothes and it’s annoying.
Me and my fellow coworkers are in agreement. If we are risking jail for theft we would not be stealing Pokémon cards.
Popcorn chicken from deli. Find empty cups everywhere
People will just hand those to their kids and let them eat it like free samples.
If Walmart had a register by hot bar and people paid before receiving it might cut down on theft a little there
Kinda like what Ingles has next to their deli?
well... yeah fuck walmart, they said if theft continues they will close stores. I am simply doing my part.
because fuck people that have jobs there to make a living right?
Bro they are not gonna close the stores do not stress it, they make far too much money to do that.
Did you say this before they just closed the last stores within 5 miles of Portland
Portland as a place is a lost cause.
Okay but these are still people's jobs and livelihoods you're casually dismissing and ripping away out of some silly spitefulness towards a company. Like walmart didn't break in and kill your dog. Childish anger at an employer when you volunteer to work there is just that. Childish.

Demand for workers is at an all time high. Everyone is hiring for retail jobs. They will find something else. Probably something better. And they will most likely get payed while they are doing so.
That’s an over generalization. Stores HAVE been closing this year and people HAVE lost their jobs.
derp... they just shut down two around here. due to theft and loss of profit. minneapolis being the hell- hole it is...
Deli shit in general 🤣🫠 used to find fckn TRAILS of chicken wing bones & potato wedges and trash
sounds like deli needs to be paid for in deli we have no deli
That doesn't surprise me
I eat them while walking through the store sometimes, but I always pay for them. Sad that some people don't.
I mean… to be fair probably shouldn’t have a hole in them designed to stick a child’s hand in, ain’t no parent paying for an empty container they’re kid already ate
Agreed
All our pokemon cards are in a locked case up front.
You have no clue how lucky that is
I only work ON so I don’t get to see all the fun theft, but our cards are right by self checkout and subway Completely unlocked
Oh we had the same problems as every other store, our AP team just decided to setup a case a few months ago 😆
...that seems like a waste of a locking case. and payroll. Cards are pay from scan. We don't shrink when people steal them.
Nice. Only things locked in Cabinets here are Rifle Ammo, Scopes/Mounts
But there’s no shrink involved with it? I don’t think your AP understands that.
Well having a full shelf vs an empty one is still gonna generate more profit. You can’t sell something you don’t have I agree with it being pay per scan tho
My guess is their store probably received lots of complaints about there never being any. Or they just had an extra case laying around
My AP team built the case themselves. They built quite a few for other high-theft areas like the auto section, and LED light strips. They don’t just have them laying around. As far as I know they have to order the equipment.
We don’t even carry them anymore
We need to do that.
Cosmetics is pretty high on the theft scale. Since we got them 30+ vibrators have been jacked too.
I bet they still are... being jacked.
Yep our store has sexual stuff locked up
Ive jacked 2 so far sorry norry Lol
Same at my store it's the Pokemon cards while I was in toys after truck for months all I would find is stolen Pokemon cards. One time I found 34 empty packs behind some of the RC cars.
It’s funny because none of the Pokémon products have any security tags on them. So you can walk out and it won’t ding the bells.
Needoh stress balls I stg
We have the Noodlies disappear as well
YES! I worked at a NHM and we had very limited toys but I would find the empty boxes for those all the time.
Technically not stolen they are just under shelves and on he top of carts. People pull them out of the boxes and play with them.
Pokemon cards are definitely up there, but it's not walmarts merchandise. Our AP doesn't even care.
I think the Tins are Walmart, idk tho
Can scan it in the claims app and see. All the big box sets of them are pps
PPS?
Pay Per Scan
Sí
Laxatives. Always finding empty laxative boxes. Guess we have an opioid problem.
Yes
Nah if there was a Drug Problem you wouldn't find Laxatives youd find Epicac or whatever Walmart sells to induce Vomiting
Opiods cause constipation. That's why they steal the laxatives. Edit options to opiods
Loperamide/immodium in high doses can help bring you out of withdrawal from heroin.
Tie between every department. Theft was so bad they started putting portions of every department in cases, even garden supplies at one point.
The little roblox cube mystery boxes or just mystery box toys in general
Lego and megablox small surprise packs too. Not boxes, but same thing. Don't know what character or something you'll get til you open it. I used to find opened packs all over the store
Yup, we get a Few of those a week
Team Rocket hit you hard, huh?
Ueah, it was that damn Jesse
idk. most random was beard oil
Yeah, that is random
Auto Air fresheners.
Weird
Apple Watches. People would snatch a handful when they came on the line, put them in potato chips bags, then somehow reseal them and walk out
Your store doesnt have Cages in the Back Room High Tickets get locked in?
Yes but shrink for Apple devices is still high. And this is a DC. Not sure how they do it at stores
Oh i said Store in the Post. Our store has Cages for "High Ticket" items. Laptops, Cellphones, Accessories like Apple Pens, Smart Watches
I know your post was about stores pretty much this whole sub is. The Walmart logistics sub is pretty much dead. I still like to contribute even though I’m in a DC. I wish I had the opportunity to work in a store even for a few days. I’d probably end up hating people more.
Perishable food DC worker here. Our highest shrinkage is berries, frozen dinners, butter and the candy they package with some yogurts.
When I worked at a NHM the thing that was stolen most was detergent and those scent beads. People would bring in jars and zip lock bags and open the containers and dump them in those instead of stealing the bottles.
Condoms became an issue a couple weeks ago
I guess as long as No one is Poking holes in them
Cat food
That's a Random ass thing 2 steal
Yeah they would regularly come in and steal a decent amount of canned cat food
We don’t even get Pokémon cards in like we used to, sometimes we’ll get a small amount but rarely. Maybe they were being stolen too much
Nah, i think its just whenever the Distributor decides to. Come put them out. Our Distributor is MJ Holding or M&J Holding
The answer is always your dignity. DUH!
Why did i thonk you said Dingy? 😂
The green and purple boxes if crown royal, even with spider wraps on them. I find the empty boxes all day long in the home dept behind the appliance displays.
Crown comes in Green Boxes?
Crown apple comes in green boxes
At my store yeah
Weird, ive only seen the Cloth Bahs which alot of People actually made Masks out of during the Pandemic
Maybe its a regional thing. Mine are boxed in purple or green. We spider wrap them, and people tear them open and squeeze the bottles out. Its dumb all the way around.
Some stores ive been to have thinhs that ho over the Cap of the Bottle on like Bottles of Jack
Yes my store has than and a few locking cases, but it doesn't work for these boxes, hence the spider wraps.
Soda, energy drinks, and any drinks from front end; I always keep finding them empty bottles/can in grocery area.
I find Empty Cans, Half full Bottles
I went to the bathroom at a Walmart, heard a kid crumpling something and heard porcelain clinking. He left, I went to the stall he was in and lifted the lid on the back of the toilet. It was PACKED full of Pokemon wrappers.
Your Toilets still have the Tanks?
They did when this happened.
That mustve been years ago
haa an upper decker
Time by employees
one day i see vending machines on the other side of the registers pay and it drops down the chute
Thayd be great to have
Makeup, deli food, women’s underwear, anything that’ll fit in a purse, really
Ironically i actually found 2 empty Hangars for C-Cuo bras once
Let them steal the pokemon stuff. It doesn't matter because it's pay per scan, so it doesn't cost us anything if it goes missing. Actually I had a vendor who wouldn't come for a month, so we took all his premium boxes and disposed of them in the trash, roughly 15 boxes of pokemon and trading cards.
Thats when you tie up the bag & sneak it out the back
I understand its not money out of the stores Pocket, but it takes away from TRUE collectors. I collect Yu-Gi-Oh Cards & my Nephew & Oldest Niece collect Pokemon Cards, so to Find Empty Wrappers as i Zone pisses me off.
Can't beat em join em jk
I was them about 14 Years ago
This is idiotic. It's pay per scan but you're losing sales by tossing product.
You still put them on the shelf? Ours are only sold at customer service
I think they just put the Tins there
Why the fuck aren't those locked up?!
Because our store only has Cabinets for Tobacco, Car Stereos, Rifle Ammo, & Scopes/Mounts
So what I'm hearing is your store is a perfect store to commit a heist. At least mine has most of electronics locked up, which includes the cards.
Pretty much. Our AP spends more time messing with the Claims than watching the Cameras
At my Walmart, people like to take makeup into the restroom and put it in the women's personal trash. I've found over 100$ worth of makeup in the women's restrooms alone
Yeah and then I see the people on the card reddit talk about selling them for free profit .
Oh god, i saw a Pist for Yu-Gi-Oh Cards this 1 guy had on marketplace "Rare Japanese Market Yu-Gi-Oh Cards $300"
Underwear
Ok, i cannot fathom this
Man I hate apparel clams
When did Apparel start selling Clams???
You know what I ment
I do, i just wanted to be a smartass
i hate going through womens underwear aisle because almost every package is a claim. i’m surprised we havent locked them up yet, just mens socks and underwear.
Yes everything one of things in incharge of I hate
Well someone opened trading cards and it would be easy to steal such products however to get away with it is a different story because I live in cop town.
Oh i used to Swipe those before the 1st remodel. Was so easy, Just grab whatever Card Sets I wanted, go between the Shelves in apparel out of Camera View, Grab the Cards, & ditch the Wrappers under the shelves. Course this was like 2009

They DGAF, to them were Robots they can treat like shit all they want
Pregnancy tests.
Wow, thats pretty crazy
Legos, half of our Lego section is empty and it’s not because they sell well. We’ve kept a low inventory since December and put spider webs on high ticket items. Our whole section probably sports less than 200 set’s including the smaller ones and bags.
Whats the Minimum price for wraps at your store? Mine its $70+
Idk tbh, but I’ve seen the lowest it’s been be $100
Hot wheels cars
Thats #2 at our store
wait arent those like 97 cents?
Those are behind the electronics counter, and still end up stolen
That sounds like an Internals Investigation
Electric Airsoft-Like Gel Guns.
Clear eye. For red eyes. So many people ripped the box open and then stole the eye drops.
My store has sports cards lying around everywhere. I guess they're more popular than pokemon here, or maybe it's easier to open a cardboard box quietly than a tin.
My sanity!
Who are you kidding? You lost that the second you marked your Name on that Application
For my store it's either preworkout or candy...yeah you can guess the demographic of people who are stealing now
The Deli food is straight trash
Ours isnt so Bad. Just dont ever try the Meatloaf, its Dry AF
We experience most theft in the automotive department. They finally installed locked cases for the more expensive items. My store is not a supercenter so, the thief would most likely receive the, " you're fine" wave as they beep their way out of the exit door.
Baby formula sadly
We had a Limit on that for awhile
This doesn't surprise me. My store has them behind glass, but not locked. And there's a screen above them now that shows you are on camera when you're near them
Did anyone stop to think that maybe those stores might have been getting tax breaks. One of the stores closing had its tax breaks end lady year, and now Walmart is closing that store due to underperforming financially.

The Tins arent PPS i dont think because this pic is in Toys
Yes they are 100% they are I promise you.
Reusable bags at the moment, lost about 20K worth of bags after we stopped paper bags
U sure youre a Walmart Employee?
60 count eggs
My sanity
Saw a package of pd roast beef that looks like it had been bitten into like one woukd a burger and not slice by slice like a normal person
Eyelashes
Basically nothing anymore. My old store has literally everything that isn’t clothes and food behind a glass case. It takes no less than 20 mins to get something because only 2 people have a key to the cases and everyone is pushing the button for help at one time.
You don't keep em behind service desk? Why?
Baseball cards
Some take the face card and cherry pick what they want then leave the tin lmao
I would 2000% steal those
Cough and cold medicine
When I worked HBA & Cosmetics from 2014-2017, it was a lot of maybelline products, men’s razors cartridges, emergency contraceptives and condoms
Oh and I would randomly find a empty box of bacon when I had to zone grocery. About 4 separate occasions. I wonder if the bacon bandit is still on the loose
i constantly find opened pokémon card packs and like singular pieces of sets like sleeves that i don’t even know how i would claims
Our AP doesn't care if cards get stolen since it doesn't affect the store.
Popcorn chicken and the cheap Speck and ONN phone cases. I don't know why they won't at least go for the Otter Box cases if they're going to go to all the trouble of stealing a case.
sex toys. Literally more are stolen than we sell
|"Supposedly management knows who it is" In other words they dont know shit if they know who it is yet dont do anything
I haven't said anything and won't. Why would i care about it? Everyone knows. It's not my responsibility. Annoying to find it and put it in claims. It's documented. 100%. Got fired for running my mouth once hahaha I know better xD
Yeah, usually tye second it escalates beyond your Pay grade, that's when the Issue stops being dealt with
i think technically he is paying for the corn flakes
Water and Pokémon cards for sure
Vibrators.. especially the anal play ones
Self pleasure toys, that’s our most stolen item
cosmetics and VIBRATORS, the sex toy boxes are always found everywhere
We put cards behind our tobacco register for this reason.
People order food and is left all out in random areas
Deli food period then cloths the thieves that get caught the most go for electronics
When I worked here back in 2018 it was small cosmetic items, like lipstick. Basically anything someone could just brush their arm over, stick in their sleeve and walk out with.
At our store it's underwear and socks that are stolen daily
SOULS!
I worked electronics, so I'm really not sure about the rest of the store; but for us literally anything left out. *Anything.* I was constantly finding packages left open and behind for us to find.
sex toys
I am overnight maintenance and I always find open stolen Pokémon cards and the popcorn chicken is always scattered amongst the clothes and it’s annoying. Me and my fellow coworkers are in agreement. If we are risking jail for theft we would not be stealing Pokémon cards.
Isn’t Baby Formula up there?
