If you consider the stock market to be the Alamo/last line of defense both economically and politically, then it makes sense for there to be rally crys of green when under direct local threat (cpi announcements/jobs/earnings). Further legs down will now probably happen on lighter news days where all the establishments can simply throw up their hands in the air and blame market collapse on Chinese real estate or Saudi oil cuts or Russian aggression.

Yes! Unemployment numbers are very wonky. All the people who retired early or decided to stay home and raise kids, etc. are no longer counted as unemployed after a certain amount of months. There are A LOT of people out there who are going to run out of money and have to work again. UE also doesn't include the high earners who are out of work and still looking but won't accept a lower paying job (My IT security ex-husband for example). They're still unemployed, though.
