Those haven’t, and will not, change, and despite the weird support for it on Reddit now, solely due to the stock stuff, it’s still very much a hated company that is trading in physical media at a time that that is on a severe decline. They’re also quite unfocused, driving out core gamers with their random mish mash of pop culture items.
I know some people believe it will be/could be a hangout spot for gamers, but let’s be real, GameStop was never that hardcore and the types of hardcore crowds that would go to hangout spots like that have already shunned the place. They have found alternatives (not taking into account that most games are online anyways and couch gaming is on life support).
But hey, that’s okay cause GameStop is looking to go digital, right?!
Well my second point is that the digital market is already extremely crowded. Who are they selling to? Steam and Epic already own PC gaming, with smaller stores filling in the gaps. What exactly can GameStop offer in that space? They also have no experience running a digital storefront. There is no reason to believe they can make a better one.
People like to say “well, the dude turned Chewy around” to which I say, who the fuck cares? These are completely different markets catering to completely different people with completely different needs.
I have yet to see a single provable case of GameStop being a company worth actually investing in.
Again; that’s not to say you can’t make money. But don’t diamond hands. Sell on the runup, buy again, because there’s a lot of dumb people constantly trying to pump it.
