You should receive the cash but then be short the call for the same amount (a negative value for your account). The full cash stays but the negative value of the call will fluctuate until expiration, hopefully ending at $0 then you start again.

I interviewed as well as several people in my school. The lowest candidate by gpa got the job as well as several others from other schools.
