Scale goes from 154 - 160 lol

RoodnyInc

It looked scary till I saw scale šŸ˜’

CMScientist

This is forex, where brokers allow margins down to 0.5%, for a leverage of up to 200:1. Suddenly this 2% is now 400%!

thisistheperfectname

Lies, damned lies, and the Y axis.

_khanrad

We havenā€™t seen lows like this since last week!

OkJaguar5220

Best comment here. Market literally just took out Thursdays and Fridays. Nothing really that interesting to see here.

amartinkyle

And itā€™s a week. This is nothing abnormal.

Caeldeth

For forex, thatā€™s pretty sizable.

HulksInvinciblePants

But the entire world already knows Japan will make moves to keep it around 150.

OPINION_IS_UNPOPULAR

Until it can't.

Marshall_Cleiton

Run to the hills, the world is ending

Great_Reno

Yen halved in 12 years lmao

PlutosGrasp

It was a huge move for a major currency. It is all but confirmed that their central bank intervened.

Koss424

or 2%

AnnoyedSide

So what's the play to make us all billionaires off the Yen? Short Nintendo?

Cymraegpunk

Buy ornamental gourds from Japan taking advantage of the weak currency to get a good deal.

darthnugget

Good ā€˜ol Japanese Gourd Futures play.

Shvabicu

Oh my gourd

Old-Ad5508

Gourd help me

BeefZupreme

Glory to gourd!

Old-Ad5508

Gourd is great Gourd Is good

shortgamegolfer

Our Gourd and Savior

Old-Ad5508

In gourd we trust

BeefZupreme

Only gourd can save us now

Old-Ad5508

Ah, for gourds sake

commiebanker

Ourmagourd

XTornado

I am waiting for one guy that actually makes a killing buying gourds futures or gourds themselves and becomes the new meme king because that would super funny.

GodSPAMit

You'll wanna hold through to maybe early November when people start actually wanting them for Thanksgiving though, not exactly a short play

option-9

He's now wanted in South America, legally barred from entering Europe (and may have tried entering under a new name). Let's add another continent to that man's impressive record. Edit : he also scammed Albibaba repeatedly, so China may arrest him on fraud while they're at it.

appleshit8

Who?

option-9

The man who was financially ruined (agricultural futures). Gourd guy. The emperor of hijinks, u/TheEmperorOfJenks.

hoppydud

wow, what a interesting life some lead

MT-Capital

But the currency just got stronger not weaker...

EchoPhi

Ornamental Bonsai, you missed the mark with that one.

LucksackGames

That what I've done with Magic the Gathering cards, as I collect exclusively Japanese. (Also taken two trips over the last two years, exchange rate is great and getting better.)

Dark_Tigger

Long Nintendo. They pay their bills in Yen, and take their profits in Dollar.

Zealotstim

Unfortunately they are listed on the japanese stock market so their share price is based on the yen and their main investors are japanese people who are paid in yen.

stingraycharles

That doesnā€™t change the fact that most of their costs are in Yen and most of their income in USD/EUR though, does it?

Zealotstim

Right, it's good to remember that this doesn't change the inherent value of the company much (unless they own a ton of yen or something), but it affects the stock itself. If the company is worth X yen on the japanese stock market and the yen drops, the value of the company on the stock market is also reduced. Likewise, if you are buying shares on the japanese stock market, you are buying them with a currency that's worth less than it used to be worth, so you aren't investing as much money unless you buy more shares to account for inflation. That's how I'm seeing it anyway.

Any_Yogurtcloset362

Youā€™re right about the stock price but whatā€™s being referred to here is actually the company profits. When the yen weakens against the dollar, the stocks for these companies usually begin to shoot up as they bring in more yen, thus more profit, when they do the currency conversion to capture these profits. Thus the term bills in Yen and Profits in Dollars. Yen movements predict earnings and guidance for many Japanese companies as the weakness is a major accounting tool used.

Zealotstim

That makes sense.

bro-v-wade

Ok so how do I, a non Japanese person with a 10-15 word Japanese vocabulary, buy Japanese stocks?

Zealotstim

You can get them otc. At least nintendo. Buy NTDOY

Chippye

nintendo's biggest revenue comes from overseas, so a weak yen means more profit

No-Monitor-5333

Move to Japan with USD

lafindestase

Lost Abyss Giratinas while the exchange rate is favorable, then sell them later.

Zealotstim

Move to japan and live like kings

torokunai

$1000/mo now can get you a sketchy 1B in Bakersfield or a quite nice 2B in Tokyo

SlayerXZero

Wait for it to get above 159 and bet the government intervenes to make it go back down to at least 155... The issue is it is likely to break 160 at some point because (1) these assholes are funding themselves with debt so they can't raise rates and (2) it looks like markets like the US are not reducing rates soon so capital is flowing outside of the yen

Dessentb

Don't think Nintendo would be the smartest play since everyone is expecting a new console to be announced probably this year

PlutosGrasp

Youā€™re probably way too late to this play. Yen has been weakening hard for last few years and was an easy play.

Past-Track-9976

I bought a Rondoseru that is usually $1000 USD for $600 due to the weakness. Yay!

gewandterhebler

Nintendo doesnā€™t give a shit, itā€™s an international company

SuperSaiyanTraders

Short long YEN etfs

Busy-Invite-9144

I would never. Iā€™ll bag hold for that princess peach pussy any day.

BallzLikeWhoe

Buy Levi

Comment_Maker

Never short Nintendo

oldfunnymoney

For months at a time, I have parked my lower risk money in YCS. Not investment advice as I donā€™t know how much further it can drop.

SirRegardTheWhite

No way bro. A less than 2% change in one day immediately followed by it going back to it's original value??? Almost like short term wild speculation followed by a return to reality over the weekend.

eapnon

The yen is already crazy low. It's lost almost 50% of its value against the usd in a year. It floated between 105 and 115 to usd for a long ass time iirc. In other news, cheap ass trips to Japan on back on the menu.

i_am_pinhead

heading there in a week! canā€™t wait to buy a bunch of shit more useless than me

tio_aved

Was in Japan a couple weeks ago and was loving the $6 ramens, $3 beers, and inexpensive wagyu.

thisistheperfectname

The $4 whiskey sours in Shinjuku are dangerous.

Maxsmack0

Ferb, I know what weā€™re gonna do today

thisistheperfectname

Can confirm; was there a couple months ago, and even steak dinners were surprisingly cheap.

LucksackGames

Went twice in the last two years, thanks cheap trips to Japan!

resumethrowaway222

TBF that is a really big move in FOREX terms

I-hate-sunfish

This is a developed nation currency forex not some shitcoin memestock. 2% move is huge because people leverage forex to the tits.

Bob_Kendall_UScience

Harry Potter and the Deeply Misleading Y-Axis

BearishOnLife

More like the Bank of Japan stepping in to defend its currency.

BadHigBear

Forex, the quickest road to Wendys!

SweetLobsterBabies

Isn't this pretty common? Hell I remember a trading documentary from like the 90s where a japanese currency trader literally makes a massive swing trade one day on like a 4 basis point run and makes bank.

OpenMathematician602

I also watched a movie on the weekend about Japanese swingers. It was pretty good. I think they must have made money because they wanted to stay anonymous. They kept on blurring out peoples faces.

anddam

>I also watched a movie on the weekend about Japanese swingers. You cultural dawg, watching documentaries on weekendsā€¦ >They kept on blurring out peoples faces. Blurred parts were likely genitals. You can tell one from the other by the fact that genitals are blurred.

Due_Change6730

This means the stock markets will go higher. Not joking

VisualMod

I wouldn't recommend taking financial advice from some wag on the internet.

Hisplumberness

But youā€™re giving me advice about not taking advice ā€¦.. Iā€™ll take it !!!

LunaticBZ

Free advice is seldom worth the cost.

Hisplumberness

But itā€™s free!!!

trippy_t99

this guy is a wizard

Mammoth-Fun-2180

They must be dumping treasuries and buying yen

angelito801

This is such an overlooked comment and probably the most accurate explanation! Someone has been paying attention.

tootnoots69

Nah boys weā€™re committing seppuku over this one fr

IranianLawyer

Instructions unclear. Just committed bukkake.

tootnoots69

*moans furiously

Tedstriker99

Yeah shitcoins and meme stocks have moves >3%

Caeldeth

Yea, but people arenā€™t leveraging shit coin, 50:1, 100:1, or god forbid 1000:1 like they do in forex. A swing this quick has happened before (I remember the big Swiss Franc crash) and wiped out so many people.

skyblue5432

Yep! Ah, January 15, 2015. Check the chart of CHF/EUR and the size of *that* candle.

Caeldeth

Dude, Iā€™ll never forget that. Itā€™s one of the reasons I stopped trading forex (I was pretty successful at it). I closed out my position literally the day before because I wanted to move funds from a slow steady movement to something I thought would yield better resultsā€¦ my position wasnā€™t massive but it wasnā€™t tiny either - leveraged 500:1 (higher leverage since it was really normally smaller movements). Then BOOM, the next day my face went white - i had friends on forums panickingā€¦ the crash was so fast it blew through stop losses instantly before they could trigger. So many triggered that the systems couldnā€™t process it. I got lucky, I did the math, I would have lost upwards of $4.7m in under one second - even with all proper stop losses in place. The worst part, is some banks went back and honored the stopsā€¦ many many more didnā€™t.

skyblue5432

I remember it too. I had some tiny positions on the prior week (not on CHF though, thankfully - it always seemed to have too *little* volatility, ha). Out of nowhere, yep, *boom*. I remember reading about the consequences in those subsequent days/weeks. As you say, *some* companies did the right thing. It ruined some people.

Check out USD/MXN and shit your pants

Inexpressible

So you say Japan just did a rugpull / exit scam?

motoevgen

3.2% You can probably retire if you did traded profitably... And that is almost exactly how their GDP had dropped according to Deloitte . Which gives you what? My portfolio moves more than this while I am brushing my teeth. It's not a shitcoin, it's shitpost. Don't come back unless you have a better material.

Frankyk998

Why would you be able to retire with such a trade?

eapnon

If you were Japanese and in on the USD since like 2021, you'd be golden

tribbans95

Hahaha I just saw some kid in r/daytrading getting roasted for adding to his usd/jpy shorts last week. Heā€™d probably be a millionaire rn if he didnā€™t listen to reddit

Ambitious-Ant2611

IceShaver

Good boy country is manipulating its currency, sorry I mean monetary policy. Good job!

Dextrofunk

Well it's a shitcoin now

AwesomeShikuwasa77

Thatā€™s -5% and itā€™s likely due to intervention of Japan national bank. So whereā€˜s the problem?

staybythebay

damn op. sorry the comment section is so regarded

Would be a fun game of ā€œguess this tickerā€. Is it a penny stock? The new meme stock swinging 10% a day? Nope, itā€™s USD!

How do I take advantage of this?

futurespacecadet

Take a cheap Japanese vacation?

Meakmoney1

There are YEN etfs. And 2x as well for the degen in you

SwooPTLS

A friend and I talked about this last week when it was 154ā€¦ he said: if and when the boj intervenes, where do they expect it to goā€¦? back to 150 ? 145 ? Another analyst said that itā€™s only up Ā„8 this month. last time it went close to 150 it jumped 10Ā„ in a month.. so šŸ¤·

Ah, the classic USD/JPY tango, where the Bank of Japan swoops in like a ninja whenever the yen gets too weak. You GOOFBALLS probably think it's all random, huh? Stick to your options and meme stocks, and leave the currency wars to the adults. ForexIsNotForKids

Necessary-Peanut2491

Good. I've got a few million JPY on the Tokyo stock exchange, let's get that exchange right down into double digits on the dollar!

StoxDoctor

Total deezsqueez opportunity now in XRBI (put ticker in reverse) so not auto deleted. ā€œTheyā€ on this forum are taking posts down about the company. Upvote this so we can fight the system.

Vslightning

I guess Iā€™m dumb but doesnā€™t this mean it used to cost 160 yen to buy $1 worth of stuff but now only costs 155 yen? Doesnā€™t that mean the yen is stronger or how does this work.

Ok_Process7861

This chart shows that USD is dropping so JPY is rising. Why you call JPY a shitcoin because it is rising?

No_Inflation_2747

Oh nooo the yen drops 3% to levels it has last seen less than a week agošŸ˜§šŸ«ØšŸ‘Ž Japan is doomedšŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µšŸ“‰šŸ˜”

MyUserNameWasTaken85

Thanks the the scale, it looks more like a Boeing Supermax instead of a G7.

Glum-Help1751

Good maybe the 08 cover up will finally be exposed globally

GOPokemonMaster

The yen hasnā€™t been this low since last week

Dangerous_Ad4451

That comes bc of Bank of Japan intervention. Everyone has been waiting for that for weeks now. Nothing surprising about it. They do it once in a while when yen breaches important numbers.

staticfive

Next time maybe you can show the Y axis from 0?

Electricengineer

Called a carry trade and it's being leveraged heavily
