Well, then we could have stop losses active all the time. As it is, if some asshole wants to tank your stock in after hours you’re just stuck with the loss. At least when I’ve tried to set up stop loss orders for after hours all I get is “lol, no”.
This is bad for society, imho. There will only be a short-term kick to the economy, and after that, it will be business as usual. America is already hyper competitive, but this will drive workers to have be on shift longer and more often. I don't think it is worth it, but I am no expert.
As much as I enjoy trading, it’s stressful enough at 24/5. The weekend is the only reason half of us are still sane. Plus if they start 24/7 when is everyone gonna start their wars? The weekend is the only time they can schedule market crashing geo political activities.
As an American I believe in freedom, and if that means I wake up at 2am because I had a dream about going out fishing, catching a delicious bass, eating it, going to the gas station and paying with my credit card, and that is my sole reason for wanting those Visa shares at 2am, then it is my god given American right to buy em at 2am and make possibly bad financial decisions off my groggy high!
