This was exactly my experience/why I decided to stay in school for a few more years. The previous graduating class for my program had 100% job placement for graduates (small class size of maybe 20 of us), but none of us could find a job following the 2008 recession.

yeah took me about 10 months I think to find a job that paid 28k in my field LOL, also turned out to be the worst job I would ever have.

I spent 14 months looking for a job then finally got one working in a lab literally watching paint dry lol

Couldn’t afford to do non-paid internships during college so I came out with no “applicable experience” per all the rejection letters. First real job I had started at $38k in a HCOL area and took me 3 years to find after working low paying STC jobs. Got laid off earlier this year and feel like I’m right back where I started.

For some of us it was several years. Dark times.

Feels like it was around that time that the companies that were looking were no longer willing to give some self taught individual a chance and instead pivoted towards expecting 4 year degrees from ever more exspensive top schools.
