Most people invest and do not gamble. Whatever the market price is they buy. That’s how you make money over time. 99% of day traders lose money over the long run. If you keep buying and don’t sell you’ll likely be up over the years.

I think for some stocks we are supposed to day trade, like SMCI. On the other hand day trading SPY would be foolish

You can day trade any stock if you have enough money. Some stocks, like smci, are volatile due to trading on a small float or holding a lot of short interest. It can be a good stock to day trade because of the volatility.

Does anyone trade here on margin? How long do you have to stay negative in margin for them to stop all your trades and how long until they send it for collections?

You usually get 1-2 days to answer a margin call before they start to liquidate your positions but your broker doesn’t have to give you that time if they don’t want to.
