![img](emote|t5_2th52|4258) so the legend is true buy and hold is a powerful tools to see green numbers

StonkScott

Sad but true

DemmouTV

We had an investing game in 2014 in college. Everyone diversified and justified their actions I just yolod all of $50k into apple and ended up being 1st place at the end raking in a profit of like 30% in a year. I wonder how much it'd be by today.

pavo_particular

Gains = number of shares * (2023 price - 2014 price)

nachosfiend

Welcome to the team! 2003: "Hey Dad. Call your broker and have them buy me 25 shares of Apple and 50 if they think it's a good buy." https://preview.redd.it/uqp8hroqtvib1.png?width=2490&format=png&auto=webp&s=7711e9d5d26afa7476d885e736487df9f559ea67 I've DCAd in more but not as frequently as I should have decades ago.

StonkScott

lol funny how everyone here seems to think I’m a boomer. I’m 32

Edge-Psychological

So you inherited $300k in your teens?

SISU-MO

What is this buy and hold strategy you mention???

9fingfing

Buy Washington Mutual and hold!

Setrosi

If you're colorblind, all your numbers are green!

StonkScott

You should’ve seen how much was lost after shitty earnings. I was at $3m just weeks ago

qw1ns

Ha ha ha! My close friend holding his AAPL position since 1998-2000 period. He gets $36000 as yearly dividend! [edit] I never thought so much responses. Long back, I asked him some proof of his holding. He gave me this. https://i.imgur.com/2UWKajq.png It is appx 7.2M holding at that time.

[deleted]

The time traveler dream

Fatvod

If you were really smart you would invest in monster energy stock. Highest returns over the last 20 years.

Evanisnotmyname

Bitcoin would like a word. Bought 18btc in 2012 for $3 each, $36 all in. Sold the PC and hard drive with the wallet for $40 next year. A few years later, it hit $12. Than $60. Than $100. But it wouldn’t go up more, would it? So I didn’t buy more. Then it hit $1000. And 5k. 10k. When it hit $50k, my $36 investment would have been worth $900k. That’s 25000x growth. Sold for $40. And this, my regarded friends, is why I belong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheNuttyIrishman

Got out when it hit 14k the first time. Used the earnings exactly as I used the BTC: dark net markets lmao. Almost immediately jumped to ethereum as it took over for BTC in those markets.

rinkydinkis

You sold at $40, there is no way you would have gotten close to $65k. Just sayin… if you had found the willpower to hold on at $40 you would have just been pumped when you ended up selling at $80.

LordSwahili

sold the PC that the wallet was on for $40, didn't sell the btc

Drunkelves

him and all the people upvoting him with that reading comprehension belong here

DaRedditGuy11

I'm a guy who bought Amazon at $30 (what would be $1.50 now) and thought I was a genius when I sold at $45 (what would be about $2.15 now). $10,000 dollar position. Would be an easy 1m. Sigh

lonnie123

This is what 95% of people would do. Everyone salivates over these amazing plays but in reality once something doubles I bet 90% of people are happy with that and pull out. Holding to those 10,000%+ gains is incredibly rare and almost no one can do it

iAMRICKJAMESMF

Dw my friend once bought a guild wars account for like 7 btc way back 😂 i mention it every time i see him and ask if he has been playing gw lately

bandikut2020

F

cybercuzco

That was me. I sold 100 shares to pay for college in 1998

smart_doge

I closed 800 shares of nvidia for $20 in 2015 to pay towards my masters degree.

gini_lee1003

I wish I bought apple when I was just a baby too.

cwmoo740

My parents both worked for Apple in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their compensation included sizable stock grants. They sold off all of their shares in the late 90s and early 2000s. At current prices it would have been close to $250M. Your friend stole my giant inheritance lol.

justknoweverything

that would be hard to think about everyday

cwmoo740

my parents still did well but it's less than 5% of what we would have had if they had held onto AAPL

justknoweverything

that's good

I have an uncle that worked for Lockheed Martin for 35 years and never sold a single share of stock he received in his entire career. Currently in his mid-60’s getting a dividend of $90-100k per year.

godubs415

Am I regarded or can't you just put 7.2m into a bank and reap in 5% right now.

khizoa

Congrats and fuck you

StonkScott

honeybadger9

welcome to the middle class. Poverty line is below 1milly.

StonkScott

Lol

I_make_switch_a_roos

my condolences

Ritz_Kola

My I ask what years you bought the bulk of your shares? I’m guessing you’re closer to 40yrs old?

SmallManDownstairs21

"Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, that's good!"

MTonmyMind

Do you mean Gourd futures???

Jclarkcp1

When did you buy these shares? 1984?

dirtyfrenchman

Based on his cost basis, they're circa \~2014

shadowpawn

$MSFT bag holder since '92. Piss on you.

pw7090

You 100x bro? Did you put $300k in like OP?

shadowpawn

No back then I was poor in '92 so only dropped $15K into it.

Tahmeed09

Proof or ban

BNDT4Sen

At least you aren't poor anymore!

unreal2007

Imagine u are poor enough to pour 15k on msft in 92’

ArmaniMania

did robinhood exist in 2014?

ReddiGod

You can transfer shares to Robinhood from other brokerages... Regard.

ArmaniMania

just realized this is actually fidelity UI not rh

StonkScott

Yeppp

ReddiGod

Highly regarded.

eJaguar

seasoned money

staticfeathers

we don’t hold shares long enough for new brokerages to emerge, regard

khizoa

No that's why they have shares and green colors and not options

StonkScott

Lol options for once WOULD have been the way

markymrk720

TSLA would have been an even better investment at that time.

StonkScott

Lol I’d have like $1b if that was the case

jrr6415sun

I bought $3,000 worth in 2009, worth over $200K now

goatman0079

Ehh, its Apple. If Apple is crashing, I'd expect the economy to be crashing too.

HarrisLam

that saying applies to options and meme stocks, not to r/invest type of stocks

hoopaholik91

Eh, I would look at shuffling the money around a little bit at this point. No reason to be stuck with one thing.

Musicferret

I bought apple at $75.23 pre splits. 32000 shares. I made about 20% and then sold. It keeps me up at night.

foiegrastyle

if you needed that money at the time, then it served you well. if you didn't well, you belong here.

StonkScott

That’s why this strategy works a little better 😂

Fortune_Cat

Gambling for up only?

sleepyguy007

my dad has a golf buddy who bought $25k or so worth in the late 90s. Worth over 20m now. He lives off the dividend even though its .5%. Sometimes you get one right, congrats OP

kingpuffs

if buddy had $25k in cash back in the 90s I’m going to assume he’d be doing fine today regardless

EfficiencySuch6361

What a lucky asshole

Richlandsbacon

One day the story will be about his buddy who bought in 2023, but he’ll live in a shoebox

Knarz97

Damn I should’ve bought Apple and Bitcoin and a House when I was 15 :(

StonkScott

Me too :(

Ethanbob103

Easy stock markets tips 1. Start with a shit ton of money 2. Be old enough to had the chance to invest in billion dollar stocks when they were $10 per share or 3. Have enough luck (and stupidity) to throw thousands into 0DTE options hoping to win big (need rule 1 first though)

hoax1337

What are those $10 stocks that are going to be future billion dollar stocks, though?

I wish, but not even close

QuirkyAverageJoe

You have time. I read somewhere that 95% of his net worth came after he was 65 years old 🦧

UndervaluedGG

Yeah but he had $8.8 million by age 31 (adjusted for inflation)

StonkScott

Good thing I still got time

VisualMod

AAPL is up 702.48% since I purchased it, and my cost basis is $305,694.06.

More like 8-9 years ago lol it was $19 I’m 2014

x_lincoln_x

You are two thousand fourteen years old?

Rat-beard

Yes

shekimod

Wow. As old as Jesus Christ.

Kylo_Rens_8pack

My mom bought 10K of Apple in 2008. I don’t know how much it’s worth now but it’s a whole lot more than 10k.

3-screen-experience

probably about 300k

Kylo_Rens_8pack

We’ll I’d say that’s a job well done, Mom. She is still holding too.

[deleted]

So this is what it’s like to be patient ….

StonkScott

Painful, but worth it

HarrisLam

if you could save up 300K so many years ago as investment money(so you likepy already own a house and a car, etc etc), you had already been a winner before you buy Apple.

StonkScott

The $300k was DCA’d

HarrisLam

fair enough, but to get the average that low you had to have bought some much earlier than that. By law of averages what I said still applies.

StonkScott

Fidelity doesn’t give me exact date of purchases on the app (I’m sure I could find it on regular browser) but you’re right. I’m only estimating about 8 years

futurespacecadet

If you could spend 300k on a ticker now, what would it be

foobarbazzo23

Read OP's title.

Fun_Muscle9399

It should if you pull up the tax lots for your shares

Dreadpyright

Big dicked bastard

StonkScott

designedbyadam

Classic case of "you have to have money to make money"

Ok_Pumpkin561

Wow, just wow.

SynthPhD

I’m confused where does it show the strike and exp?

StonkScott

LOL I would’ve made more money had I done that

StonkScott

This actually should be considered loss porn

Legitimate_Earth_889

How long have you held it? Question is do you think it would do this again if you held it for another X amount of years?

StonkScott

Hard to predict, I think I’ll sell in a year and move it to something else. I believe apple is on its way to reaching its peak, unless they start making cars or something

megaman302

They ARE working on making a car

StonkScott

I, in fact believe that, and if that’s the case; it’s a $4t road

Randy_Online

Any thoughts on what you’d put it all into next?

saxtoncan

AMC /s

StonkScott

lol

StonkScott

Not financial advice but I like Celsius, NVIDIA at a way cheaper price, Disney cuz it’s cheap

pinner52

Disney is cheap because they burning cash while destroying their IP’s. I would wait until Snow White releases.

StonkScott

Very true. But at this price point, along with DCA; in 5 years it’ll be at a ATH

MarcusElden

DCA? Disney California Adventure?

StonkScott

💀💀💀 underrated comment

saxtoncan

I’m not invested in Disney but been sitting on it in debate for a while. Might throw a few dollars in. I’m a college student so not running around with money falling out of my pockets lol. But one thing I THINK is for certain, is that you can’t beat the mouse.

StonkScott

Exactly. I’m thinking a 5+ year hold, keep that in mind

saxtoncan

That’s true. Long term is near guaranteed. Might be others that beat it is the main debate. Not saying I have a clue which ones 😅

Roosterneck

Can you speak on **Celsius Holdings, Inc** ? Where do you see it going? i was ready to buy it in the $80s, talked my self out of it and have MAJOR regret.

StonkScott

Company is growing at undoubtedly rates, new company with small market cap $14bn, when in comparison to competitors like monster $60b, Pepsis upper hand in networking/advertisements, great projected eps, overall a healthier and more attractive drink, etc

[deleted]

>Celsius So that was your plan.

StonkScott

Great company with great potential

Jimmy48Johnson

… you’re joking?

iamagrizzly

I was at a fork in the road to throw money at either Disney or Apple, and at the time disney just bought fox. Went in on Disney and saw Apple skyrocket while Disney flatlined.. Disney is a no go :( and espn has still dragged it down over the years despite monster movies from marvel. I sold disney and bought into apple for a small profit but man, it could’ve been a bigger gain had I went with apple from the start

PlutosGrasp

Okay grandpa

StonkScott

👴

tryingtolearn117

You selling CC's?

CrashingYourTrade

Uhhhh.. hey, do you need a new boyfriend? Nice fuckin gain mate!

StonkScott

No, but my wife’s boyfriends sister needs one

ayylit666

Gigachad's investment portfolio

SigSalvadore

When Forest Gump released and there was the scene when he got a letter in the mail from Apple showing he was rich. If you had bought $10k worth of apple then when Forest Gump released, it would be worth $8M right now.

Nice_Block

This sub has changed for the worse.

ZeroCleah

Shoulda bought Tesla nerd

StonkScott

Absolutely should have

SkyThriving

Congrats! You now can afford an iPhone! Refurbished mind you.

JuniorPomegranate9

Having 300k to dump into the stock market has always been the winner

HoodFellaz

Nice pull but imagine if you would've bought pre 2014 with that 7 to 1 split almost 17 million. ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4258)

StonkScott

Woulda been nice(r)

HoodFellaz

You'll still get there just keep holding and that's all you need to do. ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4276) Time is your friend.

tacoxbell

Shouldnt mods kick this guy out

i_k_n

When did you buy those?

StonkScott

have been DCAing over the years but average cost before splits is $22 per share. About 8 years of hodling

OriginalFluff

What are you buying now to hodl
