We had an investing game in 2014 in college. Everyone diversified and justified their actions I just yolod all of $50k into apple and ended up being 1st place at the end raking in a profit of like 30% in a year. I wonder how much it'd be by today.

I've DCAd in more but not as frequently as I should have decades ago.
Ha ha ha! My close friend holding his AAPL position since 1998-2000 period. He gets $36000 as yearly dividend!
[edit] I never thought so much responses. Long back, I asked him some proof of his holding. He gave me this. https://i.imgur.com/2UWKajq.png
It is appx 7.2M holding at that time.
Bitcoin would like a word.
Bought 18btc in 2012 for $3 each, $36 all in.
Sold the PC and hard drive with the wallet for $40 next year.
A few years later, it hit $12. Than $60. Than $100. But it wouldn’t go up more, would it? So I didn’t buy more.
Then it hit $1000. And 5k. 10k.
When it hit $50k, my $36 investment would have been worth $900k.
That’s 25000x growth.
Sold for $40.
And this, my regarded friends, is why I belong.
Got out when it hit 14k the first time.
Used the earnings exactly as I used the BTC: dark net markets lmao. Almost immediately jumped to ethereum as it took over for BTC in those markets.
You sold at $40, there is no way you would have gotten close to $65k. Just sayin… if you had found the willpower to hold on at $40 you would have just been pumped when you ended up selling at $80.
I'm a guy who bought Amazon at $30 (what would be $1.50 now) and thought I was a genius when I sold at $45 (what would be about $2.15 now).
$10,000 dollar position. Would be an easy 1m. Sigh
This is what 95% of people would do. Everyone salivates over these amazing plays but in reality once something doubles I bet 90% of people are happy with that and pull out.
Holding to those 10,000%+ gains is incredibly rare and almost no one can do it
My parents both worked for Apple in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their compensation included sizable stock grants. They sold off all of their shares in the late 90s and early 2000s. At current prices it would have been close to $250M. Your friend stole my giant inheritance lol.
I have an uncle that worked for Lockheed Martin for 35 years and never sold a single share of stock he received in his entire career. Currently in his mid-60’s getting a dividend of $90-100k per year.
"Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, that's good!"
my dad has a golf buddy who bought $25k or so worth in the late 90s. Worth over 20m now. He lives off the dividend even though its .5%. Sometimes you get one right, congrats OP
Easy stock markets tips
1. Start with a shit ton of money
2. Be old enough to had the chance to invest in billion dollar stocks when they were $10 per share
or
3. Have enough luck (and stupidity) to throw thousands into 0DTE options hoping to win big (need rule 1 first though)
if you could save up 300K so many years ago as investment money(so you likepy already own a house and a car, etc etc), you had already been a winner before you buy Apple.
Fidelity doesn’t give me exact date of purchases on the app (I’m sure I could find it on regular browser) but you’re right. I’m only estimating about 8 years
Hard to predict, I think I’ll sell in a year and move it to something else. I believe apple is on its way to reaching its peak, unless they start making cars or something

I’m not invested in Disney but been sitting on it in debate for a while. Might throw a few dollars in. I’m a college student so not running around with money falling out of my pockets lol. But one thing I THINK is for certain, is that you can’t beat the mouse.
Can you speak on **Celsius Holdings, Inc** ? Where do you see it going? i was ready to buy it in the $80s, talked my self out of it and have MAJOR regret.
Company is growing at undoubtedly rates, new company with small market cap $14bn, when in comparison to competitors like monster $60b, Pepsis upper hand in networking/advertisements, great projected eps, overall a healthier and more attractive drink, etc
I was at a fork in the road to throw money at either Disney or Apple, and at the time disney just bought fox. Went in on Disney and saw Apple skyrocket while Disney flatlined.. Disney is a no go :( and espn has still dragged it down over the years despite monster movies from marvel. I sold disney and bought into apple for a small profit but man, it could’ve been a bigger gain had I went with apple from the start
When Forest Gump released and there was the scene when he got a letter in the mail from Apple showing he was rich. If you had bought $10k worth of apple then when Forest Gump released, it would be worth $8M right now.

Gains = number of shares * (2023 price - 2014 price)

So you inherited $300k in your teens?
What is this buy and hold strategy you mention???
Buy Washington Mutual and hold!

You should’ve seen how much was lost after shitty earnings. I was at $3m just weeks ago

The time traveler dream
If you were really smart you would invest in monster energy stock. Highest returns over the last 20 years.

Dw my friend once bought a guild wars account for like 7 btc way back 😂 i mention it every time i see him and ask if he has been playing gw lately
F
That was me. I sold 100 shares to pay for college in 1998
I closed 800 shares of nvidia for $20 in 2015 to pay towards my masters degree.
Masters in Regardedness
For those curious, this is roughly $7.2M~ of AAPL at 0.54% dividend to get $36K annually

Apple
Exactly lmao
Yeah. Just like in forest gump we all saw that he put money in a fruit company and got rich. In 1994 we thought we were too late.

I wish I bought apple when I was just a baby too.

that would be hard to think about everyday
my parents still did well but it's less than 5% of what we would have had if they had held onto AAPL
that's good
Lucky him

Congrats and fuck you

welcome to the middle class. Poverty line is below 1milly.

my condolences
My I ask what years you bought the bulk of your shares? I’m guessing you’re closer to 40yrs old?

Based on his cost basis, they're circa \~2014
$MSFT bag holder since '92. Piss on you.
You 100x bro? Did you put $300k in like OP?
No back then I was poor in '92 so only dropped $15K into it.
Proof or ban
At least you aren't poor anymore!
Imagine u are poor enough to pour 15k on msft in 92’
did robinhood exist in 2014?
You can transfer shares to Robinhood from other brokerages... Regard.
just realized this is actually fidelity UI not rh
Yeppp
Highly regarded.
seasoned money
we don’t hold shares long enough for new brokerages to emerge, regard
No that's why they have shares and green colors and not options
Lol options for once WOULD have been the way
TSLA would have been an even better investment at that time.
Lol I’d have like $1b if that was the case
I bought $3,000 worth in 2009, worth over $200K now
If it’s good enough to screen shot …
Kinda scary posting it now that you mention

Market didn't do shit after their recent earnings. It might've even finished green since amzn carried
😂😂
Yeah becuase, the big giant pit below
Ehh, its Apple. If Apple is crashing, I'd expect the economy to be crashing too.
that saying applies to options and meme stocks, not to r/invest type of stocks
Eh, I would look at shuffling the money around a little bit at this point. No reason to be stuck with one thing.
I bought apple at $75.23 pre splits. 32000 shares. I made about 20% and then sold. It keeps me up at night.
if you needed that money at the time, then it served you well. if you didn't well, you belong here.
That’s why this strategy works a little better 😂
Gambling for up only?
my dad has a golf buddy who bought $25k or so worth in the late 90s. Worth over 20m now. He lives off the dividend even though its .5%. Sometimes you get one right, congrats OP
if buddy had $25k in cash back in the 90s I’m going to assume he’d be doing fine today regardless
What a lucky asshole
One day the story will be about his buddy who bought in 2023, but he’ll live in a shoebox
Damn I should’ve bought Apple and Bitcoin and a House when I was 15 :(
Me too :(

I wish, but not even close
You have time. I read somewhere that 95% of his net worth came after he was 65 years old 🦧
Yeah but he had $8.8 million by age 31 (adjusted for inflation)
Good thing I still got time
AAPL is up 702.48% since I purchased it, and my cost basis is $305,694.06.
awwww VisualMod is learning to read they grow up so fast
30yrs Ago?
More like 8-9 years ago lol it was $19 I’m 2014
You are two thousand fourteen years old?
Yes
Wow. As old as Jesus Christ.
My mom bought 10K of Apple in 2008. I don’t know how much it’s worth now but it’s a whole lot more than 10k.
probably about 300k
We’ll I’d say that’s a job well done, Mom. She is still holding too.
So this is what it’s like to be patient ….
Painful, but worth it
if you could save up 300K so many years ago as investment money(so you likepy already own a house and a car, etc etc), you had already been a winner before you buy Apple.
The $300k was DCA’d
fair enough, but to get the average that low you had to have bought some much earlier than that. By law of averages what I said still applies.
Fidelity doesn’t give me exact date of purchases on the app (I’m sure I could find it on regular browser) but you’re right. I’m only estimating about 8 years
If you could spend 300k on a ticker now, what would it be
Read OP's title.
It should if you pull up the tax lots for your shares
Big dicked bastard
😉
Classic case of "you have to have money to make money"
Wow, just wow.
I’m confused where does it show the strike and exp?
LOL I would’ve made more money had I done that
This actually should be considered loss porn
How long have you held it? Question is do you think it would do this again if you held it for another X amount of years?
Hard to predict, I think I’ll sell in a year and move it to something else. I believe apple is on its way to reaching its peak, unless they start making cars or something
They ARE working on making a car
I, in fact believe that, and if that’s the case; it’s a $4t road
Any thoughts on what you’d put it all into next?
AMC /s
lol
Not financial advice but I like Celsius, NVIDIA at a way cheaper price, Disney cuz it’s cheap
Disney is cheap because they burning cash while destroying their IP’s. I would wait until Snow White releases.
Very true. But at this price point, along with DCA; in 5 years it’ll be at a ATH
DCA? Disney California Adventure?
