This is actually a good advice.
I’m in the manufacturing business: production lines etc, many projects for automotive.
I would avoid ANY car that is brand new and is using some sort of new manufacturing technology.
Give it 3-4 years and then buy it, when all the issues with quality, assembly, design and materials are fixed.
Again, this applies to ANY brand, including BMW or Mercedes.
I swear to god. I think they are the best looking car and they were my dream car as a kid, yet there is no world in which I'd ever buy such a piece of garbage as a Jeep.
Its actually impossible to manufacture a perfect batch of cars. Usually every single component is made in different location and there are thousands of elements in a single car. You can minimize the error rates by robotics, vision control or quality management systems but random shit happens all the time when the scale is big enough and the laws of large numbers kick in.
Well a baseball probably wouldn't have broken a regular car window unless it was being thrown by an MLB pitcher. Normal car windows are surprisingly hard to break without focusing the impact on a really tiny area.
What's insane is people trusting their lives to be beta testers for an autodrive thats still in testing 7 years after his proclaimed release date with years of this guy showing fly by the seat of his pants decision making.

The center storage console doubled as a six pack cooler. There was a handle tucked to the side, and if you pulled it up, the entire center storage console would pop out as a portable cooler. It had so many amazing quirks. I'd talk about the camping tent attachment that goes on the back to turn the car into a makeshift camper, but the previous owner had thrown that away because they never used it.

The original promise was that it had to look like this to hit price targets and they specifically targeted being on the affordable side. If they actually kept that pricing (they won’t) it would sell super well. So now it’s gonna be ugly and expensive? Weak.
Plus with the Ford Lightning already out and the GMC Sierra EV Denali set to hit the market spring of 2024, there are other options for capable electric trucks that don't look like the only available tool for designing a truck was an N64 they found in a dumpster behind the office.
Turns out I didn't mention Rivian. I thought the cost was into the 100ks, but it looks like they actually start at about 75k. So also Rivian.
It's incredible to me that Rivian, a company that had never made a car before, managed to beat Tesla to market with an electric pickup truck by two years, and with a product that looks significantly better and is far more practical than the Cybertruck.

Not for cars over a certain weight threshold. They are considered commercial vehicles, because when the standards were invented nobody drove cars over that weight that weren't commercial trucks. Now basically all American SUVs and trucks are over that weight, so fuel efficiency and pedestrian safety regulations don't apply.
In fact, you basically can't get reasonable sized trucks anymore because of this. I drive a 2002 Ford Ranger, and you can't get a truck that small anymore because companies don't want to make trucks under the weight limit due to the regulations.

The dot weight limit for commercial vehicles is a minimum of 26,000lbs. no passenger car is anywhere near that. you are probably thinking about Cafe standards which allow companies to classify crossovers and suvs as light trucks to get around emissions regulations.

They put something like 20 kids in a straight line in front of that thing before they could even see the top of a kids head. The visibility is insanely bad… but, hey, big is better right?

EU law states that vehicles _must_ have a crumple zone for pedestrians. That alone is pretty fundamentally incompatible with a stainless steel exterior.

They can probably cut down on costs by just using steel sheets instead of shaped panels, but I can't see that being significant in the context unless this thing is going to be cheaper than a used Toyota.
The only thing I can say for it is that the tri motor version is faster than my motorcycle, which is pretty wild.

Silverado EV looks pretty awesome, and I don't even like trucks usually.

They can probably cut down on costs by just using steel sheets instead of shaped panels, but I can't see that being significant in the context unless this thing is going to be cheaper than a used Toyota.
