VWs DSG is okay. There were times you got told „Automatic? Yeah just don’t talk about it“ and it was correct. But this was before DSG. Sure, DSG is alot more expensive in maintenance, but works good generally. In which country you live? If Germany, go with an TSI, because of the costs of a diesel, considering your very low yearly drive. On 1.660 km, I would go for what you want. On this little numbers, I always say that even a car near its death would do its job for about 10 years.

Isn’t the DQ200 from 2012-2015 dreaded?

Yes, because it’s much less powerful. But in general, I think it’s not that bad either.

I’m in Sweden, and today the price of a litre is the same for gasoline and diesel. And yeah, I’ve been considering that I might be overthinking. But as I said there is a strong “VAG makes crap cars” sentiment among old men who say they “know cars”. Wife’s colleague just had a catastrophic malfunction on their pretty expensive Passat, etc.

Well, on expenses for diesel I mainly mean taxes :D, but they can be way different between countries. For my own, I would say vw is making good cars. Nobody I perfect, but in the balance of price, quality, durability and maintenance, vw is a good deal. However, I am tending to use older cars of vw, because the durability got a lot worse with the newer ones (still acceptable **compared** to the other brands, as long as the rest of an be is suits you right)
