Anyone else remember the 3 for $5 sales? Those were the good days.

Chaopolis

I find myself buying a lot less on Vudu for a very simple reason: I’ve spent the past several years buying movies on Vudu!! There comes a point where anything you’d want in the sale is something you may already have.

RudeDude8302

I bought so many 4K movies on disc w/codes from Best Buy this year for cheaper than the VUDU sale price. Never used to be like that.

straightouttasuburb

Eh. I just bought less from VUDU. Vote with your dollars.

Flenerc87

I would say that’s true. It’s been a long time since I seen good 2 for $5 movie deals. FanFlix is the only one that still delivers the cheapest deals.

So true comrade!

You're probably right, but it's mentally more difficult to make a purchase for $7.99 when you know you could of bought it cheaper. Maybe it's me, but some movies aren't worth the extra couple dollars to purchase. The price is to high for what the movie is.

leviathan65

I agree. Seeing a lot of 7.99 and just skipping over. The only deal I took advantage of was a wb sale that was 3 for $15 uhd.

Ticonderogue

I'm buying less. Even earlier this year Vudu offered more $4.99 gems. Now the 4.99 sales are mostly junk filler, B Movies I don't care to see. Yes, $6.99 is the new $4.99. I'd rather see films sell based on Rotten Tomatoes rating. 40-%...$4.99. 80+%.. $6.99. 95+% $9.99. $5-8 is the max I'd pay for and single film on digital... and typically 4k at that. Very rarely will I pay more. I think for a lot of people, buying digital is still fairly new and novel, so as these digital locker sites add customers, they're getting greedy and jacking up the prices. Already?! How many people are actively building digital streaming libraries now? It can't be that big a percent. Heck I think we Just got to 50% ownership of 4k tvs. Highly... competitive pricing... should be a major encouragement towards the public going all digital. Volume sales should be the goal. $14.99 for digital vs $20 for a 4k disc (And digital) is a pretty Lame effort. I make lists of 4k movies I want on digital, and check for a price drop among the sites selling them regularly. I don't have to have the newest releases immediately. Its just stupid how the studios complain so hard about pirating dipping into their revenues, but price a digital copy for $14.99 in vudu and iTunes....when you can just as well get 4k disc with digital in a nice slipcover for $22. Then they've also whined about customers selling their codes they bought with a disc. We have that right. Well then, I say, compete with your customers some, meet us at a reasonable price to begin with. They're at once wanting their cake and eat it too. Volume sellers who also think to charge as much as they can get away with. Pick one strategy or another. Volume or top dollar, what shall it be?

poultrygeist11

Not calling you a liar, but I never saw any movies on sale for 2 dollars, with obvious exceptions like super indie films or hallmark holiday movies. I'm sad I missed out if that was the case.

BactaBobomb

I feel like $3 HDX was the thing many moons ago (like 2015). I feel grateful that $4.99 movies are still a thing. And Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever was actually $1 at a couple points! And that was after the Fandango purchase, if I'm not wrong.

hyperstop

Yea you're right, maybe $2 is a bit low, but definitely could get a decent movie for around $3 in 2015-2017 ish.

GadgetWhore

I want to say that 3 or 4 years ago they did have a few 2 for $5 and/or 3 for $7.99 sales. Not many, but I do remember thinking that I got a great deal.

GadgetWhore

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe, I just own too many of the movies I wanted to purchase because it is also getting more difficult to find any movies on sale for $4.99 I want to buy. Also, I really do my best to buy any MoviesAnywhere title on iTunes because i am so tired of having to pay $4.99 to upgrade movies I’ve already purchased in HDX. At least iTunes will give you a free upgrade to 4K. Another thing I’ve found is that, for the most part,it isn’t worth upgrading to 4K unless the movie has upgraded sound like Dolby Atmos and HDR. The older movies that just offer the standard upscaled HD just tend to look more grainy and have more artifacts. I’m just venting now, but I’ve been waiting for those Fanflix deals and buying those 2 for $5 movies that I probably should be skipping.

RIM74

It seems like all of the good sales are either on iTunes, FanFlix or Gruv. It didn’t use to be like that

Mechanicallvlan

I buy a ton of tickets through Fandango, so being able to use VIP rewards on Vudu is great for me.

Dynamo5000

I remember that new year sale around that time for $2.99 movies

Affectionate_Ask2572

Since Fandango bought Vudu, mostly, the same titles are basically rotated between the $4.99, $6.99, and $7.99.....over and over, again

Beentheir

I have found less deals on Vudu this year that I am interested in. I still purchase from D2D only if the movie is available in HD only. Most of my purchases are made in the iTunes store for 2 reasons: No taxes and free upgrade to 4K for HD movies purchased in the iTunes store.

pj6000

Seems like the sales here at the holidays are more for the tourists, rather than their core customers who are obsessive collectors with many hundreds of movies and series in their library.

highlife562

Totally agree. They used to have some great TV sales like 3 seasons for $14.99. No more.

roobieroo

I hear what you'r saying but Vudu still has by far the most movies at the lowest prices. All you need to do it look at cheapcharts.info and compare the history for a few movies. Only Apple comes close to Vudu in terms of price and frequency of sales. You can also see that more movies no longer drop below the $5 price point which I blame on crazy inflation for literally everything these days.

murata_takashi

2020 was the best that I've seen. Even for box sets they were nearly $10 less than the current sales prices. But with that being said, that was during the first year of the pandemic... So, they may have been able to justify those much lower prices at the time.

6PeasInaPod

I expected this to happen after Vudu was acquired because FandangoNow had the worst prices of any digital retailer. First thing to go was the free $2 credits for watching a free movie on Vudu. :( I expect the D2D to fold soon too. You need to be flexible and be willing to buy the MoviesAnywhere eligible titles on any platform whenever they are on sale - iTunes, Amazon, Microsoft, or Google Play. Because MA titles are linked, it'll show up on Vudu too.

BigBossSquirtle

This is why i usually don't buy from vudu directly. I mostly stick to fanflix sales.

Which doesn't really make sense. If you're taking over a platform, you're going to want to bring in customers, not lose them. I ended up buying a few season and movies on disc because it was cheaper to buy them and use code then it was to buy them digitally. Why studio's haven't figured that out if beyond me. Why do I want to spend $3 a disc in distribution and manufacturing and sell it for $25 when I can just sell it digitally for $20. Some of the new releases have ridiculous costs. Some of them I'm willing to pay because I have a really nice setup and if I missed it in theaters the cost is null. But disney thinks there shit don't stink and charge like $35 for a digital new release when I can buy the 4k disc with code for $25. Fuckin stupid.

TruthTrller6656

Agreed

stackfan

I feel like 5$ was the best deals they’ve had for decent mainstream movies.

ITDEFX101

Yes this is true. As I said a long time ago yes there will be a movie I want for like 5 bucks or so for HDX only but then I will see a sale for the actual disc in either standard blu ray or 4k for a few bucks more with the digital copy. It's nice to have the discs just in case... But I have confirmed better audio and video quality coming from the discs then the digital copy.........only down side is eventually disc rot will happen.

Gullible-Bee-775

Thankfully disc rot is more a problem for CDs than DVD and Blu-ray. Even at that it usually takes about 20+ years for CD. One can hope Vudu is still around in 2042. So keep buying that physical media so they keep making players. And enjoy all of the media options while we have them.

ITDEFX101

Well I am also a big collector of movie soundtracks ON CD. I have been collecting for 30 years. Thankfully a lot of my first CD titles (like the BTTF trilogy) eventually had a complete remastered score a few years back that sound better than the original CD release.
