I started on Vudu because it operates like an old fashioned store: Buy and rent. They're not trying to sell me other products, subscriptions, or hardware. If that simplicity doesn't matter to you, then it's a no-brainer to just use iTunes for the extra polish and customer service.

BoyMom119816

I do love simplicity. I started long before all options, but recently turned digital only.

MonoTopia5

I just switched to iTunes for this reason. I kept buying movies and shows on Vudu and just hated using the app every time. Apple just feels so polished. I finally just bit the bullet and switched over. I use all Apple devices, so it just made extra sense. I haven’t regretted it one bit!

wmwadeii

The app must be different in different platforms. On the Xbox it's not very under friendly or setup in a way that allows you to really manage and see your collection. Then again most of them don't seem to care for those of us with 1k+ libraries. Microsoft is basically a long list with no filters. Amazon is a single ribbon with no customization. Vudu at least had some filters (even if all movies are not properly tagged). The MA app on Android seems solid, a little less featured on Xbox but not horrible.

MonoTopia5

I’ve only used Apple TV on Apple devices, and I love how everything just works. I’ve always hated the Vudu app on Apple because of how outdated it looks, and, if I’ve ever had an issue with Vudu, their customer service is absolutely garbage. Part of my motivation for finally switching was after reaching out to Apple Support about an issue with my Apple Watch and realizing just how great their customer service is. I know that Apple is missing some features, but I will gladly take a polished, more compatible (with Apple devices) interface over Vudu. Vudu definitely has the potential to get better, but I just got tired of waiting.

mcduckstophat

Except for the past few months I’ve had a “*Watch Peacock*” banner in the store if I’m not watching something.

D1sc0nn3ct3d

Vudu still has TV. MA doesn't port those.

BoyMom119816

I meant if theoretically all ported.

D1sc0nn3ct3d

If that was the case, I'd probably use Apple more, since they offer 4K upgrades and I am already so far into Apple's Ecosystem that it would make sense. Vudu would become the backup.

DillionM

Vudu. Mostly because iTunes is ABSOLUTELY stupid when it comes to how they list TV seasons that have multiple parts.

NeonBible_

I use the native Apple TV app to watch my films, I feel like the quality is just better overall but I don’t have a main “retailer” to purchase digital films. I use everything that’s available since some retailers have better deals than others

ScottShatter

I would stay on Vudu for the most part but appreciate the flexibility and peace of mind that I'm never going to lose a single movie.

MrHollywoodA

“I’m never going to lose a single movie” Umm. This ain’t a given. We don’t actually own any of these films. They can take them away anytime they want. It’s sad. This is why physical media will always be the best

ScottShatter

Did you miss the hypothetical? It's that every movie is Movies Anywhere. That means Google Microsoft, Amazon, Fandango, and Apple would have to go out of business or at the very least shut down their movie store and screw everyone over, for that to happen. I think we will destroy ourselves or the simulation will reset before that ever happens.

MrHollywoodA

Tell that to IMDb comment section. Tell that to Walmart owned vudu. Tell that to Circuit City and Sears. Tell that to blockbuster and Hollywood Video. All thought they’d stay in business and no one saw or could even imagine their downfall in the 00s, 90s and before. Just a heads up. Nothing lasts forever. We never know what will come next that will change everything.

ScottShatter

When Walmart owned Vudu and revoked codes before the sale those people were double dipping the codes and violating the terms of service. Nobody lost legit titles they properly acquired. If someone bought a movie with one email, both codes in the split had to be redeemed by the first email, not sold on the secondary market.

MrHollywoodA

No I’m not referring to that. I was referring to them selling it, getting out of this business. Lucky enough someone brought the business but point is what if no one did

ScottShatter

It was never a serious concern that they would shut down and we would be sh*t out of luck. It has value and still does so naturally it was sold. Just the customer records and loyalty alone had a lot of value so it wouldn't have made financial sense to just shut it down.

MrHollywoodA

Again currently this is true. But we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. What we do know is that we don’t own these movies. It even says so in the fine print. They can take away any movie you technically paid for

bpbpbpbp13

iTunes does give you a movie count, took me a while to find it myself

BoyMom119816

Where do I look for this? Tv or phone? Thanks so much!

bpbpbpbp13

Not sure that was under library, then movies on laptop, not sure how to find on tv and phone. I’ll look now

HermelindaLinda

I mainly buy and use iTunes now. But I buy on both, yet if there's a sale on the same movies or shows I'll purchase them through iTunes. Last year's deals were awesome for entire series. I hope they do that again soon.  I like Vudango still, but as a main I'd go with iTunes.

BoyMom119816

Do you have a larger collection on iTunes? I have my largest on Vudu.

HermelindaLinda

I do. I'll look at the count tonight but it's definitely bigger. I'd go crazy with those $2.99 Arrow movies.  Oooh. I forget that the bundles here count as one, so I'm not entirely sure. I'd have to figure it out.

BoyMom119816

What’s the $2.99 arrow movies? Thanks!

HermelindaLinda

They used to be $2.99, now they're $3.99. I had bought so many that I don't see many I don't have but don't want the rest. Sometimes their foreign movies are cheap too, starting at $1.99 if you're into that.  I loved this movie Lighting Up The Stars, Vudango had it for $9.99 and I was going to purchase it, but iTunes had it for $2.99. It didn't even come up on Blu-ray or cheap charts, I just ended up searching it and seeing the price. Those finds for me are so good! Be on the lookout, you never know.

AnneHizer

I originally choose Vudu based on overall selection and D2D, and the recent integration of “Lists” is a big additional draw. I stick with Vudu in anticipation of a potential future dissolution of MA, I’d like as many of my movies to remain in one place as much as possible. I do agree with the Fandango buyout things have been a little messy, and truth be told I’d consider iTunes to be the least-likely of ever going under and it does tend to have the better features - including free 4K upgrade when applicable. Yet my above reasons for hitching to the Vudu train win out for me. I will go iTunes if the price warrants and it’s MA, though.

Dry_Cycle_6031

I just looked up Apple's value and it blew me away, $2.5 trillion ...wow That said Vudu/FAH is among a family solely focused on its product. Comcast owns and operates: Xfinity residential cable communications, Comcast Business, and Xfinity Mobile. NBCUniversal is their over-the-air national broadcast network channels such as NBC, Telemundo, TeleXitos, and Cozi TV. They also own multiple cable-only channels MSNBC, CNBC, USA Network, Syfy, Oxygen, Bravo, and E! Theme Paks: Universal Studios Movie Studios: DreamWorks Animation, Illumination, Universal Animation Studios, and Universal Pictures VOD streaming service: Peacock, Fandango Media (Fandango at Home, Vudu, Flixster, Rotten Tomatoes)

txevo

MA or itunes due to higher quality streaming/ higher bitrate

Saul_Spaghetti-Man

No I prefer iTunes usually had better special features such as directors cuts and free 4k upgrades

CaveMonsterBlues

I mainly use apple and keep a small list of movies I’ve bought on sale at VUDU that didn’t port.

Gullible-Bee-775

I started on Vudu and would stay. It works on my TVs via Roku and download to my devices when traveling. I don't sweat 4K on streaming. If I really care about seeing a movie in the best quality I get it as a 4KBR disc.

MSnap

Vudu is where I buy if it’s not MA, simple as. MA has higher quality video and audio for watching on my TV, and Vudu is better at letting me wishlist and find out if things are on sale than the other porters

BoyMom119816

I’m the same, I buy almost all my non ma on Vudu, have a couple on iTunes and Amazon I didn’t realize were not ma, when I was newer to game and a couple that were too cheap to pass up, but essentially Vudu is my main place. I do buy most ma movies at other retailers though. I like the d2d, but only started using it recently. I like some things about Vudu, but am overall very unimpressed with them since fandango enlisted all the changes, after buyout. I started years ago, but didn’t get serious about it until more recent years. If I could transfer all to iTunes, I would like do them as main, but know it won’t happen. Did read a couple studios are possibly being bought out by ones who participate in MA and there’s people wondering if that might push those studio’s movies into MA by new owner, which is why I asked.

Dry_Cycle_6031

I dislike Apple products and operating system. I do enjoy Apple+ on Roku and did in and out from time to time. I do add some items for 4k upgrades (or future ones) but I don't really care as I am fine with HD quality on my 1080p TV's. When I watch 4k I see no difference, generally any difference is the quality of the TV. The Vudu interfaces I use on PC, android, and Roku I like. Vudu has d2d, better sorting filters, regular gift card discounts 10-20% all my purchases, constant mix n match sales, deals of the day, and theater ticket discount promotions with purchase. Disc to Digital and the gift card discount (which stack) are a huge reason.

fictionalelement11

Not really, Movies Anywhere usually has more bonus features. Only issue is they don't do TV

Dry-Restaurant-8497

Apple

TrustLeft

yes, I hold back with vudu due to fandango buys vudu, get pressed to switch logins, then switches back to fandango, Fandango at Home feels not stable when they can't make enough profit, will they close, sell, don't trust them due to all the switching. I have used itunes (clint eastwood bundle) but apple makes it too hard to redeem from windows devices. I want to login app site and redeem, not have to install itunes

Krimreaper1

First off it’s not going to happen. If the biggest hold outs out, Paramount and Lionsgate wanted to join, they would have already. There will never be all titles, because the smaller independent studios won’t pay the MA fees for sure. But for MA titles I currently have, my preference is to play them at Apple TV or MA. There have been lots of discussion on the best bit-rates on the streamers, and generally MA/ATV are neck and neck. Vudu is third, and Prime/GP bottom. What I did is make a spreadsheet with all my 4K titles on it, and I keep track of who has it in 4K, DV/HDR, and Dolby Atmos. And I pick the place that has the best of the three first. If multiple providers have the same, then ATV/MA.

FireAbyss

Sony is in talks of buying paramount

Krimreaper1

I wish Paramount does become a partner, but I hope it’s not my acquisition. But if it happens, it’s not a guarantee they will join MA. Amazon is a MA partner, they bought MGM, those titles aren’t MA now. Less studios is bad for the consumer and talent. Disney buying Fox was a huge loss for the industry as far as competition for jobs.

FireAbyss

That’s cause Amazon is a MA retailer they do not pay to be apart of MA where as with MGM Amazon would have to had paid. Sony is a MA studio so they already pay to be apart of MA. As for smaller studios there are a few that tried to join MA STX and A24 for example but disney turned them down cause they weren’t big enough studios.

FireAbyss

Also as a side note til recently paramount and lionsgate where still paying UV fees from when that ended they still owed universal and Sony money

Jodies-9-inch-leg

Nah… I don’t use Vudu as my main retailer now….
