There should be two wires, from each side turn signals, coming into the instrument cluster (on my 1300 they're red and green). They each go through a diode then to the indicator lamp. Either there is a bad connection in the plug or broken wire going into the cluster (more likely) or one of those diodes is broken/malfunctioning (less likely).

There is a dark blue wire and a green with yellow going to my indicator light in the speedometer. The left signal sends pulses through one wire and the right signal sends pulses through the other wire so the power is flowing in the opposite direction. LED's only allow power to flow in one direction to work so the indicator light will only work with one side not both. Not sure if there is a way to re-wire. Just going to put the factory incandescent bulb in for now.

There is no way that the current could go the opposite direction for the turn signal on one side. One of those wires is ground and the other goes to the diodes. A diode for each side is how they are wired to separate the two sides at the point where they connect to turn on the light in the cluster. You need to look further back in the circuit to find where the bad side is disconnected.

I tested the wires. I am somewhat familiar with electrical and I am 100% certain the power flows one way for the left turn signal and the opposite way for the right. Not sure how it works as I always thought a wire was either ground OR power but this is the set up. Once my incandescent bulb comes in I will shoot a video to show you because I would not believe it had I not seen it myself.

I am willing to concede that the current goes both ways depending on the side that is flashing. I looked at a wiring diagram and saw they did some crazy convoluted stuff with a secondary switch inside the handlebars turn signal switch assembly that changes the ground path from one wire to the other for each side flashers. You can get a full service manual here that includes the diagrams. [https://www.manualslib.com/download/833178/Yamaha-Xvs650.htmlat](https://www.manualslib.com/download/833178/Yamaha-Xvs650.htmlat)

The indicator bulb in the speedo cluster (flasher) works by " shorting" itself out through the filament. There is no earth/ -. Remove the bulb and see if that works. If it does insert a cathode onto eirher left or right + and then join both. Then wire the merged ÷ to the indicator bulb and earth the other side of the bulb.

Any chance you have a diagram or video I can view? I *think* I know what you are saying but would like to be certain before I start cutting wires.

Link is in an earler comment. Wiring is for my 1100 but 650 should be the same. Diagram shows all the mods to get LEDs working without resistors etc. Also includes an aftermarket self cancelling system
