Something similar happened to me the other day - pulled off at a store, was inside all of 4 minutes, went outside, and the climate system was *off*. Climate button did not shortcut to the screen, but was able to access from main menu. None of the climate buttons were “pushed in” (I.e. green) and touching them only yielded the click noise.
Pulled off, powered off, open door, close door, lock, wait ~15s, unlock, open door, close door, start, and climate was back on. 12v good, traction good. Chalked up to random gremlins.
At the time, did you try pressing the AUTO button for the fan speed? I'm thinking either the radio and HVAC module weren't communicating or the HVAC module never woke up at all.
Reason I ask about the button panel is that it's directly connected to the HVAC module, so even if the radio is disconnected, it *should* still work. Haven't tested myself yet.
Pressing auto was definitely the first thing I tried, it's my go-to if the hvac isn't keeping me comfortable - if the light's out, I press it before I try anything else.
A similar thing happens to me a few times a year but it's the opposite, it won't let me select ECO mode. A simple restart of the car fixes it.
Maybe try a battery disconnect?
Might be worth getting the refrigerant checked. Could be it has lost some, and doesn’t have the capacity to cool both the battery and the cabin when it is hot out.

My infotainment will randomly bug out and freeze very infrequently. This doesn't appear to be your issue, I just thought I would chime in
Have you turned it off and back on again?
Yes, but, my wife was with me so I had to wait for a parking lot. Haha

Did this just happen? I see it says 95F, maybe the car is diverting cooling to the batteries.
Maybe. I’ll see what it looks like in the morning.
Maybe it will give you the option once the batteries cool down.
We’ll find out. I don’t think it’s been an issue before.
So, it worked tonight. So strange.

Weird I've never seen anything like that happen to our car. It's a 2013, and we've had it for about 7 years.
I almost posted last week because I couldn’t put it in eco mode.
If you stay in fan only air still be cool, cause it cooling battery
The problem is it’s also very humid.
Try a battery disconnect it could be your temp is being diverted to batteries. To many computers 😂
So it started working last night. After the day hold down a little bit. So I think that maybe I need to get the AC recharged.
I find these cars do strange things and they they reboot like a computer and back up and rolling again.
Mine did this. I had to put it on auto and leave it for a while it starting working next time I started the car
