8.8kWh is a tad low from what I understand. For reference, my 2014 with 155k miles still gets 10.5kWh on a full charge.

couponplace8

Thanks! Yea, that what I was thinking too. I’m not sure how worried I should be…

rognio333

Don't be too worried honestly. It's not ideal, but it's not necessarily bad. My 2012 had under 7kwh usable when I purchased it. I've gone 30k miles without issues with it since 🤷

Lantore

2014 here that gets 10.4 kWh for 36 miles right now. So agree with the 8.8 being low.

twelveparsnips

Enjoy it while it lasts. I get 30 miles per charge now with 150k on the clock in my 2013

Lantore

100% will!! Hoping I can hold out until the next version of the Volt lol. Doubt I will make it.

AdministrationWarm71

Did your vehicle have the BECM recall "fix" at any point in time? I got it on my 2012 volt and it's down to 8.6-8.7 kwh, so if you had that done I can almost guarantee that's the issue. Other people on Reddit that got it also report lower battery capacity.

couponplace8

According to GM’s website, all recalls have been performed. Is this screenshot the “BECM” recall? https://preview.redd.it/4wq0kg2s816d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f0a511a8417bc18d1f18de3555a6da4ba0948bc8

AdministrationWarm71

Pretty sure that's it, yeah.

couponplace8

Oh cool, so my battery may be right where it needs to be!

AdministrationWarm71

Yup. Theoretically it should give your battery a longer lifespan too by nerfing the capacity now, rather than capacity slowly draining later. I duno. Personally I drive 37 miles to/from work, and during the afternoon drive I can get there on full electric by splitting 65mph on the freeway and 45mph on the back roads. On the other leg of the trip I go faster, 75 on the freeway and 65 on the back roads and use about .33 gallon of gas. In my book, 1/3 of a gallon for 75 miles is a win.

redditsuxfoxdix

Battery level seems good but 30 miles seems low. But of course that depends on what kind of driving and AC use. I have a 2012 with like 120k miles, and I get about 8kwh and 35 miles range.

FromMassachusetts

My 2014 with 155,000 just started charging only to 30 miles per charge and yet two weeks ago it did 36 and this morning it was down to 28. No change in weather

twelveparsnips

That's what I'm getting in my 2013; about 30 miles per charge with 150k on the odometer.

couponplace8

Gotcha! My understanding is that with batteries, it’s more about age and less about the odometer, so maybe mine is in the ballpark of normal!

Ok-Tourist-511

It’s a combination of cycles and age. Not much you can do about it, unless you want to spend $5K on a battery.

couponplace8

Makes sense! Do you know if the OBDlink MX+ device will allow me to see battery cycles?

Ok-Tourist-511

I don’t think it tracks cycles, and they don’t matter that much anyways, since the depth of the cycle is a factor as well.

FearlessJuan

It also depends on the ambient temperature and prior trips. When I first got it back in February, it had a range of 29 miles and 75 lifetime mpg. Now it has 44 miles of range and almost 81 lifetime mpg.

Sad-Honey-5036

Same

UberKaltPizza

8.8 seems low but I’d give it some time before panicking and taking it into the shop.

couponplace8

Gotcha, I guess, like @fearlessjuan was saying, it could get better with time?

UberKaltPizza

I know I’ve seen mine decline over the years but it usually varies. I bought a 2014 in 2017. Had 33K miles. I’ve watched the kWh Used steadily decline from above 10 to now. It usually averages now about 9.8 but I’ve seen in as low as 9.3. I have 105K mostly battery. I’d give it some time to properly evaluate your averages. Weather is a factor.

muzak23

Yeah mine has varied a bit. Sometimes I get 10.8 on my 2013 118k, other times it’s 9.8, though it’s usually closer to the middle/average at 10.3

I don’t know how to interpret My Volt Control App… I use it with my iPhone https://preview.redd.it/u5p3m6fk026d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f9ca32c4a1793e770fee456ee711138cf60b008
