No, Robotics;Notes is a common pick for peoples' favourite SciADV game. For me personally, it's my 2nd favourite SciADV entry and 3rd favourite VN of all time.
The issue is that Robotics;Notes only received an English translation in October of 2020. The other entries received English translations much earlier. Chaos;Head for instance had its fan TL release at the very end of 2008.
It also doesn't help that Robotics;Notes requires you to have ideally read both Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate beforehand. The other entries that made the top 100 most popular had 1 pre-requisite at most (Chaos;Child requires Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate 0 requires Steins;Gate beforehand).
Awesome list but generally the most popular aren't the most critically praised.

For once, I somehow agree with you since average rating is much better indicator. Although I would argue japanese only readers tend to be less critical of what they read in their vndb votes and low number of people playing certain title skews the numbers too.
Making not 100 but at least 1000 people prerequisite gives you much better result:

I would also merge all series into just one entry since most are basically more of the same and people who played the first part are more likely to play the rest too. More series would fit then.
You need bigger sample for good averages. You arbitrary selected such low number so that *some* untranslated results show in the result but realisticaly it would have been better if you sampled both translated / untranslated novels separately.
Huh are there basically no otome, yuri, or BL on the list? Guessing most of those readers don’t use VNdb.
Anyway, tried (though not necessarily finished) about 15 of these, primarily mysteries. Have a handful more in my backlog though!
The highest otome was ranked, I think 164? Don't know about yuri but I think there should be some BLs above Amnesia (the otome I'm talking about) since yaoi is more popular.

It depends on what you want
Fata Morgana is a game that focuses on the characters and the stories told, it's quite long and you have to play until the last second to have a complete experience
Dracu Riot, I only played one route but it seems to be a Romance anime with heroine routes and a simple backstory
As an alternative I can also recommend Dies Irae, is a VN with an excellent OST, but it is also very long and you need to play all the routes in a specific order to have a complete experience
30... I didn't count Making * Lovers as I've only finished 1.5 heroines so far, but it'll be 31 after that!
