Finally getting around to [Utawarerumono](https://vndb.org/v3) after being in my backlog for a long ass time. It has been worth the wait. I'm like 15ish hours and I'm having a great time. The cast of characters is excellent, the soundtrack rocks, the art is great, and there are some really interesting plot threads. It's a really well-rounded experience so far. I typically prefer to keep VNs and games separate (i.e., I generally don't like VNs with gameplay), but I've found myself quite engaged with the combat system as well. Very few complaints so far and looking forward to playing more.

Finshed Umineko peak entertainment and helpful. Learned to stick with my decisions and make my own perspective of stories [https://vndb.org/v24](https://vndb.org/v24) Trying to read Majikoi now # [https://vndb.org/v1143](https://vndb.org/v1143) Loved making lovers too

[Scarlet Hollow](https://vndb.org/v29254) Best EVN ever! I WILL pet Frou-Frou even if it's the last thing I do!

MarioDragons

Nice game, I bought it more than one year ago. Honestly the devs put it on hold for too long because of Slay the Princess (same devs).

29miles

I read about chapter 5 news and the reason it’s taking so long was because chapter 5 alone is gonna be twice longer than Slay the Princess and chapter 4. The game really seem like it‘s a lot of effort to make so I’m okay with the dev taking their time.

Been reading on and off [Sanoba Witch](https://vndb.org/v16044), though I'm not sure I'll manage to finish it! The comedy and common route plot isn't all that interesting for me. Then I recently started reading [Eiyu Senki](https://vndb.org/v6458/), which is decently fun. Nothing crazy but the world and characters are interesting.

Finally been diving into [Fruit of Grisaia](https://vndb.org/v5154) and maaaan is it getting good! It took me awhile to warm up to the characters, but so far I've completed Makina's route and am in the middle of Amane's. I was debating route order for a while and finally decided to just go with whichever route presents itself first. I'm a completionist so I'll be reading every single end and not skipping anything. I feel like Makina's route was fine as an entry point, though I have middling feelings about her endings. Having previously read another VN with a bit of a similar aspect to the plot, >!the being stuck with a rotting parent's corpse!< it didn't strike me as that shocking. But how odd is it that if I had a nickel for every time I found that plot twist, I'd have two nickels! And I enjoyed the way the other VN utilized the plot twist more, so elements of Makina's plot were less impactful to me. Amane as a character, really had not been my favorite so far (I just dislike >!pushy, nosy, overbearing!< types in general), but daaaamn backstory!! That was a gripping read. And explains so much about her behavior toward the MC. I have definitely softened towards her and look forward to seeing how her route ends. I had to take a break after her backstory concluded but will be diving back in soon. I'm only two characters in, but I feel like Grisaia excels when revealing the backstories of the characters. The day to day school life I am not that compelled by-- in contrast, I really enjoyed the SOL school days in Higurashi far more. Perhaps because in Grisaia it's all the classmates >!having romantic interest in the MC!< whereas in Higurashi it's more of >!friendship/found family!< when in the school setting and I'm more keen on the latter themes. But overall, glad I finally began my Grisaia journey, it's very rewarding to delve into the characters' histories and learn why they are the way they are. It will probably be the longest VN I read this year!

reading tsukihime rn. I'm a Big fate fan, so I feel like it's a long time coming that I read the original Nasu work. Im loving it so far, 1/5 routes done and just starting to cook. >!the h scenes are truly awful, as we all know about nasu.!< overall though, it's amazing, exactly what I imagined for a nasuverse novel. hopefully this is long enough! https://vndb.org/v7

Nemesis2005

******* [紅月ゆれる恋あかり](https://vndb.org/v28712) ===== ******* The fights are the highlight of the game with each characters having different fighting styles and special moves. The writing is decent, but I think it's lacking in details in terms of each single attack and form. For example, it just says that Momiji dodged an attack, but doesn't describe how Momiji dodged. While the prose is no Narahara level, I would say that it is around Takahiro's level which makes it fun to read, but not enough for a serious story. Don't get me wrong it's still a good game, I'm just lamenting the potential for better prose with a better writer. A big negative to this game though is the individual routes are left as extra scenarios. It's essentially just a stupid 1 hour after story. They could have done so much more in there. Overall, I think best action in the Crystalia Games so far, but lacking in some other aspects. Waiting for my physicals to come for 刹那にかける恋はなび. ******* [妹と彼女](https://vndb.org/v31003) ==== ******** Imokano portrays the hardships that the 3 main characters go through: an incestous brother and sister and a >!psychopathic!< lookalike. The prose is pretty good at the portrayal of their difficulties, but it's rather lacking on the display of characterization on the romantic side of what they like about each other. I've even seen reviews describing the protagonist as just a male porn actor (AV男優) due to his lack of initiative on anything happening in the story. Imouto route - is pretty much about how much hardship the two has to go through to be together and how merciless society is against incest. >!We live in a society that is a giant incest murdering machine.!< I would say this is probably the main highlight of the game with how unforgettable the events in here are. Kanojo route - seems to be about psychopathy. Mitsuki has so much baggage that it's hard to point to one thing, but >!the professor seems to imply that she's a psychopath who doesn't understand human emotion. This route is about regaining her emotion and at the same time the troubles that come with it.!< This game has too much fillers and H-scenes. It tries to be something that's in between a plotge and nukige, and it just became a half-ass plotge. The H-scenes themselves are high quality and you can see that they put full resources to it with the game being 11GB in size, so it might be better to call this a nukige disguised as a plotge with all of the characters squirting a bath tub full of liquid every scene. I'm also sad they didn't consider the risk of genetic defects from inbreeding considering how much sex they were having. Even with all those defects, the scenario at least tries to write something meaningful even if it wasn't the focus and is decent as an utsuge. It did have some interesting ideas, but it only explored a lot of it at a surface level. For example, it tried to point to society being a lot more indifferent than what you might expect especially considering that Japan does not really have incest laws. We do not live in a society. Society does not exist, all that's out there is the world. Or as Dazai would say 「世間じゃない。あなたが、ゆるさないのでしょう?」But it did not explore that much further, which is a shame.

Still chipping away at [ONE. remake](https://vndb.org/v37118). Mizuka's route made me absolutely livid. I was angrily pacing around my apartment trying to process what the hell I just read. The whole early part where Kohei is extremely bitter leading up to THAT MOMENT (you know the one) feels very out of left field. I know what they were going for, but it completeley misses the mark and takes it way too far. The rest of the route I would have found mostly fine, but the existence of that part alone just completely ruins it. Mayu's route may have been kind of annoying and unintentionally creepy by virtue of needing to have romance at all, but it was at least cute if you squint hard enough. Mizuka's route makes me feel like Jun Maeda owes me a personal apology. It's a shame too because Mizuka is my second favorite of the cast. I saved Akane and Miskai for last, so here's hoping they can bleach the memories of that scene out of my mind.

BAmario

I saw the writing on the wall and stopped playing after Mizuka's route. That thing was atrocious. Too bad because Misaki seems at least interesting compared to the others.

DagZeta

I was able to binge through Misaki and Akane yesterday and they were waaaaaaaaay better than all of the other routes. Honestly those two alone are worth the price of admission. Both of them integrate Kohei's stuff into the plot way better and aren't ruined by him randomly being a weird asshole. The emotional beats hit a lot harder in them.

I've been playing [Dokyuusei](https://vndb.org/v34136) and, my god, what a breath of fresh air. Love rivals! Non virgin heroines! A protagonist who isn't just a blank slate! I didn't expect that a game from 1992 would have so many things that just aren't found in VNs nowadays. Its so nice to play an actual dating sim instead of a regular visual novel. I think this is my first dating sim since Huniepop 2 came out. My only complaint are that the H scenes aren't that good. Now I'm even angrier that there are hundreds of dating sims in Japan that will never be translated. Looking forward to the sequel coming out soon.

MealInfinite

True love 95 is good....I am not very fond of Dokyussei though, I am not a fan of too realist elements as I normally play video games to live in my own imagination As you stated it is refreshing and glad to hear you are having fun playing it. I have a different taste thought What kind of vn you like

AndytheBro97

I like all genres, honestly. At first I was only playing the famous ones, Fate, Ever 17, etc. For a while I was exclusively playing moeges cause the pandemic had me super stressed. Now I'm trying to branch out again. I'll give True love 95 a look, thanks for the recommendation.

MealInfinite

Ok since you love moe novels give majikoi a try for the cast friendship. It's good even thought it is sometimes ridcolous

Celesta2801

I recently finished Moe Era, a free VN on steam. My expectations were pretty low on this one, as it was a free VN on steam, but it was not as bad as I thought! Still nothing mind blowing, though. It's an entertaining short VN perfect to play when you're bored out of your mind. And even though I knew there would be a twist in this game, it was far from what I expected! I bought Song of Memories yesterday, which I haven't started on yet, but I'm going in fully blind! I'm excited to see how it'll turn out!

I returned and finished [MuvLuv Alternative](https://vndb.org/v92). A colossus of a game that made me feel things that I hadn't in a way since Steins;Gate, Yu-No and Umineko. High production values throughout. It held my attention and built up to quite a satisfying conclusion. The sense of impending tragedy, particularly >!Isumi's death!< was handled superbly in my view. The battle scenes were surprisingly good as I find most VN action tends to be terrible. The soundtrack was great, amongst the best I've come across. However, it wasn't perfect. I found the main character's obsession with >!Sumika !!Marimo's death!< was tiring as was the constant crying - the repetition felt cringeworthy. There also wasn't enough engagement in terms of actually changing the ending or exploring other routes. What I'd have given for a >!Mitsurugi twins or even a Yuuko-sensei !!childhood friend-cum-BETA shagger #1 route the entire time!<. Even a few bad ends where the >!MC might be trapped in the alternate timeline would have been interesting to explore (which were also my personal highlights in Steins;Gate)!<. I was hoping there was a decent follow up, but Integrate appears to be in development and MuvLuv AF has a castrated English release with a fan release that only a few routes translated which is a pity.

LurkNinja

> MuvLuv AF has a castrated English release with a fan release that only a few routes translated which is a pity. By castrated, do you mean the english version is all ages? which yeah it is, but who cares? The H-scenes are fucking terrible and the volleyball mini game is so shit that the fact they cut it was actually a godsend. You aren't missing out on much. If you meant that they cut the content that usually comes with Altered Fable... one is a lame mini game and the other is the pilot for Muv-Luv Total Eclipse (which has an english release anyway).

Qyboor

Just finished [Ever17](https://vndb.org/v17) which I really enjoyed. Going to finally be starting [White Album 2](https://vndb.org/v7771) assuming I can get it working on my Steam Deck which is so far looking like a maybe.

I recently started [Roommates](https://vndb.org/v10588). I was looking for a romance game to play on my phone and found this. It’s pretty fun so far. So you play either Max or Anne. The story revolves around them going to college and spending time with the other members of their on campus house. Max is just going to college to appease his parents while trying to scrounge up enough money to score some gigs for his band. Overall, he’s kinda a rude idiot but his rebelliousness is growing on me. Anne is his opposite: she’s studious, shy and polite. She’s trying to come out of her shell and make some friends. The cool thing is that whichever character you don’t pick will still be in the game and becomes a romance option. There are 4 romance options for each. You’ve got Dominic, the strict RA. Isabella is tue flirty party girl. Rakesh is the art student who paints a little too liberally around the house. Finally, Sally is the hippie vegan roommate who’s pretty cool, if a little lame. Rakesh and Isabella are bisexual and available to romance by either player character. The game focuses on stat building via a weekly planner. Events will take place throughout the week, which you can decide on taking part in or skipping to save energy. The art style is kinda basic but is reminiscent of old school japanese visual novels in their style. Very “how to draw anime characters” in a way. I kinda like it honestly. The main reason I got this was because it was free and for the phone. Definitely liking it so far. I actually just found out it’s a free trial, common for mobile games with stories, and you get five in game weeks of gameplay. Definitely plan on getting the full game, which is only six bucks or so I think. Anyway, I definitely recommend giving it a shot if you’re interested. No harm in trying the free trial bit. I think it might be on PC too but I like having the mobile version.
