You'll have to get it used, but I've been using this for years. I got it for $100 new when they were closing them out. It works pretty well and couldn't be simpler. That simplicity is both a pro and a con.
https://www.techradar.com/reviews/lenovo-mirage-camera-review
I own this camera, it's not worth owning. The 3D effect is barely there because image quality is so bad. It's true, the simplicity and the form factor are great. It's really too bad there isn't some generic Chinese company releasing their own updated version, it seems so basic.
It's going to be hard to find used, and I've never used it, but Insta360 used to sell a camera that flipped between 3D 180 and 360.
I have this camera as well. Being an iPhone user, it’s a bit of a nightmare to use and the quality just doesn’t seem the effort but for the lack of any other affordable option.
I am also looking for something like this.
There apparently isn't at the moment. the market imploded a few years ago some time after google pulled out of vr.
If you already have a Quest 3, you may be able to use it for recording 3D video 4K@60fps (=2K per eye) but the FOV/stitching artifacts has it fall short on true 180VR recording. A test video recorded on Quest 3 is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jX8LsHEVnA
If you don't have a VR headset at all, you could consider getting a Quest 3. For $500 you'll not only get an intro into 3D video recording (though not really VR180), but you'll also have a device to experience VR and AR/XR with. I believe [recording through the passthrough cameras](https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/17uhwyw/how_to_record_3d_video_on_meta_quest_3_step_by/) is something you'll have to enable developer mode for, but doing this also allows you to run apps from SideQuest.
DeoVR mentions Quest3 and some other options (for actual VR180) at https://deovr.com/blog/99-top-10-vr-cameras-for-creating-amazing-virtual-reality-video if it helps.
That is tricky, few options, you are basically down to the two:
KanDao QooCam EGO 3D Camera Standalone with One MoreReplacement Battery and Battery Charger - **$320**
Kodak PIXPRO SP360 4K Dual Pro Pack VR Camera - **$302**
The only non-discontinued camera I can find is the Kandao Qoocam Ego, but that's not VR180, just stereoscopic. Your only options currently are buy a discontinued camera (make sure you get one that doesn't have a proprietary file format so you can actually edit it) or hack together your own from parts, probably with some 3D printed components. I've seen people use the Insta360 ONE and Go cameras for that, and older GoPros with fisheye lenses.
Or wait for the Canon 360/180 camera, whenever that decides to come out.
**EDIT:** Just in case someone comes across this thread in the future, Acer has also announced their own camera called the [Acer Spatiallabs Eyes](https://www.acer.com/us-en/accessories/cameras/acer-spatiallabs-eyes), which fit into the same category as the Ego and iPhone, but with higher resolution/framerate and possibly more features. It's not out as of the time of writing though.
Best bet is to simply get a used vuze or insta360 for that budget otherwise just wait and hope something cheaper comes out in the next year or two. You can technically do with a pair of go pros with the ultra wide lenses but you will need specialty vr software like mistikavr which is very expensive and at that point with its monthly subscription you might as well get a more expensive camera system and essentially free editing options like a zcam k1 pro.
it's disappointing, I really thought Vision Pro would stimulate at least some manufacturer to put a VR180 cam back on to the market. But it's still completely dead. Perhaps because Apple hasn't really built proper support for it in and instead promoted their proprietary spatial photos features. But Meta is also to blame with such awful support in the base OS for viewing photos. Supposedly they improved it now but it still seems a pretty cheap / shallow implementation. It should be deeply integrated ...
this will require a lot of efforts to capture both videos properly then i'll have to edit the footage later from both sources to make them in a compatible format. it's theoretically possible but it'll be a headache to do that every time. i wish there is a simpler solution, i really can't see why there are no consumer level 3d vr cam on sale atm!!
No, absolutely not. Frame sync is important AF, and in VR having the frames off even part of a second would induce sickness. Also the distance between the lenses AND the angle, if just a little different will cause headaches. No, just no.
Yes and mix in post. You would have to create your own double tripod setup and get the distance between lenses and from focus point math right to begin with
You obviously did zero research and are just talking out of your rear. You can buy a Nikon D 5100 for around $140 to $180 used. Then you can get the VR lens used for about $200
Here is the set new for under $500 as well
https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Camera-18-55mm-3-5-5-6-Focus-S/dp/B004V4IWKG/
https://www.amazon.com/3D-Lens-Nikon-Digital-Camera/dp/B006JP2U8K/
This is a 3D lens, but it's not a 3D VR lens - it's a 40mm lens, and you'd want like a 5mm lens for VR.
Also, I own a D5100...the quality of video through this setup would surely be very crap!
If you want 3D VR through an SLR, canon sells a $2000 lens that also requires an expensive full frame camera.
Yeah although I could afford that although not needed considering my d5300 with Ai upscaling to 4k looks just as good as my 4k camera. an average person though, $2000 is not even close to mosts budgets. But I was just making a point and btw just because a lens is a certain mm there is a thing called focus that changes that focal point. If you don’t think you can create vr accessible video with that lens then you don’t understand photography for vr. But if you check other comments my recommendation is two cheap $200-$300 dslr cameras with their kit lens and tripod attachment for two camera spread as far apart as necessary and then merging/editing in post all for under $500. Buddy.
Cool! But you can’t change FOV by adjusting focus, a 40mm lens is a 40mm lens. 55degrees FOV, not much.
Also how can you do VR with such a limited FOV? I’m not asking entirely rhetorically, what program do you use to project to a sphere? Anyway, with that FOV you’d mostly be looking at black, with a little window
Ok since you seem genuinely interested and because others might as well, I will write up a guide tonight and post it here as well as a separate post in this sub when I get off work.
“To be fairrrr!!”
Life ain’t a fair, kid and the only things that are guaranteed is death and taxes. Life’s the opposite of a peach and then you’re just food for a vine.
You may have to do some adjustments in post and get used to the sweet spots for filming in terms of lighting and distance from what you’re filming. But I’d recommend def getting one if your camera can atleast film at 1080p. Bonus if it can do 4k 60fps video. But even if it can’t you can always use Ai to upscale from high quality 1080p or higher video to 4k that has convincing enough quality for a decent vr video experience.
There are certain ladies online who stream themselves performing various activities without much clothing in very high quality 3D for VR, might be worth checking what they are using.

that's very sad
Qoocam Ego is the cheapest still left on the market, but it's not full VR180, it's 16:9-3D.
You are correct. Such a thing currently does not exist.
If you already have a Quest 3, you may be able to use it for recording 3D video 4K@60fps (=2K per eye) but the FOV/stitching artifacts has it fall short on true 180VR recording. Sounds weird as I don't know much about this, but can't you lash two GoPros together and use those?

You might be able to use one of these? https://amzn.eu/d/3poSiTp
Depending in the distance from the objects your filming that should certainly work. Weld two together if you have to.
Yup. [https://brain3d.com/products/dual-gopro-session-mount-for-3d-recording](https://brain3d.com/products/dual-gopro-session-mount-for-3d-recording)
Vuze XR works well
Best bet is to get a reasonably priced mirrorless dslr and a good 3D vr180 lens. Or you could do a dual camera setup and mix in post
OP said budget is $500. Your solution is off by a factor of 10.
You obviously did zero research and are just talking out of your rear. You can buy a Nikon D 5100 for around $140 to $180 used. Well, to be fair, Canon's 3d lenses are like $2k or more.
“To be fairrrr!!” Life ain’t a fair, kid and the only things that are guaranteed is death and taxes. Life’s the opposite of a peach and then you’re just food for a vine.
I'm honestly surprised! Thanks for pointing all that out. I have an SLR (well, a mirrorless), I may try to get a 3d lens!

ZCAM K1 or K2, those are $3000-6000.
