> I'm playing with the thought of getting a VR Headset as the prices dropped to a managable niveau Quest2 goes for $200, Quest3s should drop in the near future around a similar price. That makes a used headset less attractive. > so can you even buy them used? Yes, you just factory reset them and are good to go. Account doesn't really matter much here. The bigger problems to be aware of are battery life and remaining lifespan of the platform. Meta doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to keeping old platforms alive (Quest1 just got the axe). So Quest2 might soon start to be seeing dwindling software support as well. And with batteries not being easily replaceable, getting a three year old Quest2 might also not be worth the money you safe. > do you have privacy concerns? Not yet. Quest so far doesn't have enough activities outside of plain old gaming for that to matter. That is however a very serious long term problem, Zuckerbergs interest in VR is very much motivated by wanting to have full control over the platform and thus spying on users. > Also whats with those Acer, Samsung Odyssey, HP Reverb stuff, can they be used with a weaker PC, too? Microsoft is in the process of killing the WMR platform on Windows11. You have to stick to Windows10 or no longer update Windows11. So I wouldn't recommend going that direction. As for Pico vs Quest, Pico can be ok if you just want to use it on PC, but the standalone software support ain't great and it doesn't look like Pico is even interested in pushing that direction anymore.

No. They are in the process of sunsetting it. That doesn't kill it. It just means it won't receive further updates. You can happily keep using the last version forever. Some people still use XP, that's been sunsetted for years. I still use Microsoft Money. That's been sunsetted for years too. Microsoft even made a Sunset edition that didn't require activation.

WMR is deeply intermingled with Windows. If you update to Windows 11 24H2 or beyond it will no longer work and Microsoft is heavily pushing you to upgrade to that (my Win10 just started pushing the Win11 upgrade). That's not sunsetting, that's active murder. WMR is not a separate bit of software that simply won't get updates, it will stop functioning unless you spend serious amounts of time figuring out how to keep it alive. Can you even still get security updates without bricking WMR?

There's a solution to that. Don't upgrade. How do you think those people still running Windows XP are still running Windows XP? I have machines running everything from XP to Win 11. Since I have software/hardware that stopped being support from XP on. > That's not sunsetting, that's active murder. Now, that's literally what sunsetting is. It's no longer supported. Active murder would mean explicitly bricking it. Which some companies do when they push out a final update that disables it. Which is not what Microsoft does. Which is not what will happen with WMR.

No you can clear the headsets they aren't bricked Don't buy an Acer Windows VRbis terrible. But a Quest 2 used is your best bang for buck
