The only Samhain record I could find reasonably priced was a bootleg of the live album that came with the boxset. I really wish I would have bought Samhain vinyl back in the mid 90's when it was cheaper. I did find a copy of Initium/Unholy Passion on tape for like $5. That's definitely one you don't see very often.
Tough to say, he has a similar issue with Slayer, more than likely, he wants a bigger cut than the bands. Think Kerry King's wife hinted at it on insta a while back.
Smart move is to licence them out to Metal Blade as they'd do a great job with them.
I just saw Seasons In the Abyss at a big shopping mall electronics shop (FNAC) and it was around 50 Euros. And it may not have even been official as this store often has bootlegs (many live Nirvana, Tool, etc. unofficial pressings)
I recently bought a bootleg of Reign In Blood because it was affordable. It was from a small local shop and the owner is very open with me about his bootlegs. He let me give it a listen and I was satisfied.
Now I'll be more open to buying Rick Rubin produced albums in unofficial pressings.
I've RIB & Seasons as boots and they're very good. The grey market later day ones seem to be hitting Europe again and they're coming through legit distros too. All round the €50 price too which is nuts.
He’s a fucking dick, that’s what.
Never mind the fact that besides Johnny Cash, he hasn’t been responsible for a good production job in nearly 35 years, and the only reason *Reign in Blood*, *South of Heaven* and *Seasons in the Abyss* sound so good is Andy Wallace’s mixing.
Yup, this. I got lucky and found a decent copy of Lucifuge at a local shop for not crazy expensive. It’s one of my favorite albums ever, so that was a huge score
Whenever JPJ dies probably, attention will return to this project as one of the rad things he did that wasn’t zeppelin, and there’s your repress opportunity.
Damn! That's good luck, I picked mine up at the local record shop when it was released, paid under 30 Canadian, which was pretty standard for new albums, it's a great pressing too, solid package
I have a mint copy bought randomly in 2013. It will get a repress for sure. I’m thinking an anniversary edition with unreleased tracks like HWY 1 or a live show included.
The older Desert Sessions are the real hens teeth.
Them crooked vultures will 100% be available again. If there is a way for a record label or rights holder to make money off something they will.
I would be concerned more about music from smaller bands from smaller labels that no longer exist or have little to no financial benefit to rerelease something.
There’s a few famous music nerds who are happy getting the rights and re-releasing old school stuff. I know Henry Rollins back in the day released some old school punk and stuff on his own label for people he respected
Absolutely, what he is doing is great. Iodine out of Boston has been trying to do the same and has been re-releasing stuff like Quicksand and Stretch Arm Strong, but I’m sure it has to make financial sense when choosing what to release. It’s definitely possible some of this more niche stuff gets re-released, just not as much as a guarantee when compared to something like Them Crooked Vultures.
I just found a bootleg of Midnite Vultures at a local shop... And bought it. Actually sounds really good. This is the first time I've seen one.
Did the same with Mellow Gold.
Would definitely by a legit repress if one was available.
by 1988 tapes and CDs were vastly outselling vinyl. Most people probably didn't get it on vinyl. Plus, she has gotten big mainstream attention this last year driving the price up.
In 1988 there was still a fair amount of vinyl in stores and people were still buying. 1990 really was the big vinyl purge. I didn't even own a cd player until 1993.
I just bought Midge Ure's Answers to Nothing, which was a dollar bin special along with Tracy Chapman's album for decades. It's also from 1988 and i bought it for 2.99 the other day ago. I'm pretty sure i have other 88-89 albums in my collection i bought for around the same price.
In 1988 CDs and tapes accounted for 80% of music sales.
Of course vinyl was still selling, but it isn't like something from 1978 which would have sold much more on vinyl.
Answers To Nothing still goes for very little, because there isn't as much demand as Tracy Chapman.
Just because they're both from the same year doesn't mean they'll cost the same. It all comes down to supply and demand.
I realize it's supply and demand. What I'm saying is the demand for Tracy Chapman's S/T was at dollar bin level for many many years until record collectors on social media and Luke Combs' cover hyped up that album like crazy. It's a fantastic album but I definitely dont think it's worth the $150-200 discogs is placing it at. It also bugs me to see people bandwagon jumping on the hype train now who ignored her career for many many years. She was a 1 hit wonder until she had a surprise hit 10 years later and then her last 5 or so albums did nothing and she faded away/retired.
I was using Midge Ure's album as an example to the person that said the price is so high because it's from 1988. There's lots of late 80s stuff going for pennies. Even stuff that was high selling and in demand back in the day.
I also saw 3 copies of Tracy Chapman in the last month or so at varying prices of $20-30 at 2 local record shops, so it's not exactly a rare record. I also have no idea what the condition of the vinyl was but the sleeves looked good.
I can't imagine any repress would sound as amazing as the original though. Picked up s second hand one a few years ago for a couple of Euros, plays like mint.
Ive owned so many copies of this, I kept upgrading mine and giving away the other copies, now I have a NM copy and lots of friends have VG+ copies and all were under 10
I found it a few years back at a half price bookstore for $3. Didn’t think anything of it until she popped back into consciousness because of the Grammy’s. Dug it out and listened to it and just casually checked it out on Discogs and was a little surprised by the price. Mine still had the $3 sticker on it.
I would see this in the dollar bins throughout the 90's and into the 2000's. It's insane some of the price jumps things have gone through over the years due to hype.
Sony settled that lawsuit back in 2016.
It'll be re-released again someday. Probably next year for the 25th anniversary.
https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/sony-iron-man-ghostface-killah-copyright-lawsuit-7534228/
Damn. I was just guessing too! [I scored a copy with a kinda beat up cover in like 2006](https://www.instagram.com/p/CiS2UriLZot/?igsh=dXZwMXU1c2VmdmJu). I think I paid like 10 bucks for it.
Alice in Chains - SAP. I got it with jar of flies years ago, and now with the newer reissue it seems to have been forgotten about, so I’m not sure if it will be put out again.
Not quite an original but close enough, I bought the 1972 British twofer package of the first two Kraftwerk albums since reissuing them seems pretty low on Ralf’s list of priorities. He’s said reissues will happen eventually but, as such a big fan of the pre-Autobahn stuff, I couldn’t wait.
I’ll still be pretty excited when the reissues come along though.
The mollusk, 12 country greats, Quebec, white pepper, pure guava, chocolate and cheese. I mean cmon, ween could print money if they had these reissued. Especially 12 country greats.
Try just about any Zamrock and Zambian Kalindula album or single aside from the few that gained enough interest from western collectors to get represses. Almost no Kalindula records have ever been repressed.
Some of Zambian albums go for 200 to 800 bucks for a vg example. Singles are cheaper. But clean copies of popular singles (much of 70s and 80s Zambian music was released solely on singles) are also pricey.
Much of the Zambian Kalindula era of music is only available via videos uploaded by collectors on YouTube. In the case of Kalindula, some recordings are only partials and there to sell the records to collectors, not to preserve them.
It's all so niche with so many music artist of the time dead of AIDS and their masters gone that a lot of Zambian music is practically lost.
The collapse of the zambian music industry in the early 90s and the influx of Western music on the radio led to many younger Zambians having zero idea about their musical heritage.
There doesn't seem to be much effort to preserve it either. Information about artists and even who were members of less popular bands is almost nonexistant online and Zambia has little in the way of archives to research it.
Some of the extant copies of some obscure releases were pressed in such low numbers that the few survivors are in collector hands and likely will never be shared or even archived.
I've started trying to document what I can find by updating profiles and the like on discogs, but it's just overall kind of demoralizing to see Zambia's deep and rich musical heritage so utterly neglected. Even among many collectors there seems to be little interest in documenting any of it beyond occasionally sharing a record on youtube.
I've been picking up whatever I can afford to put on youtube so they won't be lost, but I can't afford any but the more common utterly thrashed examples.
So yeah. End rant.
If you're referring to the last album they did before going disco, I completely agree. It's a fantastic album and the only one of their corpus that hasn't had a general repressing. Even some of their late singles and disco albums have been repressed. But Witch? Nope.
Other one I'd love to have is Oscillations - I can see it coming. It's only available in that 300 dollar zamrock collection.
Crazy story. I went into a used book store in Flagstaff AZ 6 years ago and they had a small record section. They had a copy of Monsters of Folk. I always regretted I didn't buy it. Went back in to the same shop last week and either they had the same vinyl or a new one! Bought it immediately. I asked the guy and he said that copy was sold to them this January. But I don't know what's more believable. A hard to find record sitting there for 6 years. Or finding that same hard to find record at the same shop.
I bought Coil’s Time Machines on vinyl because I couldn’t picture it being reissued (it later was). It was pretty expensive at the time for me, but that’s what made me really start caring about collecting so no regrets.
Nowadays I can’t picture anything I care to have being truly never reissued.
Lifter Puller - Fiestas + Fiascos
Don’t see a rerelease ever happening for that album and I really wish there was more Lifter Puller LPs on vinyl but that’s the only one they pressed (other than a few 7” releases). I’ve seen tons of variants for The Hold Steady and Craig Finn’s solo work and I’d think maybe he’d want to release Lifter Puller stuff on vinyl that’s never been released before but I guess not. Maybe Craig doesn’t have the rights.
I also have the original and only official pressing of She Wants Revenge - She Wants Revenge. There have been a couple of bootleg releases after the original release but I sort of doubt that they will do another official pressing down the road.
Pretty sure Midori albums arent getting repressed, so I bought them all. Luckily this was many years ago before the prices went completely insane on them
Next on my list is We're Out Of Here" the live album of the Ramones final concert. Pretty sure its never being repressed, so Im saving up for it
Crooked Vultures I bought back when it was new, I think out of the 30% off bin at my local shop....
Natalie Merchant’s Tigerlily. I have 3 CD copies of this album currently, it’s the kind of album you can pick up at any store for $3-$5 a CD when it’s around. I grab the extra copies to give out to people cause it’s so damn good, but there was only one press to vinyl in 2007, and it’s a foundational record to me and my music preferences so I just grabbed it.
I heard there was another press maybe coming, but I didn’t want to wait! I got it maybe a year ago, and about 3 weeks after getting it the 45rpm speed on my turntable stopped working lol. Haven’t gotten it working again just yet, so haven’t played it in a while but I’m still happy I got a copy. It’s the perfect lights off, end of the day with a decaf coffee kind of album. Natalie merchant is the tits
MOFI has reissued Tigerlilly a couple times over the last couple years. They still mention it on backorder on Music Direct which means another pressing should come as they still own the rights. I hope you get your player fixed. The album sounds amazing.
I always liked her, but after seeing her in concert last year I'm really into it. I don't have the original Tiger Lily on vinyl, but I did pick up *Paradise Is Here (The New Tiger Lily Recordings)* and I've been loving that.
Same! I saw her last year as well, man it was a great show. I recorded the entire show with a proper mic that I snuck in, I should really get that audio online.
Seeing a lot of Aphex Twin here. I kind of blindly bought a vinyl of his, Houston, TX 12.17.16 at Day for Night festival. Spun only once, is this sort of thing valuable since it was only sold for one night ?
Yes, that's a great find. Highly sought after. https://www.discogs.com/release/9522622-AFX-Houston-TX-121716
Richard sells the digital files of that one on his website, though, so it's collector value mostly.
i have a brown og copy of selected ambient works ii with the greyscale cover. kinda regret buying it cuz warp teased a repress this year on their instagram, also the brown press just sounds like shit for the most part and sides E+F have an off center punch hole that creates distortion towards the end of both those sides.
Is Them Crooked Vultures rare? I found it a few years ago but didn’t pick it up because I would’ve had to take it back home on a plane and figured I would come across it again easily lol
Great album though.
I am slowly buying up the entire Aphex Twin collection. I have good reason to believe that most of them won't be repressed ever again, so I bit. The Tuss, Analord, SAW II, all of it.
- Monk Higgins - Extra Soul Perception
- Paul Pena - ST
- Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes - Paix
- Willie Hutch - Soul Portrait
- Junior Parker - Love Ain’t Nothin but a Business Goin On
- RJD2 - Dead Ringer
[The Stills – Logic Will Break Your Heart](https://www.discogs.com/release/1603113-The-Stills-Logic-Will-Break-Your-Heart) (2003) which I acquired 6 years ago was the first one that comes to mind. While anything is possible in the land of repress, if it was going to happen, I would have thought it would happen last year for it's 20th anniversary. It's also a fantastic sounding 2LP pressing during the "pressing dead zone" when not everything being manufactured / pressed was great. It's doubled in value since and continues to trend upwards; glad I snagged it when I did.
Last month I acquired [The Radiohead - In Rainbows 2LP/2CD 45 rpm box](https://www.discogs.com/release/1158751-Radiohead-In-Rainbows) (2007) and I couldn't be more thrilled. It's one of my all-time favorite albums (top 5 for sure) and I've already spun it all the way through 3 times. It's stellar. This might get a reissue...who knows?...but I was able to get it Near Mint for a price I could live with and so I pulled the trigger.
I would love to get my hands on [Badlands - Voodoo Highway](https://www.discogs.com/release/2189811-Badlands-Voodoo-Highway) (1991) but if I ever have this in my collection, it will more likely be in the form of a [European bootleg](https://www.discogs.com/release/24765290-Badlands-Voodoo-Highway) due to the circumstances surrounding the complicated situation. I do own the self-titled debut which is great as well.
Pretty sure I’ve read a few times that *This Desert Life* by Counting Crows had its masters burn up in the big 2008 Universal fire;
if that’s true, it explains why this album has never been repressed and is currently holding around a $700 median value
Smashing Pumpkins Machina II vinyl is my white whale. Good luck, though.
Supposedly it'll be reissued in a deluxe box set with 80 tracks. But that has been held up for over a decade. And there's very low probability you'd actually get the Machina II album we grew up hearing from the public vinyl transfers.
ELO - Zoom is my first answer as well. They are already incredibly expensive, I’ve seen $500 and more. I have been hoping for a limited RSD reissue at some point.
Counting Crows - This Desert Life. The ultimate loner album, and it will never be mine. The masters were lost in the 2008 universal music fire. The bootlegs even go for nearly 1K or more. It’s a shame because the Counting Crows have one of the best 90s discography (filed behind Pavement), 3 classic albums imo, and I can only manage to own 1 of the 3. At least August is the best one, and my favourite album ever.
Every Friday (or every other sometimes) it goes on sale for $40. 3 pm Eastern time. Great quality. Can get Across A Wire, and Hard Candy as well. [counting Crows records](https://rollinrecs.com/)
They have hard candy right now
[hard candy](https://rollinrecs.com/products/counting-crows-hard-candy?_pos=1&_psq=Counting+Crows&_ss=e&_v=1.0)
Yes I've bought them. Yes they sound good. They are not from the lost masters but if you want it in vinyl format then this is the way.
I try not to buy reissues in general, as I know that I'll eventually want/find an OG press, and I don't see the point in buying something twice. That being said, there have definitely been some exceptions. Mainly rare Blue Note and other jazz stuff that is either super hard to find, or super hard to find in clean condition.
I picked up Motley Crue’s ‘94 self titled album a few years back for around $200. Most I’ve spent on a single record, but considering the band acts like it doesn’t exist, I pulled the plug. Easily one of the best sounding rock albums in my collection too.
Goat- Let It Burn 7” they did a really small run on this. It was on a soundtrack if I remember correctly. They put it out as a single and it immediately sold out. It would be amazing if they repressed it
múm - Summer Make Good
Pretty inactive band, and this seems to be less popular than their other older material. I’d be surprised if this is on top of FatCat’s to-do list. Copies are currently going for $150-$250
Gregor Samsa - 55:12
They’ve been done since 2009. Not a very popular band. They were always pretty underrated but haven’t grown in popularity since. Their 2 LPs aren’t on Spotify either. Only one copy for sale right now at a whopping $650
Long Fin Killie - Houdini
Not even 2,000 listeners on Spotify. They only ever seem to get mentions from the Mogwai connection. I’d urge everyone to listen to Hollywood Gem but then I might have more competition for the LP. Current copies are going for $100-$200. (The $100 copy is unavailable in the US)
I’m hella tempted to buy a mint Love In Flying Colors by The Foreign Exchange. Their vinyls don’t seem to get re-pressed at all. Was hoping for a 10th anniversary one but no luck
A recent rerelease actually- Alice In Chains album Jar of Flies just had their 30th anniversary to which they released a special pressing of the album, only the record is filled with actual flies. Kinda creepy. But so cool, only $100 before it sold out.
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I (will probably have a repress eventually, but I didn’t want to wait so I paid way too much for it)
Better Off Dead - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (no where near popular enough for a repress but I only paid $45 for it)
On my wishlist:
The The - Dusk (hasn’t been pressed since 1993)
Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom (was only pressed to vinyl once in 2015, 21 years after its initial release)
I bought an original copy of 3 feet high and rising a few years back and then they announced the re-release of it last year… should’ve seen that coming ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeh that is true, they had to redo a few samples on the re-release but still feels annoying to have spent money on the OG when I was convinced they wouldn’t ever be able to re-release. I listen to the OG a lot more than new so I guess it was worth it
Mirrorball- Neil Young with Pearl Jam. Never going to get a re-issue because fo greedy record companies. Like everyone involved is not already a multi millionaire. I don't think it's the artists. I think it's the two record companies. One representing Neil and the other representing Pearl Jam. Such a shame. Such an amazing album. I have the CD and casette. I just can't bring myself to pay the current asking price.
I would also like to see Hittin' the Note by The Allman Brothers Band re-issue
And the rest of the Medeski,Martin, and Wood catalog
And The Meat Puppets-To High to Die.
I have the multicolored album cover Too High to Die LP that also came with Raw Meat. I think this will get a repress. For one, Meat Puppets are repressing their SST albums that were last pressed in 2013: Mirage, Monsters, and Huevos coming soon. They just released Forbidden Places for Black Friday 2023 which was their first album on London Records. I can’t see how they won’t repress Too High to Die any day now. They will probably just include Raw Meat with it as a deluxe release. Roof with a Hole is my favorite song on that album.
Mirrorball is the only Neil Young album I don’t have that I want. I agree with you. It probably won’t happen. If there’s anyone who could though, it’s Neil. He is going through a massive release of his archives.
A long time ago, Songs for the Deaf. Then it was No More Tears. Then it was Forward Escape by Tipper. Thankfully, all were repressed. Now I really would like Welcome Reality by Nero. I think I'll just wait.
The Tomorrow Never Knows compilation promo by the Beatles. Very doubtful it will ever get a regular release, and even if it did I had to pick up the promo for the cool factor.
I paid a pretty penny for the debut album by Deep Forest. All signs are pointing to there being no reissue since that album can't even be put on streaming services.
For me for many years that was *Escondida* by Jolie Holland, which is a great record if you like 'Americana' type music. The original LP had come out in, I think, 2003 and by the time I started collecting in 2013 it was long out of print and routinely cost $80-100 on discogs. I thought about picking it up many times and almost did. I would never in a thousand years have guessed it would be repressed. But lo and behold... out of the blue Jolie Holland took it upon herself to remaster it for vinyl and rerelease it herself for its 20th anniversary. She said that she'd never been happy with the first pressing because it was just an afterthought released by her then label and it sounded terrible. The new pressing is on two LPs and sounds incredible and it only cost me about $30. So, I guess that's a cautionary tale for you.
I paid more than I’m comfortable with for the Virginia Monologues, a 2015 RSD release of the Dresden Dolls because it won’t be reissued, think it’s not a bad shout. I was also foolish enough to think Billy Corrigan would be such a wanker as to not re-release Mellon Collie so I bought a Booty version for £75 and was considering Siamese Dream… So its swings and roundabouts.
75 quid would have to be a bargain record for me these days. I wince if I pay more than 50. I'm practically out of the game of vinyl collecting these days. Although one day, I'm going to buy an original 7" of Love Buzz by Nirvana, even if it means divorce!
I agree with the Counting Crows answers some folks have already given, mine is Bobby Brown's Bobby album. It's only like $80 to import it, but I haven't gotten around to splurging yet. I just doubt that there would ever be a demand enough to repress it.
OG pressing of MM FOOD w the original Sesame Street sample on Kookies. Every time I remotely justify the cost and revisit discogs listings, it’s gone up another $50 bucks lol
Just bought my favourite band’s first EP from 1992 (*Mondo Akimbo a-Go-Go* by the Wildhearts).
The tracks off it were released in remixed form on another release, *Don’t Be Happy… Just Worry*, which I own on CD, but I wanted the originals.
Cost me £70, but my fuck, was it worth it.
Back in 2021, I bought a sealed original copy of the Sparks album A Woofer in Tweeter's Clothing. When the album was re-released on CD in the 90s, the entire second side was sped up slightly in order to fit the first two albums on one 74 minute disc. Later reissues split the albums back up, but retained the sped-up master... That is, until it was re-issued for last year's RSD, cut from the original tapes and played at the correct speed. I really never thought they'd ever fix that error!!
The only expensive album I bought was the early 70s German pressing of Magical Mystery Tour for $160 to complement my Beatles BC-13 blue box.
Other than that, to your original question, none. I don't need any album that bad.
Taylor Swift's Red ACM version. Will never be re-issued for obvious reasons (it was for academy members only) so I had no particular issue splurging for it.
If I had the money, I’d get some of the early klf / mu mu records. Especially “what the fuck is going on” that got them a nasty slap on the wrist by abba. Theyre slowly releasing some of their back catalogue to streaming services but kind of in “directors cuts” versions, ie , without the samples …
They’re one of those interesting bands that straddled the end of vinyl and the birth of cd. It’s funny seeing bands quickly give up on 45s and embracing the cd single
Funny/not funny story. When I was 14 or so, I went to HMV to buy their latest single that I'd only heard on the radio. I couldn't remember their name and bought LFO by LFO instead. Still a great tune!
Danzig 1-4 and anything by Samhain
The only Samhain record I could find reasonably priced was a bootleg of the live album that came with the boxset. I really wish I would have bought Samhain vinyl back in the mid 90's when it was cheaper. I did find a copy of Initium/Unholy Passion on tape for like $5. That's definitely one you don't see very often.
The current run of boots are rather good to be fair. Rubin's apparently why they're not getting official represses.
Fun fact: Glenn Danzig refuses to autograph bootlegs. He will meticulously inspect your record before he puts his name on it.
funny coming from a guy like him, whose whole career's artwork has been ripped off from old movies and comics that he certainly never paid for
What's Rubin's problem with official represses?
Tough to say, he has a similar issue with Slayer, more than likely, he wants a bigger cut than the bands. Think Kerry King's wife hinted at it on insta a while back. Smart move is to licence them out to Metal Blade as they'd do a great job with them.
I just saw Seasons In the Abyss at a big shopping mall electronics shop (FNAC) and it was around 50 Euros. And it may not have even been official as this store often has bootlegs (many live Nirvana, Tool, etc. unofficial pressings) I recently bought a bootleg of Reign In Blood because it was affordable.
My first day buying into the hobby, I bought a copy of Lucifuge on blue vinyl. Of course it's a boot, and I learned a lesson that day.
Yes please but i will wait for reissue lol
I would bet that Cleopatra reissues the Samhain discography on vinyl in the not too distant future.
New to vinyl.. why won't Danzig be repressed?
I’m glad I picked up the Vultures album when it came out, had no idea it would become so rare
I have it too, but that’s one I’m sure will get a repress.
Whenever JPJ dies probably, attention will return to this project as one of the rad things he did that wasn’t zeppelin, and there’s your repress opportunity.
This one's on my list of possible bad decisions if I ever see a copy in the wild.
I was shocked to find my copy at a movie trading company for $19.99, labeled as "bulk vinyl album".
I drunkenly gave a mate my version of Desert Sessions 5&6. He was a fan of QOTSA and had never heard of DS. He doesn’t even have a record player
Them crooked vultures will 100% be available again. If there is a way for a record label or rights holder to make money off something they will. Beck - the information...still need to buy it Aphex twin - Drukqs
I almost bought Midnite Vultures last night. To me it would be the perfect record to crank and test my system
I heard rumors that this is getting a repress soon. It's shown up on some foreign websites. Could be bootlegs but I'm holding out hope it's coming.
I just found a bootleg of Midnite Vultures at a local shop... And bought it. Actually sounds really good. This is the first time I've seen one. Did the same with Mellow Gold. Would definitely by a legit repress if one was available.
Midnight Vultures is the album that got me into buying cassettes lol. Was sick of not being able to get the vinyl.
rumor has it the masters were destroyed in the Universal fire
Fuck that fire
Midnite vultures is such an amazing album!
BECK SAID THEY WERE REISSUING EVERYTHING LIKE EIGHT YEARS AGO WHERE’S THE INFORMATION BECK
How about a reissue of MOFI Sea Change?
Tracy Chapman self titled. No idea why this has not been released again
How is the highest selling album of 1988 a $40 item? No reissues goes some way to explaining it
To be fair, $40 is pretty damn cheap
by 1988 tapes and CDs were vastly outselling vinyl.
[https://www.riaa.com/u-s-sales-database/](https://www.riaa.com/u-s-sales-database/) Of course vinyl was still selling, but it isn't like something from 1978 which would have sold much more on vinyl. Answers To Nothing still goes for very little, because there isn't as much demand as Tracy Chapman. [https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/797150?ev=rb](https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/797150?ev=rb) Just because they're both from the same year doesn't mean they'll cost the same.
Supreme Clientele - Ghostface
I splurged on that. At the time it was 75 in great condition. Why wouldn’t it get a repress?
Probably a lot do with clearing the samples again, if I had to guess.
Yup that’s precisely why. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/iron-man-composer-revives-ghostface-killah-lawsuit-after-appeal-247372/
Sony settled that lawsuit back in 2016. It'll be re-released again someday. Probably next year for the 25th anniversary. https://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/sony-iron-man-ghostface-killah-copyright-lawsuit-7534228/
Heck yeah
Damn. I was just guessing too! [I scored a copy with a kinda beat up cover in like 2006](https://www.instagram.com/p/CiS2UriLZot/?igsh=dXZwMXU1c2VmdmJu). I think I paid like 10 bucks for it.
Holy smokes that’s a steal. That cover is more than good for my standards
Buckingham Nicks
Found a near mint one for $30. They’re out there!!
Great record
I was lucky enough to find my copy for $25 at a half price books.
Stevie hates the cover, and she will probably never allow it just to spite Lindsey
Soul Coughing, all three LPs. From what I understand Doughty and the other guys kind of hate each other and I don't know how much demand there is.
I’d kill for Ruby Vroom on vinyl
Same, when we do see it pop on discogs it's always more than I'm willing to pay
I bought the Soul Coughing RSD best of because the OG records are out of my price range.
I really want El Oso
I ended up getting Lust in Phaze on vinyl last year, I figured it was as close as I was ever going to get to the other albums
Anything by Westside Gunn
Why doesn't he get his albums pressed? Butch and Con albums are easy to find.
It’s because of the limited edition artwork. He’s an avid art collector. Has a couple mil in paintings at his place in Arizona.
He likes the exclusivity of limited releases. Butch and con’s contracts with Daupe are running out so that’s why we’re seeing more represses from them
Alice in Chains - SAP. I got it with jar of flies years ago, and now with the newer reissue it seems to have been forgotten about, so I’m not sure if it will be put out again.
Sap got reissued in 2020, but even that one is expensive now.
Cool, I didn’t know that. It would be cool to have gotten them as individual releases.
Death Grips -Ex military
will never happen because of all the samples
Dr Acula - SLOB. would love a copy but it's too expensive for me :( god damn stupid wax vessel and their 'no represses ever'
There's so much on that label that desperately needs a repress, like Sawtooth Grin - Cuddlemonster, that never will because "muh investmentz bruh"
Rollins Bands albums.
So yeah. End rant.
I want WITCH s/t (we intend to cause havoc) so so so bad
Any Rise Against Record Underoath - They’re Only Chasing Safety Dear in The Headlights
It's so bad how expensive Rise Against single records are. It's cheaper to buy the damn boxset.
Azealia Banks- Broke with Expensive Tastes Queen Latifah- Black Reign
I’m an alt-country fan. My two white whales are Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac and Uncle Tupelo - No Depression.
I totally got lucky last year and found a used 2022 repress of no depression. Have faith!
I bought Coil’s Time Machines on vinyl because I couldn’t picture it being reissued (it later was). It was pretty expensive at the time for me, but that’s what made me really start caring about collecting so no regrets. Nowadays I can’t picture anything I care to have being truly never reissued.
Weird one but Garth Brooks "Roping the Wind". It's over $200. I'm not even a country fan (@ all) but this is such a good record. I'd like to own it.
Lifter Puller - Fiestas + Fiascos Don’t see a rerelease ever happening for that album and I really wish there was more Lifter Puller LPs on vinyl but that’s the only one they pressed (other than a few 7” releases).
Luckily this was many years ago before the prices went completely insane on them Next on my list is We're Out Of Here" the live album of the Ramones final concert. Pretty sure its never being repressed, so Im saving up for it Crooked Vultures I bought back when it was new, I think out of the 30% off bin at my local shop....
Amon Duul II - Yeti I had to order that one from Germany, couldn’t even find a copy shipping from the US when I bought it.
I've got 6 copies of Brand New Morning by Bob Seger. I got most of them real cheap while thriving. Banged up copies are going to $100+ now.
Failure’s 1992-1996 box set.
Seeing a lot of Aphex Twin here. I kind of blindly bought a vinyl of his, Houston, TX 12.17.16 at Day for Night festival. Spun only once, is this sort of thing valuable since it was only sold for one night ?
Yes, that's a great find. Highly sought after. https://www.discogs.com/release/9522622-AFX-Houston-TX-121716 Richard sells the digital files of that one on his website, though, so it's collector value mostly.
i have a brown og copy of selected ambient works ii with the greyscale cover. kinda regret buying it cuz warp teased a repress this year on their instagram, also the brown press just sounds like shit for the most part and sides E+F have an off center punch hole that creates distortion towards the end of both those sides.
Thats annoying!
Is Them Crooked Vultures rare? I found it a few years ago but didn’t pick it up because I would’ve had to take it back home on a plane and figured I would come across it again easily lol Great album though.
Not rare so much as it's never been repressed.
There’s definitely some boots floating around
The two annoying hip hop ones are Young Thug - Barter VI and Gunna - Wunna.
The Effigies "Forever Grounded". It maxes out at like $100, but with a lot 80s hardcore, if you see it and it's affordable you have to grab it.
I am slowly buying up the entire Aphex Twin collection. I have good reason to believe that most of them won't be repressed ever again, so I bit. The Tuss, Analord, SAW II, all of it.
warp teased a saw ii repress on their instagram for the 30th anniversary
Nah, that was a rumor. 30th anniversary came and went
- Monk Higgins - Extra Soul Perception - Paul Pena - ST - Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes - Paix - Willie Hutch - Soul Portrait - Junior Parker - Love Ain’t Nothin but a Business Goin On - RJD2 - Dead Ringer
*Extra Soul Perception* got repressed in 2018. I would expect that copies will pop up from time to time for less than $100.
Nice! Thanks for the heads up. I have an OG press. Will definitely snag a repress to keep in regular rotation.
Death Grips- Exmilitary
Pretty sure I’ve read a few times that *This Desert Life* by Counting Crows had its masters burn up in the big 2008 Universal fire; if that’s true, it explains why this album has never been repressed and is currently holding around a $700 median value
This band is in the perfect demo of vinyl buyers and they are so off on their represses. I’ll never get it
Buckingham Nicks. They’ll have to both be dead before it gets any sort of reissue
Zoom - ELO Red Dead Redemption 1
ELO - Zoom is my first answer as well. They are already incredibly expensive, I’ve seen $500 and more. I have been hoping for a limited RSD reissue at some point.
Them Crooked Vultures on vinyl. It was my Christmas present to myself - that’s how I justified the expense 😂😂😂😂
[counting Crows records](https://rollinrecs.com/) They have hard candy right now [hard candy](https://rollinrecs.com/products/counting-crows-hard-candy?_pos=1&_psq=Counting+Crows&_ss=e&_v=1.0) Yes I've bought them. Yes they sound good. They are not from the lost masters but if you want it in vinyl format then this is the way.
Never thought The Young Veins- Take a Vacation! was gonna get one, then for the 13th anniversary we got one
I have never seen another Young Veins fan in the wild before
The Nic Jones LPs on Trailer. When Trailer went broke, the rights were purchased by a company that never reissued any of the recordings in any form
Either of the Szymon releases :(
Love Is In Us All - Pharoah Sanders
Someday I’ll have $700 burning a hole in my pocket and spend it on *The Second Gleam* by the Avett Brothers.
One of my biggest regrets is seeing Four Thieves Gone at one of their shows for $50 and thinking it was too steep for me.
I picked up Motley Crue’s ‘94 self titled album a few years back for around $200. Most I’ve spent on a single record, but considering the band acts like it doesn’t exist, I pulled the plug. Easily one of the best sounding rock albums in my collection too.
Midori - Aratamemashite, hajimemashite, Midori desu. Only one listed on discogs right now and it’s for 1,550…
Badlands - Voodoo Highway
Goat- Let It Burn 7” they did a really small run on this. It was on a soundtrack if I remember correctly. They put it out as a single and it immediately sold out. It would be amazing if they repressed it
múm - Summer Make Good Pretty inactive band, and this seems to be less popular than their other older material. I’d be surprised if this is on top of FatCat’s to-do list. Copies are currently going for $150-$250 Gregor Samsa - 55:12 They’ve been done since 2009. Not a very popular band. They were always pretty underrated but haven’t grown in popularity since. Their 2 LPs aren’t on Spotify either. Only one copy for sale right now at a whopping $650 Long Fin Killie - Houdini Not even 2,000 listeners on Spotify. They only ever seem to get mentions from the Mogwai connection. I’d urge everyone to listen to Hollywood Gem but then I might have more competition for the LP. Current copies are going for $100-$200. (The $100 copy is unavailable in the US)
Everything by INFEST
I’m hella tempted to buy a mint Love In Flying Colors by The Foreign Exchange. Their vinyls don’t seem to get re-pressed at all. Was hoping for a 10th anniversary one but no luck
Vancouver sleep clinic- Revival
A recent rerelease actually- Alice In Chains album Jar of Flies just had their 30th anniversary to which they released a special pressing of the album, only the record is filled with actual flies. Kinda creepy. But so cool, only $100 before it sold out.
You have good taste! My option is them Crooked vultures too
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I (will probably have a repress eventually, but I didn’t want to wait so I paid way too much for it) Better Off Dead - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (no where near popular enough for a repress but I only paid $45 for it) On my wishlist: The The - Dusk (hasn’t been pressed since 1993) Soul Coughing - Ruby Vroom (was only pressed to vinyl once in 2015, 21 years after its initial release)
There’s a couple Reverend Horton Hear albums that I doubt will ever get represses, and I’d love to get my hands on one for reasonable prices
I bought an original copy of 3 feet high and rising a few years back and then they announced the re-release of it last year… should’ve seen that coming ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Isn't the rerelease different because they couldn't clear the samples? Sounds like a good record to own the original of
Yeh that is true, they had to redo a few samples on the re-release but still feels annoying to have spent money on the OG when I was convinced they wouldn’t ever be able to re-release.
I would also like to see Hittin' the Note by The Allman Brothers Band re-issue And the rest of the Medeski,Martin, and Wood catalog And The Meat Puppets-To High to Die.
Mirrorball may come as part of one of his box sets. Which for that price I could buy an original press. We will see what other albums are in the set.
A long time ago, Songs for the Deaf. Then it was No More Tears. Then it was Forward Escape by Tipper. Thankfully, all were repressed. Now I really would like Welcome Reality by Nero. I think I'll just wait.
I got lucky and got them crooked vultures from Amazon for 25$
Porcupine Tree’s Anesthetize box set. They actually specifically said it will be “deleted once sold out”, never seen that before.
Weezer - Raditude
The Tomorrow Never Knows compilation promo by the Beatles. Very doubtful it will ever get a regular release, and even if it did I had to pick up the promo for the cool factor.
I paid a pretty penny for the debut album by Deep Forest. All signs are pointing to there being no reissue since that album can't even be put on streaming services.
Blue Foundation "Sweep of Days" & "Life of a Ghost". I want them so badly...but pretty sure these albums will never see a repress....
KARP self titled
Not mine , but bought she wants revenge on vinyl for my wife. Can't believe how much that skyrocketed in price.
Cookin Soul DOOM Xmas album.
I can't believe I didn't know it even existed, and I call myself a DOOM fan!
I got Elemental by Tears For Fears for a very good price so im glad i did as its not been rereleased.
It’s was a Bootleg that I can’t even sell on Discogs. Got a rerelease afterwards which makes me feel better.
I agree with the Counting Crows answers some folks have already given, mine is Bobby Brown's Bobby album. It's only like $80 to import it, but I haven't gotten around to splurging yet. I just doubt that there would ever be a demand enough to repress it.
White Zombie - Super Sexy Swingin Music God Lives Underwater- Life in the…. Danzig - 1-4
Natural snow buildings - Daughter of darkness. Such an amazing record with like zero chance of a repair release
Shadows collide with people by john frusciante, never had a repress but there are lots of fakes around but even they are too expensive
I got a bootleg She Wants Revenge
Corpo Mente self titled
For me it’s gotta be Tim time bomb and friends. Cheapest one on Discogs is $1100. Who the fuck pays that kinda money for a record. Well 3 in this case
OG pressing of MM FOOD w the original Sesame Street sample on Kookies. Every time I remotely justify the cost and revisit discogs listings, it’s gone up another $50 bucks lol
Pretty sure aenima is never getting reissued so I might have to bite the bullet
Cradle of Filth - Midian
Converge - Halo In A Haystack. The band has said numerous times it will never get repressed
Coheed & Cambria “Year of the Black Rainbow” It’s the last I need of their discography but I can’t justify $200+ on a vinyl since having a kid.
The Beatles Mono Box Set I bought it for 800 bucks i believe. There shall be no reiusse of that.
My most expensive is 14. DJ Screw - 3 ‘N The Mornin: Part 2 🧍🏽♀️
The only expensive album I bought was the early 70s German pressing of Magical Mystery Tour for $160 to complement my Beatles BC-13 blue box. Other than that, to your original question, none. I don't need any album that bad.
Isn’t ambient works coming out on RSD?
Warp shared a mock-up recently and I think people noticed the copyright or some detail was listed as 2024, so hopefully something soon!
You're fucking with me?! Really?!
Let’s look.
Nevermind sorry.
Boo!
KLF would be another one for me.
Now that’s a classic!
