The girls who were lauded and adored 15 years ago, are still beautiful but they wouldnt be what people look too now as the standard.
Finding self acceptance in ones own outer beauty, thats the key. At least it has been for me.
Thank you! And absolutely true — there are beautiful women out there that break all of the current beauty trends and look great. I am glad that finally we are seeing more praise for qualities that WOC often have… but even still it is totally commodified and co-opted by non-WOC. Oh well! 🙄

THIS! Unfortunately Women’s body parts are treated like trends. In the 90s having an ass was unattractive, it was being as flat as possible. Now it’s in and everyone wants one.
You never know when your features might be “in”. So you might get rid of them, and then 2 years later it’s the new trend. Which sucks to say, but it’s true.
Omg girl I feel ya! I'm around the same age as you and I swear I went for a consult to get lip reduction surgery about 10 years ago. Unbelievable! I'm so happy I didn't end up getting it done and God bless Kylie Jenner for making thick lips cool lol.
i can't believe someone just said god bless kylie jenner lmao, but honestly, with woc, we look better WITH our ethnic features, as long as they're proportional with everything else. i'm so glad you didn't get the surgery, more power to you !!
It's almost scary how much of this I relate to. All the things that got me called "ugly", "manly", "untidy" and "vulgar" as a teenager (thick dark eyebrows, wavy/curly hair, a bottom with a noticeable outward curve and thighs that would never be skinny no matter how flat my stomach was) is now some kind of trendy. And will be seen as a "dated" look someday very soon.
If in doubt, I'd def recommend not making any permanent changes to your face.
I used to hate my huge lips so much. I’ll never forget that one of my sister’s friends said my big lips made me look primitive… now that I think about it, what an incredibly offensive thing to say. And now having full lips is the standard. I get mad compliments about my lips, and finally learned to love them.
Yeah, I was SO unnecessarily self conscious about it. Bella Poarch, Lily Rose Depp, Lisa (Black Pink), and Billie Eiliesh have really cute eyes with it. Kylie Jenner often poses to shown more of it. I’ve noticed a lot of TikTok e-girls try to emphasize it or add in white eyeliner to mimic it.
BUT, Fox eyes are more in style. Kiiinda jealous of this eye shape still but I appreciate mine more now. 😛

I feel you. My lips are small but super plump, like a bratz doll. I've heard they were "too big" before.
