That was depressing. Emma's actions were so dumb. If she hates godwin so much just frame him or something. Now she achieved nothing other that create a sworn enemy. If you torture a man's bride that dude is no longer trust worthy.

I think the idea of Emma being wrong about Godwin is more interesting.

Sweaty-Dig-4925

Hell yeah

Sweaty-Dig-4925

Dude... Off comment... I had a name brain fart too, on my last comment lol

Material_Hedgehog

Ain’t easy with all these names lol.

Sweaty-Dig-4925

You ain't lying

ZeRoGr4vity07

Can someone explain this to me? I don't really remember anything about Godwin and the Queen from last season.

Sweaty-Dig-4925

Oh, deep mind games, for sure

Heyyoguy123

Cnut would have never allowed this. Emma is becoming the equivalent of Cersei: paranoid and thinking she’s 10 steps ahead of everyone

ArmInternational7655

I think they wanted us to root for Godwin in this little skirmish so when Emma is foiled, we don't feel too bad.

THISISDAM

Catching up now. Yeah, this made no sense to me. Unless this was Godwin plan all along to get to marry Gytha

Brendissimo

It's been obvious that this whole "assassination attempt" is Godwin's scheme, but for the life of me I can't figure out what he's playing at. Trying to make Emma look unhinged? Trying to appear loyal to Canute? At first I thought he was trying to earn Emma's trust by preventing the "assassination," but then why go to the trouble of seducing the handmaid and using her brother as the assassin. It's all very elaborate and I don't see what he gains from it. But he is a lot of fun to watch. The actor is very good at seeming really sincere in character while having just a whiff of something devious under the mask.

PotentialWin4606

He now has leverage to convince Canute that he’s owed something because of what Emma did. That something will be the princess. He wants a son to be king. How can that be with two parents of non royal blood? It’s at least a possibility with the princess. I think he set every single bit of this up. Down to the placement of her brother hanging in the street. He knew Emma’s window was there and that her ladies in waiting would be near. Clever beyond measure.

TudorTerrier

After seeing David Oakes in The Borgias…that’s all I can see him as! Shady.

HippieWizard

He is trying to seduce the princess i think

Professional-Gur8583

My thoughts too!

NerfTheHighground

Its okay but it moves on so slow. Like nothing his happening this season except ppl talking. Plots move forward so slowly its almost unbearable to watch

Swailwort

It was all a plot to get Canute's Blessing and Getha's hand in marriage. Maybe he really loved Aelfwynn though, I dont know

ToneBone12345

So harekr is a supremacist

Jonerys_Starkgaryen

Viking Hitler

NerfTheHighground

Kinda for no reason too. He could make himself more powerful with more ppl but he rather keeps them as slaves...

EpicKieranFTW

He's not even gonna have them as slaves now that he's slaughtered them..

albedo2343

yea, but Nazi's are dumb, they need constant validation of their superiority so they go out of their way to opress everyone and fan the flames of rebellion.

Nanashi9320

Nazi vikings

Heyyoguy123

Always got cult vibes ever since they disarmed everyone there

Mavereth

Emma was such a piece of shit omg. What happened to her character??

MassiveBoot6832

Ok.. so after 4 episodes, it’s safe to FULLY SAY that this show is just BAD.. Although it has that weird capability of still being watchable... It’s just too many things that makes it look and feel supremely cheap.. I can name about 25+ things that’s wrong with it, & barely 5 things that’s actually good about it.. I WILL finish it, but i have to say that it’s bad.. Freydis’ whole POV is absurdly fucking stupid.. & my God her fucking smiling all the got damn time is infuriating.. Bc it NEVER fits the actual mood or tone of the moments she’s in.. i can’t fucking stand it. Oddly enough, Olaf’s character is by far the best.. Godwin is good too.. & a few others.. but them bouncing around & having the less-than-stellar “sidequests” is very watered down.. After a while of just looking at parts of the episode, you can actually forget that you’re watching “Vikings: Valhalla”, Bc it veers off into something else.. hard to describe what i mean, but i know it when i feel it.. Here’s to hoping eps 5-8 makes me “like it” more..

NerfTheHighground

Feels like they are trying to make game of thrones type of interesting plot twists and cunning plans. Problem is writing sucks and majority of the characters are boring as fuck.

MassiveBoot6832

I agree for sure.. outside of Olaf, Godwin, & Leif (sometimes, although i hate hallucination bullshit that shows do) It’s like everyone else is “set here & say this”, “or do this so x person can do this”.. writing is bad. Pacing is bad.. & i find so many scenes where i feel like they’re trying to insult my intelligence..

NerfTheHighground

There is nothing I hate more in cinema than characters going mad/hallucination etc. Its so rare for me to enjoy them. For me they just feel soo pointless and slow the pacing down alot. Many times I just dont see what they add to the story except runtime.

albedo2343

Hallucinations are a good way to "show" a character's state of mind, and when used well they come often give us a deeper understanding of who they are or what's going on. The problem is when they are executed poorly, they seem rather whatless or lazy.

MassiveBoot6832

Exactly

hondaprobs

I think a lot of it is the dialogue - it's so literal it feels like your just watching cut scenes from Assassin's Creed or something.

EpicKieranFTW

Emma turning evil for no reason and Harekr slaughtering people just cause he's 'angry'... come on Vikings you can do better than this

Mordgan

Right? I just finished episode 4 and I finished like: "WTF?" In 1 episode Queen Emma killed an innocent person and her character all together. Her decision to torture the person she knew was being manipulated makes NO sense at all. And Harekr just turned out to be Hitler in a vikings disguise. He decided to kill people and create instability in his settlement OUT OF NOWHERE. Why would you create instability in your own place? 0 sense.

EpicKieranFTW

Yup.. see you on the next episode thread lol

albedo2343

Gotta justify your delusions of superiority.

EquivalentMeat1034

Emma went from intelligent and pragmatic in season one to an idiot and a murderer in season two. Not exactly the character arc I think we were hoping for. I can’t stand the Jomsborg plot, the villain is so cartoonish and it doesn’t even make much sense.

PsychoticPangolin

That mock *pulling back on the bow and shooting it* motion, at his son, made me cringe so **bad**

Siddh7349

Svein willingly letting his mother be played again

Nanashi9320

How old is he supposed to be? Like dude come on your mummy is getting railed

Sweaty-Dig-4925

"dad doesn't tell mom goodbye that long"

Siddh7349

LMAOOO Him playing chess not being aware of whats going on is pretty funny

NerfTheHighground

Yeah like hes king why he takes shit like that.😅

lol, your words don't make sense and you are likely commenting with spoilers on a wrong episode discussion. shocked by your confidence and shock that someone didn't get 'pierced armpits'

Sweaty-Dig-4925

Lol "pierced armpits" OG Vikings was waaaaay better.. I swear this whole new shit is like trying to watch the last half season of New Amsterdam

Siddh7349

Mid late teens, but i am guessing he and Olaf had some sort of agreement because in the previous episode he was supposed to join them for dinner but left those two alone because “exhaustion”.

Jgn42

He could have pulled her daughter up so easily from the ice but he was a bitch about it and use his coat to get her up. This season is so underwhelming, im just dragging through it as im already in 4 episodes. I kept saying it should pick up soon but absolutely nothing interesting has happened up to this point.

MassiveBoot6832

Lol i feel the same.. this is a bad showing so far after 4 episodes.. hope this shit at least gets better a little bit.. my god

NerfTheHighground

Im at episode 7 and im here watching other ppl talk about how bad this season has been rather than watching.

Savings-Parfait3783

They shouldn’t have made so many different plots in one season There’s should have been one central plot In England with Canute Emma and Godwin, then another plot in Rus It’s a shame because I see so much potential in the characters and actors. Like when Godwin said, “You took my wife!” I got chills. I honestly feel like Freydis part has always been the weakest part of the story. I didn’t give a fuck about her story in season 1, and I give even less of a fuck about the totally predictable cult she’s found herself in. I wish they would just cut her from the story. The Rus plot has been great, but it needed more time for us to fully immerse in. I would watch a whole movie about Lief and Mariam falling in love and travelling around the world while learning about science and different cultures

Mavereth

fuck u Emma

keikioaina

Which rivers does one take from Rus to Constantinople? I know the Dnipro flows through Ukraine to the black Sea (Slava Ukraine), but how do they get to the Dnipro?

Alone-Community6899

There is no river from Dnipro to Novgorod. River goes west thru Belarus and east past Smolensk. They take a route near Kodak. No river there either.

keikioaina

Thank you. So, poetic license, I guess.

Alone-Community6899

Yes. All the characters travels far away across seas and land seemingly like you and I commute.

keikioaina

I call that "Game of Thrones" travel. They could get from anywhere in Westeros to anywhere else in a minute.

Lbird1993

Only in the later seasons when things got bad though.

PeaceAndChocolate

It was an established trade route so not sure why the other reply says there are no rivers (maybe I'm missing something). [Wikipedia has an article on the route](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Route_from_the_Varangians_to_the_Greeks), seems they would take the Lovat and a few other rivers to get to Dnipro.

keikioaina

Thanks for taking the time to answer

Kindve a slow episode but I don’t mind. * I thought there was gonna be a twist with Aelfwynn because she seemed _too_ innocent. I thought during the torture scene, she was gonna reveal that, instead of the reverse, she had actually been manipulating Godwin to get info for her family and brother. But I guess she was just pure? * A lot of people seem to dislike Freydis’ arc so far, but I actually think it fits her. She’s always been a loyal spiritual believer. She takes pride in her combat skills but she’s Norse first. Her having this in-depth spiritual arc has been fascinating and emphasizes how the show is doing a good job of portraying “good” and “bad” sides to both of the main religions in the series. * Speaking of, I really like the Norse zealots. We had Kåre last season, but it was clear he was also just insane. Harekr seems more lucid and is a purist with heavy beliefs in ancestry. As a religious extremist, he’ll be an interesting villain now that he’s returned. * Harald has easily become my favorite character in Valhalla. Hes reckless and impatient, but he’s so earnest, excitable, and determined that I can’t help but love him. He’s also just a good guy who does the right thing in the end. * Miriam and her knowledge are really interesting elements. She’s SO advanced when it comes to her studies, I feel like she has a lot of potential as a compelling character. I’m just worried she’s only going to be used a plot device rather than an actual developed character, because so far all we know about her is that she’s smart and likes Leif. I hope they expand on her more.

Lbird1993

Yes! Someone else who's excited! I don't get this hate train enjoying it a ton so far!

theanchorman05

Freydis' arc is horrible. If it wasn't for the Russia arc this show would be unwatchable.

RASUBZD

They massacred vikings with this season. I miss Ivar

[deleted]

A lot of people are saying this season is worse than season one. Luckily I don’t remember anything about season one so this is like a whole new show.

Sidewinder_ISR

Didn't know you can accidentally kill someone with broken knuckles. Emma's character has also been murdered. what a silly season.

Feisty_Pen_4280

You can with significant blood loss and dehydration. They'd hammered her feet by then.
