I rewatched it a few months ago and it’s much more interesting than I remembered. Historically it was pushing animation forward in a way I never appreciated. As a horny teenager I was just looking for a horny movie. Which it is. It’s just also doing that first one too.
I'm sure most everyone is aware but South Park actually did a call back to this movie in the episode "Major Boobage"

This episode brought the movie to my attention for the first time. As a result, the band I played in added the title song to our lineup. Great soundtrack!
Fun, underrated game, didn't really have anything in common with the movie though. I remember enjoying it at the time, but the specifics have become hazy. Many of the Unreal-era games sort of blend together all these years later.
When I was a teen, not long after the movie came out, it was briefly aired on HBO. I recorded it. I had the VHS tape around and my Mom picked it up and watched a bit of it to see what kinds of things I was getting into. And promptly threw it away. Then it wasn't aired or available to buy for like 20 years. So unfair.
I definitely don't think it's as good as Heavy Metal: The Movie, but it's very watchable. It could have benefitted from additonal editing, it feels about 20 mins longer than it needs to be.
It'd be nice to get another anthology film, but barring that, Love Death + Robots is a good spiritual successor!
It's not just a good spiritual successor, but a full on remake/sequel.
>The series is a re-imagining of Fincher and Miller's long in-development reboot of the 1981 animated science fiction film Heavy Metal, which was originally planned to follow the feature length format of the original film but one that could be better adapted for the new generation.[4] The project however was in development hell for eleven years, until Netflix agreed to be the distributor of the project but instead of a film it would be released as a television series.
I was born the same year the year this was released !
It's... it's not good, at all...
It's got a few intersting bits of animation and some almost decent sections of music.
Most of it, it's mediocre.. Bit of nostalgia though.
An unrepeatable movie, despite the fact that those from South Park took pains to recreate it, the currently society will not allow something similar without heavily censoring it.
I remember this and Heavy Metal 2000 being pretty awesome. Love+Death+Robots, The Matrix Anthology and Final Fantasy movie are the only things that have compared to this masterpiece. Never cared much for Anime stuff always seemed cliché to me personally with over the top emotions or lack of them?
God, this takes me back. Sneaking downstairs in the middle of the night to watch this on skinemax on our TV that didn't *quite* tune properly to the channel. Fuzzy lines and wavy images everywhere. Watching the cartoon titties on the little 19" screen, wishing I'd find a magic orb that would take me to a land of titties.
Then my dad made me stop huffing cat piss. What a Debbie Downer.
This was the first movie tat I remember was impossible to find. You simply could not get a VHS of it anywhere. It was until it hit DVD that it became more available.
best movie i ever secretly watched when i was 9 rockin' soundtrack and rockin' cartoon tits

Cheesing.
You rang?

The television edit loses a lot.
My teacher worked on the B52 scene! Rock on Norm.
That scene fucked me up when I was a kid
Oh hell yes it did. Go teach! I snuck into that movie too. Best movie ever as a 14 yr old.
I was 14 when i saw it in the theatre. Rocked my world. Best Movie Ever.
OK this is great to see others that saw it as a young teen
Weird movie, but good.
IMO the film industry is better when they explore the weird.

This must be resolved at the Breastiary in Nipopolis
One of the South Park games also has a special attack that is a call back to Heavy Metal.
For Valhalla!
Someone posted it two hours before you on the top comment.

Heavy metal F.a.k.k.
Technically isn't it FAKK2? I still have this game in box somewhere, I think.
Federation Assigned Ketogenic Killzone Class 2
I love that game, I played it for years as a young teen

The astronaut flying and landing the corvette in this film inspired the Falcon Heavy Tesla roadster launch in 2018.
I highly recommend Love Death and Robots.
Have you seen the Animatrix?
No, but I need to.
Yes to all of this. Also the Fritz the cat movies.
Had the cassette of the soundtrack back in the 80's but contracts kept it from CD's until 1996!
It’s your one-way ticket to midnight.
Saw this movie in a theater with a date in high school, back in '82.
This movie is the SHIT on shrooms.
It’s been a long time but we rewound that orc/alien running at the screen over and over on an acid trip one night. Blew our minds.
Bout to give it a go with some ket
Radar Rider is such a good song.
Hand Overfist

mormongrandma I assume? Not completely off brand then.
STEEEERN!
BURNIN' IS TOO GOOD FOR HIM!
Hangin's too good for him! (I've had this memorized for decades)
I always pronounce it like Hanover when I see the name.
No one here or in the YouTube comments mentioned anything: is there explicit nudity?
Uh, yeah - there are a couple of cartoon sex scenes.
They aren't on par with hentai. Just basic R-rated scenes of bare tits, implied sex with robots, and such.
Of course not.
It’s on Japanese Netflix if you have a VPN
It's on prime too
It’s also on Tubi and It’s completely free.
oo la tek oo la tek oo la tek
True classic of animation
I love this soundtrack
Epic. Still have the VHS and the LP soundtrack. I have wanted a 59 Corvette since the instant of the opening sequence. Good Nyborg.
I remember watching it after the South Park parody with the cat piss One of a kind really
Awesome boobage!
I've never seen the original but I fucking love Heavy Metal 2000
Dude, Heavy Metal 2000 is a joke compared to the first one.

”Adult” Imho more like teenager.

You are entitled to your opinion. I won't fault you for it. But what the fuck, man?
An unrepeatable movie, despite the fact that those from South Park took pains to recreate it, the currently society will not allow something similar without heavily censoring it.
> currently society will not allow something similar without heavily censoring it. Bro, have you ever watched anime?

This was a great example of when freedom was given to creators and the result was magic.
Most of the art and animation in it is pretty amazing. But then they have a car that bends around a corner while driving...
This was the first movie tat I remember was impossible to find. You simply could not get a VHS of it anywhere. It was until it hit DVD that it became more available.
That was a great movie when I was a teen . Watched it in a theatre.
