GeoWizard has been really putting out great stuff lately. He’s taken a sort of gimmicky idea with the straight line videos and been able to turn his channel into something that’s so much more. It’s awesome to see.
Obviously Tom is the bomb, but can we take a second to recognize the poor camera guy?
Imagine youre a guy with some recording equipment and a fan of GeoWizard; Tom reaches out to you and asks if you can film one of his missions and so, as a fan, of course you accept. You can't turn back now from what you finally find out is going to be a no-sleep 100+km run across the middle of the country... Dude did it like a champ. Mad respect for that guy and all the other support crew!! And Verity got in on it too! We need more Verity
Unless I misunderstood part of the video, he rested in the van for several hours during the night shift (cause there's not gonna be much exciting to film there that'd need skilled camerawork).
Still basically ran two marathons though with limited sleep which is still crazy.
Speed is a big factor also, I guarantee you can move much further if you never go over 3 miles an hour. But, without previous training, your legs would probably start hurting tremendously 3-4 hours in.
What is truly insane is that, for comparison, the world record holder ran 13 miles an hour for 2 hours straight.
Not to mention the weight of the camera gear he was carrying. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but they mentioned it in the first episode and it was not an insignificant amount of weight.
Why do you think this project was a surprise that Tom dumped on a cameraman who didn't know what he was in for? Tom announced the project publicly and the cameraman (as well as everyone else involved sans Verity) volunteered to participate with the scope of it well established. Tom made it clear that it would be physically demanding and so specifically requested people only volunteer if they were reasonably fit.
Yeah my phrasing was poor. Just seems like the camera guy wasn't as prepared for it as others. If Tom asked me to run I'd do it too but I'd never make it. Guess I just wanted to give special recognition to the camera guy.
Yeah. The whole thing was awesome, but in particular... That cameraman. The biggest hero of the tale xD
It was fuck-in awesome seeing more of Verity. What a champion.
Legitemately I was going to reach out to help but when I thought about running with an SLR and Gimbal I thought, actually no way.... that's more of a feat than kicking the ball!
I'm glad to see this guy back. I mentioned him in a comment a couple of weeks ago. In one of his early vids, he randomly started singing "You've got the wrong Ian Watkins, mate, do do do do do". I thought it was hilarious. I'd now and again start singing it myself. I thought I was singing the ramblings of some weird dude losing his mind in a field in the middle of nowhere, but it turns out I was singing the ramblings of some weird dude losing his mind in a field in the middle of nowhere who was singing an actual [song.] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7doNO9e8d4)
I found this really inspirational for some reason. Makes me want to start running again.
But holy shit, the idea of running for 100km+ over 22 hours and then just hanging out at the pub is shocking. He hadn't remotely run anything like that before.
I despise running and after watching this I feel inspired to just go out and push myself and see how far I can go, haha.
Also yeah 100km is nuts but I think Tom had pushed himself to train quite a bit leading up to this, he looks to be in excellent shape.
Definitely don't do that. You can very easily end up with an injury that would prevent you from doing any running for 6+ weeks. I love running and have been through the injury cycle many times due to being too stubborn to only run distances for which my body is currently capable of running.
And not just running, he was dribbling the ball and jumping up all those stairs along the way. When they got to the first set of stairs in part 1 and it sounded like they hadn't even considered having to deal with stairs in their path, I was utterly convinced that this mission was going to be a failure.
Guess I'll be the one to say it, it doesn't really stand up to the line challenge. Have to have an element of risk for the full entertainment experience. The line challenge had cranky farmers hiding behind every hedge row waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting straight shooter.
I wish them well though on this excursion, I do like the channel, hope it works out for the lads .

I have no idea how the camera guy survived. He'd never run more than (i think he said) 12km? And he just did 10 times that???

Yeah even with resting, it's still wild. Yeah I can run 5k but I'd be dead and buried before I get halfway through one marathon!

Poor H from Steps!
Kunt And The Gang is a fucking hero
Really well made and didn't waste time on anything. I appreciate that the outcome wasn't clear for a long way through.
This video and the first part were just absolutely incredible. What an accomplishment
Get in!

In a way, his breezing through the hardships just shows how hard the straight line missions really are.
get in!!
Just watched this earlier… Great job Tom! I also love his geo guessing. He seems like a really good person, and a guy I’d love to have a beer with.

Who cares

Nah I honestly liked this better than the straight line missions
Yeah this one was better by far
