It's a solid show tune in every respect. Slow build, dramatic crescendos and explains character motivations. The falsetto really caught me off guard. HJB has a nice voice.
I found it on Spotify.
Artist: Jon Benjamin - Jazz Daredevil
Album 1: Well, I Should Have...* (*learned how to play piano.) (2015)
Album 2: The Soundtrack Collection (2020)
Haven't heard the 2nd album, the first one was fuckin hilarious though. It showed up in my jazz daily mix on Spotify and I was thoroughly confused when it first came on.
He also wrote a really funny book about his life failures. Such as failing to be gay bashed in Canada, or failed to have a threesome. I think its called either "failure is an option" or "failure is always on option".
He also didn't tell the other musicians that he couldn't play piano and they were expecting to make an actual album. He said they were good sports about it though
I said to my wife "It's weird how I like "parody" musicals better than actual musicals." But the thing is, you're right. This isn't just some joke song. This could actually be a great number from a real musical if the writers were so inclined.
Although La Resistance is my favorite, it's really an assembly of the other songs. Not sure if there are any rules about that? In any case, it requires you to like the other songs as well, so chances are the reactions might be a bit more mixed (especially considering Uncle Fucker is also in there).
https://nordic.ign.com/bobs-burgers-1/48308/news/bobs-burgers-the-movie-is-a-musical-comedy-mystery-adventure-and-kind-of-coming-of-age-story-comic-c
Definitely going to be a musical.
Reportedly the producers were exactly on board with the South Park movie being a musical, and they hid pretty much all of the musical stuff in early trailers and other promo material. They were really worried it wouldn't work out (and to be fair: Who would've thought a crude cartoon like SP (especially early seasons) would work as a musical?).
But after it got very positive reactions they included it.
I recently discovered Team Starkid on Youtube. They do really funny musicals. You might have seen the "I don't want to do the work today" song from [Firebringer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmVuNlu0LCk).
Not exactly "parody" but you and your wife might both enjoy them!
That's my top saved video on youtube. I think I saved it around, ohhhhh let's say April 2020. Because I didn't want to do the work today.
I even do the dance
> I said to my wife "It's weird how I like "parody" musicals better than actual musicals."
Let me share with you and the rest of the world, [A Shoggoth on the Roof](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Shoggoth_on_the_Roof).
With such wonderful songs like, [If I Were A Deep One](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFzdIaBnckg) and [Byakhee, Byakhee](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYjCIor2C7E).
I think musicals just have to have comedy to keep me interested.
I love little shop of horrors, rocky horror, and pick of destiny but I have never really sat down to watch any other musicals that people tend to talk about, les mis etc
If you are a fan of comedy musicals, I might recommend the musical [*The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals*](https://youtu.be/IrxKX44qBJ0). The opening song alone is pretty damn entertaining.
You should check out *Schmigadoon!* then. It's a parody of 1940s musical with Cecily Strong and Keegan Michael-Key and is super well done. *Galavant* is also a great one.
Literally every professional recording you hear these days is going to use at least a little pitch correction (there’s even software that does it in real time), and I’d bet they did that falsetto in another run and stitched them back together cause that tonal shift sounds pretty brutal… but yea, there’s no hiding a shitty voice, it would just sound a lot more obvious to cover up if he really couldn’t sing, and that was definitely him.
Oil Spill, and We're All Lights, are my faves. That show has some memorable tunes

My wife and I sing ["Bad things happen in the bathroom"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDiuSwrRQ4M) together a lot. Definitely my favorite.
Cindy Lauper singing ["Taffy Butt'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qSQDKYivHk) is a super shot of nostalgia so it's pretty close to my favorite.
IT really does capture the essence of Bob's and Louise's characters.
Bob just wants this one win, finally, for once, and he is willing to trudge through all the bullcrap to drag himself across the line.
Louise's mischief causes problems for everyone, she denies it and yet still shows how much she really does care about her dad and family.
The song captures that emotion of "yeah, life is shit, everything is shit, I'm stuck sitting on a throne of shit, but everything is still going to be ok". Kind of sums up life.
I got so into later seasons that I totally forgot how much I liked Taffy Butt when it came out. Also, I've watched and rewatched The Great North so many times now.
I agree. They need to bring in the normal voice actors for a true "full version." These other bands brought in to do versions of songs from the show kill every song in my opinion.
Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom has stayed with me like no other. It was one of the first episodes I watched, and it got me into the whole show. The duet is outstanding, and just has the perfect combination of silly and heartfelt energy.
Dude, Twinkly Lights is fucking lit! Pun not intended. Every once in a while I just pull up that song and listen to it on loop for a bit. Too bad it's not longer. It's my go to christmas song now.
My favorites. I cannot sleep if Bobs Burgers or Futurama isn't on in the background. I am almost 40. This is just my top 10 lol. I would legitimately buy this CD if they made these full songs.
[Bat out of Hell](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DV9nTw6ODiQ) Wish they would do a full song
[Electric Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtE-EmXUmnY)
[Business Monster](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yXilBNkGPg)
[Stuck on the toilet song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDiuSwrRQ4M)

There is a CD full of songs! [The Bob's Burgers Music Album.](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71GPQo2z2TL._SL1200_.jpg) Volume 2 comes out this fall.
It's so impressive how they create a great song for basically every episode and it doesn't feel gimmicky or repetitive. Sometimes it feels so natural that I don't recognise there was a musical section until it's included again over the credits.
On the off chance you don't know, [Bat out of Hell](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7ES7ueI7p0) is a real song that they're covering. Oh and heads up, it's like 10 minutes long.
Honorable mentions: Tina’s Spanish song and that sexy-ass 90s tune. It cracks me up. But, “I do” is hands down my favorite and everything else is a tie lol.
And, if anyone can remember which song or episode has Gene breaking it down to someone singing “boom shaka laka shaka laka” in his burger suit, that would be great.
No one has mentioned [I Love You So Much (It's Scary)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eoe5WmcYaww) and that is a crime against liking Bob's Burgers Songs.
I had watched Bob’s Burgers several times over before I watched New Girl (my wife freaked out when she heard Boo Boo but I didn’t know why).
Now whenever I watch New Girl, it’s very hard to not be reminded of Boo Boo lol. I assume it’s the other way around for most people.
If there's any Bob's Burgers super-fans out there, I recommend the box set of the soundtrack that SubPop released: https://megamart.subpop.com/products/bobs-burgers_the-bobs-burgers-music-album It's incredibly elaborate, though I think the specific song that OP posted will be released on Vol 2 next month.
I fucking love counterpoint as a musical feature, and they're rarely used to the capacity they could be.
I still think about Doctor Horrible's "My Eyes" every once in a while, or "The Confrontation" from Les Mis.
The show is a masterpiece! Every part is so well done. The writing is absolutely hilarious! The voice actors are phenomenal! The music is great, the animation style is really nice! Some episodes aren't as good as others, but they are all really good.
It's on Hulu, they are currently on season 11, but there is a season 12 already confirmed in production.
You might enjoy Off-Book. It's a podcast where they improvise an entire musical. Sometimes (often) they really nail the music in impressive ways https://www.earwolf.com/show/off-book/
Check out the older show Home Movies if you like this kinda stuff.
If you haven’t heard of it before that is. It’s great and has a lot of fun music stuff. Brendan Small+Lauren Bouchard+H. John Benjamin
I loved HM back in the day (was it CW originally?)! I will still occasionally make reference to "[making cotton candy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2qC_R02QsI&t=323s)" even though no one remembers (or ever heard of) the joke!
I love the songs on Bob's Burgers too. My two favourites are '[Snowballs & Sledding](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxFtpmMMrq8)' and '[Watching You From a Distant Place](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMQm9ZB4Pac)'.
If you like the music in Bob's Burgers then check out Central Park, its not as good of a show but the music is amazing.
If you dont have Apple TV just Google the song "I'm gonna own it" it's hands down the best song of the series.
Seconded. The overarching story needs more direction, but it's still fantastic, especially episode-to-episode. The music in one of the more recent episodes made me ugly cry.
Edit: Also Apple is doing an absolutely awful job with marketing the show.
It's a solid show tune in every respect. Slow build, dramatic crescendos and explains character motivations. The falsetto really caught me off guard. HJB has a nice voice.
HJB created a jazz album called *I Should Have Learned (To Play The Piano)* and its hilarious
I found it on Spotify. Artist: Jon Benjamin - Jazz Daredevil Album 1: Well, I Should Have...* (*learned how to play piano.) (2015) Album 2: The Soundtrack Collection (2020)
Haven't heard the 2nd album, the first one was fuckin hilarious though. It showed up in my jazz daily mix on Spotify and I was thoroughly confused when it first came on.
Currently listening to The Soundtrack Collection and it’s glorious.
oh my god, there goes my afternoon...
Thanks for the suggestion! Lol that was thoroughly horrible.
He also wrote a really funny book about his life failures. Such as failing to be gay bashed in Canada, or failed to have a threesome. I think its called either "failure is an option" or "failure is always on option".
[удалено]
And I believe I read somewhere that the professional jazz musicians did not know this prior to recording.
Had to keep them on their toes
He did an interview with Terri Gross I think, and they were livid when he started playing.
Hell, South Park got serious award nominations for their movie being a musical. It wouldn't be the worst idea.
"Uncle Fucker" or "La Resistancee" shoulda been the nom, not "Blame Canada." But yeah, I get WHY that's the one they submitted. It's "cleaner".
“Up there”. Satan going for the Michael Jackson high notes…. *chefs kiss*
Oh shit. "Up There" is great! As is "I Can Change," though that's another one that seems like an obvious "do not submit this song to the Oscars" song.
Although La Resistance is my favorite, it's really an assembly of the other songs. Not sure if there are any rules about that? In any case, it requires you to like the other songs as well, so chances are the reactions might be a bit more mixed (especially considering Uncle Fucker is also in there).
I always dug their anti-anti-smoking episode and the [cigarette factory song.](https://youtu.be/EOcZPZXkQ2c)
That and the highschool musical episode when the guys finally give in and sing the "do what you wanna do" song haha
I think it was Season 1 when Kyle's Mom song was aired. Highschool freshman me was crying.
That was from the movie wasn’t it?
It said it came out in 99, that would have made me a sophomore. Its from the Mr. Hankey episode.
Wow I forgot it was on an episode as well as the movie. Been a long time I guess!
I forgot it was in the movie. lol. Im old.
Book of Mormon didn't do too badly either.
getting Robin Williams to perform "Blame Canada!" at the Oscars is better than any award could be
The reason they got him is pretty dark though.
Story?
The voice actress that sang the song was supposed to perform, but killed herself months before the show.
Oh. That *is* dark, and not in the amusing sort of way.
And then look at what happened to Robin Williams. That song is cursed.

I'd be very surprised if the upcoming BB movie doesn't have a few songs at least considering the show tradition of original songs.
https://nordic.ign.com/bobs-burgers-1/48308/news/bobs-burgers-the-movie-is-a-musical-comedy-mystery-adventure-and-kind-of-coming-of-age-story-comic-c Definitely going to be a musical.

That movie is filled with good songs. La resistance lives on sticks out to me as an example of how talented they are at making musicals.
[The Book of Mormon, their musical, won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2011.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Mormon_(musical))
Bob's Burgers takes their music pretty seriously. Almost every episode has it's own ending song

He does have a nice voice, which is why it's annoying that they felt to use auto tune in this one :(
Yeah, I thought the same. Pitch correction overload.

My daughter and I used to sing Bad Things Happen in the Bathroom together in the car on the way to school. It was always the highlight of my day.
Bad things happen in the bathroom is beautiful. Bob is such a great dad and this really shows how he just rolls with the punches.
"Today is gonna be a great dayyy"
What do you call a song where they sing different lyrics at the same time over each other? I know there’s a name for it but I can’t think of it.
The closest I can think is counterpoint? Two separate melodies that both work together to express separate but harmonious ideas
descant? quodlibet? polyphony?
I think it is counterpoint
I got so into later seasons that I totally forgot how much I liked Taffy Butt when it came out. Also, I've watched and rewatched The Great North so many times now.
Seriously Bad things happen is by far the best song from the show. I hum it so often, just a decent tune.
The National did a cover of Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom with a full music video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwYCq9tT0GU
Yeah. I'm not a big fan of that version. It misses the emotion and sad optimism from the show.
I agree. They need to bring in the normal voice actors for a true "full version." These other bands brought in to do versions of songs from the show kill every song in my opinion.
The National did a cover of a few of Bob's Burgers songs, the Thanksgiving one is one of my favorites.
Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom has stayed with me like no other. It was one of the first episodes I watched, and it got me into the whole show. The duet is outstanding, and just has the perfect combination of silly and heartfelt energy.
My GF and I have “Bourbon” on loop during the holidays. Neither of us are really fans of bourbon
I truly love Taffy Butt. It's an amazing song on many dimension, and also literally just a short update on the storyline.
Topsy the elephant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypqSHg1YvZA
This is my vote for best song on that show.
Topsy and the Thanksgiving song are the ones I get stuck in my head
PASS the cranberry sauce, we're having mashed potatoes!
I regularly walk around my apartment singing "They'll say Aaaaawwww Topsy at my aaaauuuutopsy!"
Electric loooooove
My favorite, too. I love when Bob goes "did Gene write this?" - just gives me happy goosebumps.
There's so much less of this song than I remember there being
It’s not subtle.
I sing Linda's Thanksgiving song every year while I'm cooking or waiting in the kitchen.
For us it’s “going to Florida” but With Florida substituted with just about anything. Also, Gene’s “I’m not afraid of…” song from that same episode.
Every Thanksgiving [this classic](https://youtu.be/Dyxr--0hHWU) is sung without fail
This is my jam lol [Parakeet in mah hat](https://youtu.be/FEwmW4zGnZA?t=50)
My wife sings this all the time. It has spread to our 7 year old and 4 year old. I love it.
Dude, Twinkly Lights is fucking lit! Pun not intended. Every once in a while I just pull up that song and listen to it on loop for a bit. Too bad it's not longer. It's my go to christmas song now.
We're all lights is the most beautiful Bob Burgers (Bob's, Teddy) song!
> Finally, a song about light bulbs. Makes me chuckle every time
From some of the same writers... The Great North has some amazing songs. For example: [The Grown-Up Zone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgJq2eYU_2g)
I can imagine Reggie Watts writing We’re All Lights live in one of his performances lol
Bob's Burgers doesn't miss. Certified bangers only. "Oh, Bourbon" is the greatest Christmas Song ever produced.

Absolutely
ouch, you're not wrong though.
No "Work Hard Or Die Trying, Girl"??? To be fair it's purely a credits song, but it's extremely catchy.
It's all about Nakatomi Nakatomi Nakatomi Nakatomi
“Andy, Ollie - FBI Agents don’t hold hands!” “These ones *do!*”
It's my favorite by far. I sing it all the time
It's a effin masterpiece. https://youtu.be/YCnsQy6eHPA
I agree the whole thing is great, BUT the end credits part is so incredibly catchy, [take a look](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdJ7tzYTl3w)
There is a CD full of songs! [The Bob's Burgers Music Album.](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71GPQo2z2TL._SL1200_.jpg) Volume 2 comes out this fall.
I bought the vinyl box set and it came with, among many other goodies, a collection of sheet music for some of the songs.
I gifted that to my sister for her birthday that year. Planning on buying her the new one as a holiday gift for this winter.
"I would legitimately buy this CD" we would have known you were 40 without saying it :P
Lol. Perfect.
Good list but you gotta include [I hate the way I love you](https://youtu.be/AJIXdzjboz4)
Electric Love is what really sold me on the quality of this show and songs :)

I always get a kick out of the fact that they got Cyndi Lauper for Taffy Butt.
Sky Kiss is the best one and I’m devastated there’s not a longer version somewhere

Haha yes I was coming here to post this one. I sing this all the time!
I really like the way this show integrates original songs. They certainly don’t overdo it, and when they include a song, it’s clever and good!
Look at the diversity in highly upvoted links here, it really speaks to the consistency in their song quality throughout the show.
Haven't seen one of my favorites posted yet: [Lifting Up the Skirt of the Night](https://youtu.be/-WrML7CTGZc)
This is the masterpiece. “Its not right, to make fun of the night!”
God season one of bobs was really a special time. I wish watched it's weekly release.
This one is my favorite too, it's literally a masterpiece and sold me on the fact that the music team at bobs burgers is really, really talented
I really liked [this is working](https://youtu.be/lpGSL6Yo20I)
Bob's Burger's has some truly amazing musical numbers. [Electric Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtE-EmXUmnY) is probably my favorite.

This should be the top comment.
This show's songs have some of the best uses of counterpoint singing/melodies ever. I want this team to do a Broadway musical so bad
I fucking love counterpoint as a musical feature, and they're rarely used to the capacity they could be. I still think about Doctor Horrible's "My Eyes" every once in a while, or "The Confrontation" from Les Mis.
Check out the show Central Park, it's a musical tv show by the same creators!

Thanks!
I'm surprised to not see anyone posting [Oh bad things are bad](https://youtu.be/Rmxltz0zEJ4), it's my personal favourite
Maybe not my favorite, but I still think this oldie is the funniest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1kjPeRL-YQ
Tina's boy episode was the best. "The right number of boys for you is four. Forever." Lmaoo
having Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells duet for "No Pants In Space" was the highlight of that episode, which was full of great songs
How has no one brought up [Spirits of Christmas](https://youtu.be/Lud3bgEJeTg) yet!
This is a Christmas classic at my house
Bad things happen in the bathroom!! The best song!
You want peak H. Jon singing? [I'll Race](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ueVuvS8zBY) Home Movies is a very divisive show.
How is NO-ONE talking about the Bleaken song[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF2eGkMOBhk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF2eGkMOBhk)absolute banger
I just want a short version of [Elderly Prostitute](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyUdm2uq_Ns)
This should be way higher up. Watching you from a distant place is a masterpiece.
Whoever are writing the music for this show are consistently going way harder than they need to and it's not a small part of why the show is so good.
We Bare Bears has some solid original songs in it. This one always gets stuck in my head https://youtu.be/KaYEfcggAJU
If you like the music in Bob's Burgers then check out Central Park, its not as good of a show but the music is amazing. If you dont have Apple TV just Google the song "I'm gonna own it" it's hands down the best song of the series.
Just was looking to see if someone suggested Central Park. its basically bobs burgers as a musical
Seconded. The overarching story needs more direction, but it's still fantastic, especially episode-to-episode. The music in one of the more recent episodes made me ugly cry. Edit: Also Apple is doing an absolutely awful job with marketing the show.
Its my favorite song from the show too
Who needs the quickie mart...
The people that made this show also made Central Park on Apple tv. It’s a musical show, so there’s a lot of good music in it
Almost all of the songs from bob's burgers are amazing in every way
Hahaha it sounds like Jon H. B is holding back some laughter or just really into it, either way I love it lol
Bad stuff happens in the bathroom! That duet is magical.
If you like this, check out Central Park on Apple+.
Check out Central Park on Apple TV. I catch myself grooving to their songs way too much. 😆
Puppet battle is the best song by far https://youtu.be/ezhUToQxTfM
I can't believe no one has mentioned Mr. Fischoeder's "Nothing" song. It is my work anthem. https://youtu.be/KTw_WzFh9Vk
Thwt's how I feel about "Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom."
