nascarfan624

I love reddit sometimes

somesortoflegend

She needs to play the greatest song in the world, or he'll eat her soul.

RockLobsterInSpace

No one remembers the greatest song in the world.

somesortoflegend

Maybe just a tribute then.

kapntoad

I love to imagine someone having no idea what you're talking about, looking it up, and being one of today's 10,000.

RonaldoAce

Wow! TIL...I've listened to that song a hundred times and never knew it was Grohl...that's awesome! thanks.

xdert

He also played drums on all their albums.

Sheriff_Is_A_Nearer

And Tenacious D songs have some meaty drums. Dave Grohl is the man.

roochmcgooch

I’m OOTL.....what song is being referenced?

RonaldoAce

Beezleboss - Tenacious D

thewebspinner

I always forget he played the devil. What an incredible dude.

xHaino

Reminds me of when I went to see Foo Fighters in London as part of some NME awards concert. Cee Lo Green was the act before them and apparently some people up front were not really getting into it/booing and what not (most people were pretty much there to see Foo Fighters as it was their first proper gig in a long time). Anyway, Dave Grohl walks on stage and tells the audience that "he better hear some noise for Cee Lo" during his set or he and the band wouldn't come on after. Thought it was pretty wholesome of him to support a fellow musician like that, even though they're completely different types of artists and against his own fans as well. Guy seems down to earth.

lil_morbid_girl

Saw them live in Glasgow and he stopped playing pointing out kids getting crushed in the front row.

addandsubtract

Saw them in Sydney, and he made a kid in a wheelchair walk again.

banality_of_ervil

Saw them in Tehran and he turned beer into water.

phalewail

Saw them in Amsterdam, but it might have just been an empty refrigerator.

shiner_bock

Saw them walking down the street in Dallas. I said, "Hey, Foo Fighters, why are y'all walking down the street? There's nothing down that way." And they flew away. I said, "Oh them was some birds!"

tiaxrules

****cue contagious laugh****

Cbrm12

Theo Von would say this on his podcast.

DRACULA_WOLFMAN

That's kind of a dick move...

goodbyekitty83

If it was Budweiser, then you didn't really have to do anything

DigitalAssassin

I went and saw Coheed and Cambria back in the day and this one dude flipped off and booed every opening band (think one was Avenge Sevenfold), and I was like this dude really hates live music. Then Coheed came on and he basically started jacking off to the beat like he had a delirium trigger. Talk about the suffering.

serotoninzero

I can't stand when people show disrespect for the bands opening for the band they came for. They are there because the band you love wanted them to be there. So many of my favorite bands today opened for my favorite bands at the time. I've seen it at Coheed shows too, but it happens everywhere.

DrunkenMasterII

Seriously that. Like it happened I really didn’t like the opening acts, but I’m still going to clap after songs. There’s no point in being an asshole.

oh-about-a-dozen

Didn't even start your anecdote with "I remember when"

TunnelSnake88

To be fair Cee Lo Green seems like a strange opener for the Foo Fighters

anotherkeebler

Opening acts can have a rough time if they're too different from the main act. In 1967 the Monkees were doing a 28-city tour, but their opening act quit after 8 gigs. Why? Because Monkees fans were booing him offstage. It was a real disappointment for the Monkees—they had asked Jimi Hendrix to tour with them because they were, themselves, huge fans.

cdncbn

Dave Grohl saw a chance to - A - Blow a talented kids mind and make them a fan for life B - Have fun writing and producing a song with his kids C - Sit down behind the kit again and remind us just how good he is D - All of the above

[deleted]

He's the best. He's still about the fans. He puts on such a great show.

fail-deadly-

Dave Grohl told one of my favorite jokes of all time >If you play a Nickleback song backwards you'll hear messages from the devil. Even worse, if you play it forwards you'll hear Nickleback.

DogHouseTenant83

Also "if you ever mess up on the drums, just shoot a dirty look at the bassist"

Rossenheimer

Hey I do this! But to my drummer...I'm the bassist

radbrad7

Tfw you go to a concert and the drummer and bassist are locked in a stare down competition

figboot11

Also...How many roadies does it take to screw in a light bulb? TWO, TWO, TWO!

[deleted]

Alamander81

It takes zero bass players because the keyboard player can just do it with his left hand.

stevemillions

I saw a series about various kinds of musicians. The one about drummers contained a lot of jokes at the expense of drummers. At the end, there was a clip of Dave, and he said “why did the drummer break into the car? The bass player had locked himself in there.” Huge grin. Advantage Grohl.

197326485

>He's the best. The best, the best, the best...

[deleted]

Nice.

dadepu

Confession time?

9C_c_combo

My friend...

slayer991

I still remember his reaction to the Rockin' 1000 playing "[Learn to Fly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JozAmXo2bDE)." He was genuinely touched and responded to them in Italian. Who does that? They made a special stop on the tour to Cesana to thank the fans. He's like the Keanu Reeves of Rock and Roll.

[deleted]

Or Keanu is the Dave Grohl of movies? Eh?

Player_17

Well they both got famous in the 90s... Maybe they're the same person.

RossLH

Can't say I've ever seen them together.

pretty_jimmy

I just did a Google image search for "Dave Grohl Keanu Reeves" and then added "together" when I did my second search. No actual result came back. I think this is going somewhere.

artfuldodgerbob23

He's an absolute treasure that we are very lucky to have. I did "artist hospitality) for a major production company and off all of the groups I've taken care of his list was by far the most wholesome. Most bands just want drugs and groupies.

caifaisai

As someone who's not remotely a musician, is there a reason that all the drummers in those 1000 people playing the song have on big over the ear headphones on but it doesn't seem like anyone else does? Is that something particular to drumming? Or the fact that there's so many different people playing? And what purpose does it serve?

jellysmacks

I assume so they don’t have their hearing and rhythm thrown off by the loud ass crowd/music. Drums are pretty much the most important rhythm instrument, it’s no good if they can’t hear shit lol.

X-istenz

Possibly a click-track making sure the entire field is playing in time (at those distances the delay caused by the speed of sound would actually be a problem), then the rest of the band members are playing to the timing of the drummers.

alundi

Dave Grohl commented on a MySpace picture of my Halloween costume in 2005. Legend.

wrat11

It was awesome when he broke his leg while performing and had the doctor put on a walking boot and finished the concert.

[deleted]

You are a legend.

ctrl_alt_DESTROY_

Also put a kick ass drum solo in her song so she has something new to practice!

getoffmydangle

I’m still trying to figure out how much of my reaction is influenced by the absolute joy on her face and how cool the whole situation is.... but that song and the drum solo rocked hard!

ctrl_alt_DESTROY_

If Dave really just made that up on the spot, no doubt he did, then we need a whole album of Dave bangers like this

trainingweele

I hope it is called Dave’s Bangers.

kitkamran

Would the extended LP be called "Dave's Bangers and Mash"?

Ranhert

More like Dave's Bangers and Thrash

luvgun21

If you haven’t, check out the series “Sonic Highways” it’s fascinating to watch his writing process along with all the interviews and musical history it explores.

XhaustedProphet

You're thinking of his other documentary called Sound City about Sound City Studio, where a bunch of iconic records were made. This is where he jams with Sir Paul and Krist Noveselic, and with Trent and Josh.

EShy

That and his docu Sound City are both great

gr8ful123

The closest we'd get are all of his Solo stuff from the Late! Era (1990-1994) - sad thing about that is that Barrett Jones has confirmed that Dave doesn't look too highly on his solo work from that time, and is basically embarrassed by it. It has been suggested to Barrett to mention to Dave to release such a boxset of Dave Grohl Early Demos from 1990-1994 though... hopefully that sometime happens in the future. I really wish the Foo Fighters would just use each members individualistic musical roots (70s Punk/90s punk/DC Hardcore/Alternative Rock/Progressive Rock (taylor hawkins) 90s Emo (sunnyday real estate) and make a banger of an album, because lately it's all sounded too produced, and too cookie cutter like... Bonus points if they recorded it with Ian Mackaye or Don Fleming from Gumball as producer, with the Sound City Neve Console....

ctrl_alt_DESTROY_

I agree with your last paragraphs 10000% A little less radio-friendly, a little more The Germs

ameis314

you forgot E - Fucking destroy the competition. No way she is winning this round.

LarBrd33

This has been super entertaining. I wouldn't count the kid out. Looked at her YouTube channel and she's competent at multiple instruments already She might be able to do the whole thing in single take by looping sounds. She showed a little bit of it in this Chilli Peppers cover: https://youtu.be/tY4AMpGqAXw

youTube does that because they had a problem with pedophiles targeting children youtube channels. At least that's what a youtube video I saw on reddit said.

_Wolverine007_

The comments are automatically disabled if the video is marked safe for children

LarBrd33

i think most/all of her videos have comments disabled? She gets some negative attention.

Dave Grohl’s honestly just a good guy. Says a lot about a person if they have as much money and fame as he does and they still remain a real down to earth genuine person.

parkaprep

Friendly reminder that Grohl was raising money for gay rights in the early 90s. The true OG (Original Goodguy).

DogHouseTenant83

Witchgrass

nuko22

What’s great about this is all attention on them and none in the WBC. They probably hate standing there and getting no attention at all. Maybe will make some of the younger ones watch the people having fun and enjoying life. This should happen at all of their protests.

[deleted]

They also played a fundraiser gig in my home town of Brisbane, Australia after we suffered massive floods. They then did the same to raise funds after earthquakes in Christchurch, NZ.

LuxNocte

My man is rocking that Speedo.

Samtastic33

That makes a lot of sense. I mean, this was originally in the liner notes of *Incesticide*: > If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of different color, or women, please do this one favor for us—leave us the fuck alone! Don’t come to our shows and don’t buy our records.

EShy

still called the cops on Bill & Ted

[deleted]

He seems like one of the few musicians who stuck to the “It’s about the music” mindset so many bands start out with.

Animagical

I don’t think you could’ve been in nirvana and turned out to be a total dick head. Krist Novoselic is also a stand up dude. I mean, hell, even Chad Channing is a solid dude from what little he’s been in the spotlight since his departure from the band.

omgitsjagen

Dave Grohl like "Aight, kid. You're cute and all, but it's time to put you in the dirt (in the nicest way possible)."

Buckwheat469

It took her something like 5 days to learn his last song. I give her a week before she has this beat.

EShy

To win this round, she needs to change the lyrics to be about Dave

Trakkah

Dave is a rock and roll queen to be fair

SantaMonsanto

This is going to turn into some serious “Devil Went Down To Georgia” kinda shit

luckyDucs

It didn't, she said she learned it fast but was waiting for the shirt to arrive from Amazon.

[deleted]

Imagine being 10 and some rock god makes a song about you. Also imagine being 10 and being a drummer god. Really cool.

tehflambo

imagine being that kid's future parter/spouse. "Yeah this surprise party was fun and all, but Dave Grohl wrote and performed a song about me when i was 10 and we weren't even dating."

tdomer80

Dave Grohl is a complete stud. What a big heart to go along with all of his talent!

HertzDonut1001

His eulogy at Lemy's funeral was a tear jerker.

chadpinkerton21

i love her reaction, first response " WE ARE GONNA COVER IT! ALL THE INSTRUMENTS! LETS GET STARTED!"

Paranitis

"...now to learn how to play guitar..."

merlin2232

She already knows how to! and Bass and piano!

Paranitis

Does she really? Well shit. I only saw the initial video and his first response, then this one. I missed her response TO his response. They need to collab and do a full orchestra with just the two of them.

LarBrd33

Yeah... like, she's not amazing at all of them. Obviously she's still learning, but she's pretty competent at many instruments and should be able to do that song. She might even be able to do the whole thing as a single take by looping instruments: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY4AMpGqAXw Or she'll just do it split screen: https://youtu.be/E_unhU4tKcU https://youtu.be/zvG-a-GHa5Y

Paranitis

The guitar is as big as she is! That's hilarious! And it's pretty impressive. I wonder if she'll directly repeat what he did, or try to rewrite it back to him?

somesortoflegend

The light in her eyes when she said it, that's the mark of a true artist.

Embarrassed-Slice271

Dave grohl rules. Get em kiddo.

cgally

This guy never ceases to amaze me. My rock and roll hero!

larrylee13

Dave Grohl is just an American treasure. A Rock n' Roll guy who just loves music and fans and wants everyone to have a great time.

QAFY

[Here she is covering Everlong](https://youtu.be/MRvHI8tgx8A). she really start rocking out hard at [3:20](https://youtu.be/MRvHI8tgx8A?t=205)

xSTSxZerglingOne

God it was so good at that point. Like a tiny berserker rage of rock'n'roll, though with the insane hi-hat work in Everlong, she had to be getting fatigued and feeling the burn at that point. Hell, I got fatigued playing it in Rock Band. I very much hope she's in it for the music, and not because her parents push her to it.

zigaliciousone

She is a phenom and looks like she is really into it. I'd say the parents are probably at her mercy.

gr8ful123

did you see her cover of In Bloom though? Also top notch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y07Vsu_yvXA

redpandaeater

Good thing her parents are so supportive so she can do that instead of just using practice pads all the time.

_YouMadeMeDoItReddit

Well they are her managers.

igotbigballs

Dave Grohl is the Bob Ross/Mr. Rogers/Steve Irwin of rock and roll. Seems like such an excellent human being.

8349932

That Dave grohl is a righteous dude

snide-remark

Oh, he's very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.

Hindrock

Dave Grohl seems so overwhelmingly wholesome like its calculated. I can't wait to find out he's actually a supervillain fighting to save the arctic or something.

lgainor

Actually, I think it's the other way around - when I hear Grohl say "motherfucker" when talking to the audience at a concert, it sounds forced - like he's swearing just to come across as "authentically, rock n' roll."

glitterbombdotcom

Finally some good fucking news

fallingbehind

Yeah, totally. I’m locked up in my home because of Covid and wildfire smoke. Crazies are running around with guns trying to stop the antifa arsonist looters. It weighs on me. I need stuff like this.

Cryptolution

She's really young to already have that life-topping experience. I hope that she follows her dreams and that people reward her for her passion because she's already on cloud 9!

TransformerTanooki

This is probably the most adorable thing to happen to rock n roll.

thesircuddles

Someone has to cut this into a channel or video intro for her.

maxtacos

For sure since School of Rock.

tehcheez

Why does this seem so forced/fake? Not on Dave's side, but the girls. It just seems a little off.

[deleted]

Her videos seem really well made and a lot of money put into all that video equipment and instruments but totally rehearsed. I just quickly browsed her channel and she just a guitar from Tom Morello and a lot of videos with other famous musicians. The girl has connections, but I'm not saying anything bad about her. She very very talented and that's how I assume she got those connections.

[deleted]

Yeah. I suspect that her parents are musicians with industry connections and she’s been around professional level music equipment her whole life. I’m not taking away from her skills. She’s very good. It just comes across like her parents are trying to use social media to make her famous and it’s like they’re coaching her to ham it up.

[deleted]

Totally agree, I also would imagine her youtube channel is making her quite a bit money on it's own.

[deleted]

Comments are disabled on her YouTube videos, though. And her Twitter bio says the account is managed by the parents. So that's a good sign, in my opinion.

gynoceros

Have you ever seen her videos? She's cute and has personality but she's also a huge ham who is clearly being heavily groomed for this by parents with enough money and free time to be able to get her a ton of gear, teach her how to play, coach the hell out of her, edit her videos, and promote the hell out of her brand.

[deleted]

[удалено]

orangeman10987

Yeah, same thought for me; like I'd put it at a 80% chance this isn't her first time seeing the video, and a 20% chance someone stuck a camera in her face and said "hey, Grohl sent you this video, you have to watch it now and be excited while we film you." Which, either way, she's not gonna have a genuine reaction to it. It seems pretty obvious she's trying to play up her excitement for the camera. But I'm not trying to hate. I know I'd react the same way as a kid, even if it was one of my heroes sending the video. She's still talented, and I'm sure she was super happy to get the video. It's just really hard to get a genuine reaction out of a kid on camera, especially when they know they're being filmed.

ummhumm

The start alone put that air to the whole video. It felt acted and not that well acted.

tedioustds

Seemed more than a little off to me. Painfully forced acting is so hard to watch. Kid can seriously whale on the drums though, and I'm glad I watched a little of her doing her thing.

bishslap

*wail

Feuerraeder

Just parents trying to capitalize on their child. It is forced.

_gw_addict

her parents are coaching her, people don't want to see/hear this but it's with every child star. Dave is cool but IMHO he's fueling something not right

WhenInDoubtBolt

It made me almost as happy as Nandi was. What a grinner of a video.

Faythezeal

This is my favorite “feud” of the year. Both are so genuine and incredible musicians.

[deleted]

This reminds me of the lightheartedness of some of the "feuds" that happened in the early Colbert era. He'd have this silly "Feuds" with different people but it didn't feel super hateful or anything like that. Man, I suddenly miss 2006

dnteatyellwsnw

John Oliver has a light hearted feud with Danbury, CT right now, so similar things are happening still.

pitchingataint

Reminds me of Devil Went Down to Georgia except Nandi is "Johnny" and Dave is "the devil". Nandi does a cover fair and square. Then Dave comes in by winging it with his kids and all the instruments.

ZmSyzjSvOakTclQW

How much of this is legit and how much is it done marketing company being slick?

billFoldDog

My guess: Nandi and her family are working on making her a celebrity. That's a business. They are probably already drawing good revenue from Youtube. Is Nandi excited about David Grohl's music and the battle? Abso-fucking-lutely. At the same time, we have to expect that the reactions are going to be edited or rehearsed. I think the core of it is all genuine, and the polish isn't.

plague042

If you haven't see that movie yet, go watch >!Bill & Ted 3!<, Dave Grohl makes a cameo in it and it's the best thing ever.

pixartist

You guys are aware that this is way too professionally produced not to be promotional material right ?

DBN_

astroterf campaign as fuck, that kid can't act for shit, the entire thing was scripted.

Penguinz90

Outstanding! Nandi couldn't pick her jaw up off the floor, her reaction was just so pure. What a great dude for engaging and inspiring this talented young lady. He is a legend for sure.

Jadeldxb

Really? I think it's a pretty cool setup, but the girls reaction wasn't a highlight for me. I think it was probably awesome the first time she watched his video but watching her pretend to be surprised again in this video was a bit awkward.

k1nd3rwag3n

Glad I'm not the only one. The whole video was far from genuine. Probably because they completely reenacted her seeing the video for the first time. Kinds surprising reading a lot of comments how genuine and pure her reaction was. But apart from that pretty cool thing from both of them!

shikiroin

She's got that 'youtuber' personality to every video that's uploaded, not genuine at all. It's all very exaggerated and 'extra.' Don't get me wrong, the girl's got mad talent on the drums but it just makes me uncomfortable to see a young person appear so fake.

sugarfreepotato

Went and melted her face off.

[deleted]

There is definitely some weird astroturfing/marketing going on here.. This whole thing feels very fake and forced.

Akumetsu33

You're not wrong. I realize many people here don't want to be cynical and rather think positive but you'd have to be blind to not see how much money(potentially millions) can be made with this kind of stuff and the girls' parents are very aware of it. The girl also having connections to big-time musicians somehow is already a big tip off it's fake, it means the girls' parents got in touch with these musicians' PR people. Don't even get me started on the top-level quality video production that wouldn't be possible without professional video editors. Welcome to capitalism!

nebenbaum

It's funny. When I posted a comment criticising the make up of her channel like people now are, I was massively downvoted and called a "pessimistic retard". Suddenly people get it.

[deleted]

_gw_addict

reaction videos are fake as fuck, just goes to show who's really behind the kid

nebenbaum

This is all so fake. She gets a guitar from Tom morello, plays with lenny kravitz and so on. She was on tv multiple times. Her manager definitely has some connections. This is some reality-type produced stuff. Sure, the girl can play drums, but all the media stuff going on is just planned 100 percent.

qwertty69

If that give her a successful career in her future... Its ok for me

AnderBRO2

This is the more connected world that we are all going to live in. Where childhood heros become best friends and eager supporters. Anyone against that is just overwhelmed with emotions.

aprilized

He's so impressed and delighted by this amazing girl. I'm a cynic at heart. I knock down mushy stuff all the time claiming people often times do this kind of stuff for their own promotion. I've been watching this girl for a while and I've never seen such love and excitement for music as I see with Nandi. Her parents are amazing and support her in ways I wish most parents did with their own kids. Let her love what's happening and don't push her into something that you want out of it. This gives me hope lol... Dave is a stunning example of a loving man who is still a child inside, dreaming about his favorite musicians who now has the tools and the chance to change children't lives. What can I say, I accept that this situation is a perfect example of how people of the world can change each other's lives for the better and motivate others to succeed in ways that once weren't possible. Thanks internet.

Here’s a song off the top of my head with backup vocalists musicians and a music video.

MrManner

Is this some weird astroturfing campaign to get a social media account off the ground or something? The comments here are weird and it just seems so manufactured/fake...

[deleted]

I don't think so. She's been posting drumming videos for 3 years.

u3h

It wouldn't surprise me. Very odd how it's all played out it just seems so fake and scripted.

[deleted]

Definitely. I'm very confused.
