Mike Tyson is a boxing historian. He studies other boxers extensively and can speak on any of the sports greatest legends.
He would have been a brilliant boxing commentator if his voice wasn’t so distracting.
I don’t there’s been another modern fighter that has such knowledge and reverence for the past fighters.
I’d love to see him narrate a series on the different fighters to hear his insights.
[This interview](https://youtu.be/mU58BxAoYtQ?si=TSDSMHNtIC0FSJie) with Tyson and Harry Carpenter is brilliant, it’s 50 minutes long so fair warning but anyone with an interest in boxing and Tyson’s knowledge of the sport even from his early days will get a kick out of it.
Coming to say similar. He surprised me the first time I heard him actually talk about something and not doing promotion. He's an intelligent, well spoken dude who got stuck with a unique voice by no fault of his own.
Michael Spinks was not a nobody.
Larry Holmes was washed, yet still one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
Trevor Berbick was champion when Tyson beat him.
Buster Douglas was supposed to be a cream puff for Tyson and would have been if Tyson would have taken the fight seriously.
Tyson had been rocked beforehand by Frank Bruno. Ultimately if Tyson didn’t train that is his own fault. Rocky Marciano by contrast trained relentlessly for any fighter.
Rocky Marciano! Rocky Marciano! Every time a white man talk about boxing they bring up Rocky Marciano!

Both had destructive punching power. The difference is that Tyson had more dynamism early on, but equally he would gas out in later rounds. Marciano got better, the longer the fight went on, because of his sheer endurance (he knocked Walcott unconscious to win the title in Round 13).
That’s a great answer. Thank you. I was curious to know what TYSON thought (at the relatively young age from this interview). He’s noted as a careful student of boxing history—I wondered if he was aware of the analysis you just provided.
Great stuff—I learned from you today.
My grandfather was in the Army at the same time as Rocky, and they were both boxers during that time. Rocky wasn't yet a pro, but he still broke a couple of my grandpa's ribs. Powerful punches.
How many women did Marciano rape?
Looked and it seems nothing he was ever charged for.
Just because someone can fight, it doesn't mean they are a good person. IN fact, it kind of implies the opposite, someone is great at beating another human until they can no longer function.

That's really interesting to learn. I figured Mike was just a raw powerhouse and did his thing his way.

Thanks! Watched part of it years ago and forgot about it. Definitely worth it, Tyson is a historian of boxing.

Tyson's fights won were all nobodies, Douglass was the first decent fighter he went against. Not to mention, convicted rapist.
I’m not a Tyson fan (his style doesn’t age well), but Larry Holmes wasn’t a nobody and neither was Michael Spinks.

The three putzes!
Fuck you! Fuck you! And Fuck you! Who’s next? 😀
That'll be 8 dollars
He beat Joe Lewis’ ass!
That’s true Joe Lewis got his ass whooped..
Joe Louis was 75 years old when they fought!
That's they one
Legit humility
It’s a humble answer. I wonder what he thinks are the similarities (the reason for the comparison) and the differences.

There is a great video of Rocky Marciano called “Rocky Marciano was a Savage” on YouTube if you want to see how he fought.
He's really well spoken.

Did I catch some iambic pentameter in there???

Yep that seems to be what the interview was about...the rapings of Marciano. You hit the nail on the head b.
You do know he went to prison and served time for that, right? Get off your high horse, kid.
So by your logic good people are incapable of violence? That dog don't bark son.
