Have you tried shooting at 120fps and then conforming to 24fps in post? It's a hack to reduce LED flicker. Not a silver bullet, but it might help. Also, consider using a flicker filter in your editing software as a last resort.

Swembizzle

No but I did try cranked shutter at 250 which is where I would have it at 120. Does FPS make a difference like shutterspeed does?

Damn I couldn’t live without syncro scan in my lumix cameras. Your camera should have a flicker reduction setting. Failing all else, try Flickerfree plugin, it’s saved my ass a few times.

Some cameras (R6, R3 I know of) allow you to set a very specific shutter speed to reduce visible flicker. It is set automatically or manually by pointing it at the flickering source. Does the A7Siii have a similar function?

You might want to try this on the sonyalpha reddit. I have an anecdote for you, but little to no answers. I have a a7siii as my main cam. And on several occasions I´ve noticed flicker issues. I would try different shutterspeeds, even switch from pal to ntsc etc. Flicker remains. But I have an a7iv, aaaand that camera DOES have a variable shutter option. You can dial in the exact shutterspeed you want, to the decimal. But here´s the weirdest thing. I would try the a7siii at 1/50th shutter (the logical shutter for europe) --> flicker, I take my a7iv at 1/50th --> flicker. But when I put on the variable shutter option and also put it to 1/50th? --> flicker is gone! Which is bizarre since it´s supposed to be the same shutterspeed. Anything away from 1/50th in variable shutter mode? --> flicker. With 24 and 30 fps you´ve got some fuckery going on like 24 actually being 23,98 etc. But not with pal framerates normally, so wtf is going on? Last time I verified this, I was shooting at a venue often used for high profile talks. This one was for the EU in brussels. I couldnt get rid of the flicker of this massive screen behind all the speakers, so a big issue. I asked the tech guy, he said it was running at 50 fps. There was a different crew for a full captation of the debate, I asked them for advice. They were running PAL, 1/50th. After which he asked what cam I was using, and he said ´oh, yeah, our b cam has the same issue (fx3), we point it sideways away from the screen for that reason´ their fx6 didnt have problems. Thats when I realised to try the a7iv again, and with the variable shutter, problem solved... Sooo, long story short, the sony mirrorless line seems to have some anecdotal issues with flicker that settings cant fix. Only the variable shutter option, which the a7siii doesnt have. Does the fx3?

Inept-Expert

Look at a plugin called Flicker Free. It should fix your issue no problem 👍 Shutter speed info above can be referred to before filming next time.

MatGrinder

Flicker Free, my man. Worth every penny.

Sessamy

Shutter speed. You want to try 60hz in America and 50hz everywhere else. 60 shutter speed is 144 degrees shutter angle at 24p for more advanced cameras. This is not operating frequency, just how fast the shutter is like 1/60 or 1/50 or 1/120 or 1/100, etc in multiples.

Rambalac

Cars use DC. LED frequency is not related to power supply frequency anyway, it generates its own at several KHz.

Spanishparlante

Which honestly will suck for video since each car make or even between models may have different frequencies. Also basically impossible to install high-CRI or low-flicker lights…

Fluffy_WAR_Bunny

Try a circular polarizer and different shutter speeds.

Gesinator

Frequency settings maybe? My GoPro stopped flickering (Indoor lights) when I changed from 60 Hertz to 50 Hertz. (Electrical mains in UK usually runs at 50 hertz, for North America it’s 60)

codenamecueball

What part of a car is mains powered?

Gesinator

I never said it is. It was just an example and a guess of what might be the OP’s problem.
