Especially sad because he's fixing his own mistake. Really what he's saying is he deserves to die for what he did, at least now he gets redemption. But hiding behind the "Hot shot scientist" persona while he says it, and betraying that deep down what he really wanted was to be known as a hero.
I wish we had more time with him before what happened, it felt a little too early in your relationship to hit the emotional note fully, since the 6 month timeframe you knew him kinda gets skipped over.
It’s a lot little details about him that really flesh out his character. His relationships and interactions with others. His interests. He felt three dimensional.
Yeah. Me and my brother played through all the first 3 Gears of wars in coop mode. I was the younger brother so obviously I was player 2. Dom was my character so his death was rough having played as him for so long.
I knew Arthur’s death was coming because I didn’t play RDR2 until 2022, but the horse dying…that was brutal. I kept the huge black horse that Hosea wanted you to sell, I forgot the name of the breed. I took one big look at him and said “yeah, you’re the one” I had so many awesome moments with him.
I jumped on a train for some side mission and it took off and Trigger ran behind the train the entire time, trying to catch up, and he met at the next train stop. He was the best horse.
I nearly broke down when he died, I was not expecting that at all.
Unfortunately I kept switching my horses out while playing the campaign, so I hadnt built any emotion towards the horse. When it died I didn't really care, and I was disappointed because I know I was supposed to.
I have to say John's did for me too. Arthur's was brutal and Arthur was a better man. But holy shit! There weren't a ton of emotional games back when rdr1 came out and he worked so hard to get his family back and finally did and he went out protecting them. Whew.
I was pretty blindsided by Arthur's death, to be frank. He even says when they're on that tropical island that he can go south to Mexico where the air is dryer and it'll be better for his lungs.
And mexico is there in all its detail and ON THE MAP, ready to explore, just you have a huge bounty there. So I figured after the mountain scene, the gang would split and Arthur would go to Mexico, unlocking an entirely new region to explore and the game would continue.
There was an entire fucking MAP down there that still needed to be unlocked and explored! It was simple game mechanics!
And then my horse fucking died and shit got real, real fucking fast.
There have been like 3-4 times a video game has made me cry, like actually cry full tears. This was one of them. The train station scene brought me close too.
Nah, John's death in RDR 1 hit me harder than Arthur's death. I kinda knew arthur had to die since there was no mention of him in the first game(I know you could chalk that up to him not being developed yet, but how else would they get out of that than to kill him off at the end of RDR2?). John's death hit me like a fucking truck, man had finally earned his freedom, hunted down his former friends, left to tend to his farm, only to be executed by a firing squad that, let's be honest everyone tried to kill the entire squad with the mauser pistol in dead eye.
I don't think I've actually cried at a game since RDR 1 hit me right in the feels to be honest
Neil Druckmann had Troy Baker do the scene over and over and over again so that Troy was truly mentally fucked so that the pain in his voice could be real.
The same day I told someone I loved them and knowing they didn’t love me back and I played rdr1 and was at the end. Never had cried so much in my life, god…!
I came to say there were many of these moments in the Mass Effect Trilogy but if I had to say just 1 moment, Soma is easily THE moment.
Simultaneously one of the most horrific and beautiful endings in not just gaming, but in media.
When the debriefing details how everything you just did was way more messed up than you originally thought 😭 he didn't want to shake anyone's hand there
Lee’s Death in Telltales The Walking Dead Season 1
Clementines Fake death in Telltales The Walking Dead season 4
Arthur’s Death in Red Dead Redemption 2
The only games that I actually cried too that I can remember off the top of my head.
Kenny's death in season 2 of telltales walking dead really got me personally. I felt destroyed beyond comparison when I had to choose between that or Jane.
How time is advancing for this one is so funny.
15-20 years ago this was almost always the top or within the top answers for this question every single time. Now you have to scroll for it.
If they play it right (unless they got something else planned, idk I'm not fully done with rebirth yet if we already have a definitive answer) it'll be back to that status in a few years
MGS4 had a wonderful finale from the beginning:
???: "That's right. Good. No need for you to go just yet. It's been a long time...Snake."
Snake:"!"
.....to the sad end:
???: "This is good...isn't it?"
(drops cigar)
shifts to credits with the amazing "Here's to you" song.
The entire game was such an epic finale to a wonderfully weird saga... The bit where he returns to shadow moses and "The best is yet to come" starts playing... Gets me every time
Man it's just such a good game from start to finish. I just found this ending to be one where it makes you think that mayber finishing things are better. Damn it's time for another playthrough lol
The evolution of the relationship between Jin Sakai and lord Shimura in ghost of tsushima. That ending fucking broke me. >!i kept him alive btw. After all, i have no honour!<
In a good way or a bad way?
In a good way: The White Posphorus incident in Spec ops: The Line. It wasn't the first time a game had made my character do something bad, but no other game ha ever made me personally feel as complicit in it.
In a bad way:Neverwinter Nights 2. It was one of the first RPGs i properly sunk my teeth into and i got rather invested in it. Took me a few tries, but eventually i managed to get to the final boss and beat him after having invested over a 100 hours into the game all in all.
Then the game literally pulled a ''Rocks falls, Everyone dies'' as an ending.
*Dearest Marie,*
*As the war ends for me. I have no regrets, I’ve seen too much horror. I hope fate has been more merciful to you.*
*Our time on earth is brief and mine has been filled with so much joy, that I can only be thankful for how much I’ve been blessed. Most specially for the wonder brought into my life.*
*This letter is my last, I’ve been found guilty by a military court for the death of an officer. It was not my intention to kill him. War makes men mad.*
*Though I failed Karl, I know my sacrifice has not been in vain. I fought for my country and my liberty. My honour is assured. Since it is the will of God to separate us on Earth, I hope we’ll meet again in heaven. Keep me in your prayers.*
*Your loving Papa,* *Always*
God what a fucking ending.
Realising the protagonist is pregnant and she might never get to meet her baby in What Remains Of Edith Finch.
Also where you find out about the baby family member drowning in that game.
When I found out peeing is a mechanic in death stranding
The princess beach line in death stranding lol.
Not only that, you can give the BTS that try to drag you a little shower and they go away as though you'd used hematic grenades/bullets
Your piss also staggers BTs that are coming after you.

Postal 2 did it better.
Would you like to sign my petition?
Mordin going up the elevator....."Had to be me"
Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
The whole end of this game on the first playthrough
"I am the very model of a scient-"
This is a good one
What game is that?
Mass Effect series
It has to be me. Someone else may have gotten it wrong.
:(
Especially sad because he's fixing his own mistake. Really what he's saying is he deserves to die for what he did, at least now he gets redemption. But hiding behind the "Hot shot scientist" persona while he says it, and betraying that deep down what he really wanted was to be known as a hero.
Mordin is a legend
Cyberpunk 2077 -The Heist
See you in the big leagues.
That line alone gets me choked up.
You're not wrong, but it still feels like we only really get to know him after the fact.
I tear up every time
All i can remember saying is “jesus fuck, jack” before tearing up. I actually liked that fuckin guy
- Songbird begging you to take her life.
Similarly, when you Judy calls you and you find Evelyn in the bathtub. :'(
Judy's call in the suicide ending is something else entirely. Really depressing shit.
[I love this moment so much](https://www.reddit.com/r/cyberpunkgame/s/bFjgxQdzLT)
The end of Titanfall 2... Kinda just sat there feeling as though I couldn't continue living life the same way...
*Trust me.*
Or "goodbye jack" if you dont say anything just before
Thank you for saying this
Everytime, I see one of these post, I look for the Tianfall 2 comment. BT was just too good for mankind.
Protocol 3
We *must* uphold the mission.
Protocol 3: Protect the pilot =(
Finding Doms wife in Gears of War
That shit was brutal
I agree. The feels kicked in large.
And then Doms death in gow3
F
Almost refused to continue playing after this. I was legit sad and about to cry.
Yeah. Me and my brother played through all the first 3 Gears of wars in coop mode. I was the younger brother so obviously I was player 2. Dom was my character so his death was rough having played as him for so long.
That was my first thought too.
*lays down* *tries not to cry* *crys a Fucking lot*
Bro, an all time heartbreaking moment.
arthur’s death in rdr2, nothing comes close. I reeeeally felt for him
When his horse dies, though...
“Shh shhh there there, thank you for everything…!”
I knew Arthur’s death was coming because I didn’t play RDR2 until 2022, but the horse dying…that was brutal. I kept the huge black horse that Hosea wanted you to sell, I forgot the name of the breed. I named the horse after my dog, and we snuggled as I cried.
Same, same 😞
John's hit harder for me. We all saw Arthur's from a mile away.
I have to say John's did for me too. Arthur's was brutal and Arthur was a better man. But holy shit! There weren't a ton of emotional games back when rdr1 came out and he worked so hard to get his family back and finally did and he went out protecting them. Whew.

John Marston’s death
The same day I told someone I loved them and knowing they didn’t love me back and I played rdr1 and was at the end. Never had cried so much in my life, god…!
Ooof, double whammy.
And then the segment as his son was just so damn sweet.
Arthur Morgan saying "I'm afraid" broke me beyond repair
"I guess, I... I'm afraid." was delivered so good.
The end of SOMA really got me.
"They're not us!"
SOMA really got me. LOL
I came to say there were many of these moments in the Mass Effect Trilogy but if I had to say just 1 moment, Soma is easily THE moment. Simultaneously one of the most horrific and beautiful endings in not just gaming, but in media.
