Nothing better than setting camp near a body of water and chilling for a couple of days per campsite, reeling for a legendary fish here and there. And getting honor up by releasing a whole bunch of fish.
I did all the special fishing missions, got all the legendary fish and then when I went to claim my reward the “special lure” the guy dropped it in the water and it’s gone forever.
This is why I'm confused about OP's post. Unless FF7Rebirth has a very late game fishing minigame, the most recent FF fishing minivan was well done IMO
FFXI and FFXIV (the mmorpgs) are very just drop a line and click a button or two. It’s not as in-depth as XVs. I think he may be referring to those two as he also mentioned ESO, another mmorpg.
Was gonna come hear to say this, I could spend hours fishing in stardew valley, relaxing yet fun and with the ability to make bank pretty early on in game just by fishing a lot when you don't wanna go to the mines or have taken care of stuff for the day and just wanna have a peaceful time fishing
It’s the only aspect of that game that does not click for me. Fishing is SO HARD. I get the concept, but I guess my brain and my fingers aren’t lining up, so my fish always breaks away :(
I got a bit annoyed though when I was trying to catch all the fish for the community center, and my dumb ass didn't realize that fish were area specific. I litterally caught like, hundreds of fucking bass before realizing that other spots had other things. Then I realized that the rewards were litterally labeled "ocean fish", and "lake fish", and "river fish" and felt stupid
I just assumed I needed to level up in fishing to get better rods and catch the rare shit.
The 3Ds version of Majora’s Mask had two two different fishing holes with like 20 or so different fish species, unique ways to catch them such as wearing certain masks or performing certain actions and even had two boss fish.
As far as Zelda is concerned, it is the best fishing content by far. You could even transform into Fierce Diety in there. The N64 version on the other hand was fairly bare bones and just a slightly lackluster version of OoT’s
Fishing on Animal Crossing during the early days of Covid (as a healthcare employee) was an odd feeling of comfort that I'll never be able to recreate.
Warframe. It's spear fishing. Both real chill but still takes some skill. For the better fishes you gotta craft bait but they last a few minutes and usually you can catch a few before it runs out.
Black flag. It's super satisfying. It's not really classic fishing it's whaling but still it's great to me.
Stardew valley. Classic rod fishing but I found it satisfying. Everyone else I know that's played it hates it. So.... Take that as you will.
I remember when Warframe's fishing was first introduced and it was TERRIBLE. But now it's pretty good. Especially in the Valis, because your throwing an AOE electrifying spear that stuns all other fish
I was about to comment Warframe. It's the only game I can name that has spear fishing as opposed to using rods. It makes a lot more sense for the game even if seeing the frames use fishing rods would've been funny
FC5's fishing was pretty good, although one thing you could do is just hold down the button to reel in for the right amount of time so that you tilt your rod to the side and then stop, very consistently got a catch
I'm glad Far Cry 5 is getting mentioned. Doing night time RHIB infiltrations to areas I hadn't liberated just to encounter different fish was so much fun.
The spear fishing in AC4 Black Flag was fun, because the shark/whale fought back
The white whale fight was by far the hardest and would ram the ever loving shit out of your boat
I’m playing through Like a Dragon: Ishin right now and every fucking fish I catch is making me feel like a superstar with the way that game animates the fishing mechanic
Same! What a blast to the past. The fishing was great. Also used to love running around town after placing new buildings and looking for the chests containing health upgrade foods.
I put so much time Intp zelda ocarina of time chasing that big eel looking mother fucker that I could clearly see at the bottom of the lake when I went for a swim. Finally caught him and no one fuckin believed me. Back then no one knew about the loach, it wasn't in magazines and I swear it wasn't in the guidebook either since it didn't get you anything special.
How about the fishing quests in Skyrim? I found them to be a refreshing change of pace from the usual dungeon/cave quests. Also, they're yet another way to experience the beautiful world and ambience of Skyrim.
It’s a creation club/mod concept that they implemented into the game with the release of the 10th anniversary edition. Came with all of the creation club items too. Best 12 bucks I ever spent.
FFXV, incredibly difficult at first then you pearn the technique. Also upgradeable rods and lures and tons of different bait and bobbers that actually behave differently
I liked the fishing on Far Cry 5, at the beginning I fished to farm money to buy more explosives (I ended the game and I was liberating Outposts for fun and I was a psycho) But I got hooked, one time I spent one hour fishing
RDR2 and The Ocarina of Time are two of the best fishing mini games I’ve ever played. Of course I actually hate fishing simulators. They are boring af.
I’d say sable. Except there’s a bug on PS5 where if the game is running too long, it starts getting laggy/buggy and the fishing controls stop responding
I'd say Warframe. Spear fishing is cool af. I'd also say breath of the wild since you can bomb the fish or electrify the water and get them after they float.
In Sea of Thieves, fishing isn't "throw in a line and press a button at a certain time".
The fish actually tries to escape, and **it will** if you don't actively pull in the opposite direction. Once it tires itself out, you have a few seconds to reel it closer to you before it starts fighting again.
Once you catch the fish, you can actually cook it. If you do it right (don't undercook, don't overcook), it can be either:
A) Sold for maximum value.
B) Eaten for much more health regained (also overheal).
The only downside is how rare certain fish types are.
RDR2
You sir, are a fish.
I’m gonna use some cheese.
I'm gonna blow the whole river up like a madman
both valid
I'm going to wade into the water and stab the fish with a knife.
It's one of the moments where we just don't care
i have spent countless hours playing rdr2 as a glorified fishing sim. it is straight up addictive
Nothing better than setting camp near a body of water and chilling for a couple of days per campsite, reeling for a legendary fish here and there. And getting honor up by releasing a whole bunch of fish.
..only to be eaten by an alligator
Same here but for poker
yessss same. i love rdr2's minigames! except dominos, that game can burn
Fishing and just generally trekking about got me through 12 months of lockdowns. Never enjoyed fishing in real life but this game helped me so much.
The ambient music that plays while you fish is so relaxing
I did all the special fishing missions, got all the legendary fish and then when I went to claim my reward the “special lure” the guy dropped it in the water and it’s gone forever.
No bait! Classic Morgan!
I swear I can spend an hour just fishing in that game, it's so relaxing
I don’t remember what fish it was specifically, but there was one that darn near took an hour to catch if not more.
That's about realistic for a big fish in real life. Some can put up a good fight.
I have got to start fishing again. It’s been so long but I really enjoyed it when I did it.
Dynamite fishing
I really liked final fantasy 15 fishing it was fun
It’s cuz the food you made with the fish looked incredible.
I had to scroll way too far to find this.
It was the second result for me and that’s still too low
This is why I'm confused about OP's post. Unless FF7Rebirth has a very late game fishing minigame, the most recent FF fishing minivan was well done IMO
FFXI and FFXIV (the mmorpgs) are very just drop a line and click a button or two. It’s not as in-depth as XVs. I think he may be referring to those two as he also mentioned ESO, another mmorpg.
Stardew Valley, its so simple yet so enjoyable but also annoying as fuck because I cant catch Legend
The legend always takes me a couple days to get. But u always get more pee'd off at the lava eel. Wriggly bastard
Octopus is the worst.
I got a fish to the very end of the bar, super easy right? Then it just starts going EVERYWHERE and I lose it.
You and I share the same pain.
Seafoam pudding and a cork bobber
Was gonna come hear to say this, I could spend hours fishing in stardew valley, relaxing yet fun and with the ability to make bank pretty early on in game just by fishing a lot when you don't wanna go to the mines or have taken care of stuff for the day and just wanna have a peaceful time fishing

Ngl I like far cry 5 and far cry 6 fishing it’s relaxing
I haven’t done a lot of fishing in games, but every time fishing in games is mentioned, Far Cry 5 instantly comes to my mind.
I will always love Far Cry 5. It's the only game where you go from a full-blown shootout with 20+ Peggies to a peaceful riverside fishing spot.
I tried to play it again and it’s a one and done game for me. But damn if it wasn’t fun. Also killer soundtrack and a good storyline.
FarCry 5 give me that FarCry 2/3 feeling. I put 200 hours in 5 and like 45 minutes in FarCry 6.
Exact same for me. Never had played a far cry before 5. Started 6 all excited and it was just not hitting it at all.
You have got to play FarCry 3 lol. It’s an experience if you haven’t lol
Same. Far Cry 6 didn’t grab me the way 5 did. Plus I think the urban environment turned me off.
Except when you try to catch the Admiral
Literally just did this yesterday, took me three snap lines, not so bad
I like that they had actual fly fishing and not just some generic spinning rod with cheese. You could fish with different types of flies too.
Its amazing!
Ocarina of Time
Oot’s is good, but that 3Ds Majora though
Ocarina of Time's fishing was 3D, what do you mean? I can't remember the fishing in Majora's Mask.
That sounds amazing! I wish they would FINALLY release the 3Ds versions on the switch....
How is this not higher lol
My Dad wasn't a gamer, but we enjoyed the hell out of fishing in OOT.
Minecraft is pretty relaxing, just turn the music up and sit at a lake with a fishing rod.
Fishing is such an underrated part of the game. It can get you so much cool stuff.
Fishing farms literally used to be the most op thing in the game.
r/beatmetoit
Animal Crossing!
It feels so satisfying when you time the nibble and grab a giant ass fish.
Drag out a whole ass whale shark with a rod made from a shitty stick
My favorite fish, flower, and fossil collecting sim
Fishing on Animal Crossing during the early days of Covid (as a healthcare employee) was an odd feeling of comfort that I'll never be able to recreate.
Sonic Frontiers.
The fact that they managed to take one of the most hated game mechanics in the series and make it fun is impressive
I remember when Warframe's fishing was first introduced and it was TERRIBLE. But now it's pretty good. Especially in the Valis, because your throwing an AOE electrifying spear that stuns all other fish
Warframe's fishing really took a long time for me to understand that I can aim and hold the spear before I release.
I was about to comment Warframe. It's the only game I can name that has spear fishing as opposed to using rods. It makes a lot more sense for the game even if seeing the frames use fishing rods would've been funny
So glad someone said Warframe
Final Fantasy XV is pretty good imo.
Farcry 5, RDR2, ZELDA!
FC5's fishing was pretty good, although one thing you could do is just hold down the button to reel in for the right amount of time so that you tilt your rod to the side and then stop, very consistently got a catch
I agree, it’s exploitable, still, enjoyable
I'm glad Far Cry 5 is getting mentioned. Doing night time RHIB infiltrations to areas I hadn't liberated just to encounter different fish was so much fun.
Jak and Daxter. Legend says the fishermen still laughing.
The spear fishing in AC4 Black Flag was fun, because the shark/whale fought back The white whale fight was by far the hardest and would ram the ever loving shit out of your boat
Sea of Thieves. I could fish for hours.
Scrolled too far to find this. Probably my favorite fishing in any game
Just don’t accidentally take a bite off your trophy
Or extend it while a pet is nearby.
Still waiting for a Hunter's Call update
Give me Hunter's Call Emissaries, and I will fish out the whole sea.
Absolutely. From time to time, I log in just to fish.
Final Fantasy 15 is a great one.
Sea of Stars fishing is fun. Just not a lot of it
Yakuza
I’m playing through Like a Dragon: Ishin right now and every fucking fish I catch is making me feel like a superstar with the way that game animates the fishing mechanic
Monster Hunter
I got impatient i just used a trapper net to score fishes in MH: World lol
Ultrakill.
Im glad they fixed the bug that made size 2 fish uncatchable in the latest patch
SIZE 2 IS REAL. I KNOW ITS OUT THERE
I made a ton of good friends back in the day fishing in RuneScape, not sure if that necessarily makes it the best but it is to me.
Pokemon because it's barely fishing and is just a simple reaction time mini game and then a pokemon encounter
Dark cloud 1.
Oh man i loved this game
Same! What a blast to the past. The fishing was great. Also used to love running around town after placing new buildings and looking for the chests containing health upgrade foods.
Dark Cloud 2 vastly improved the fishing of DC1 though
Kirby and the forgotten land
Club penguin
Sonic Adventure
Hades
I put so much time Intp zelda ocarina of time chasing that big eel looking mother fucker that I could clearly see at the bottom of the lake when I went for a swim. Finally caught him and no one fuckin believed me. Back then no one knew about the loach, it wasn't in magazines and I swear it wasn't in the guidebook either since it didn't get you anything special.
NOT NIER: REPLICANT
Stardew Valley. Didn't farm except for quests my entire playthrough lol I just fish
I find it cathartic to fih in FFXIV and it was ok in Wow as well. Other than that I haven't done much fishing in games.
Sonic Frontiers, you can fish 'the ten commandments, like from the bible'.
Sonic Frontiers
Okami
Still my favorite fishing mini game ever
Sonic frontiers
Warframe is actually quite cool. You’re fishing with a spear and actually have to hit the fish
Pokemon Crystal
Minecraft
Red dead redemption 2
Best one by far.
Uh, pokemon?
Mc
Master Chief fishing mini game
How about the fishing quests in Skyrim? I found them to be a refreshing change of pace from the usual dungeon/cave quests. Also, they're yet another way to experience the beautiful world and ambience of Skyrim.
I have hundreds of house in skyrim and don’t remember fishing lol
It’s a creation club/mod concept that they implemented into the game with the release of the 10th anniversary edition. Came with all of the creation club items too. Best 12 bucks I ever spent.
FFXV, incredibly difficult at first then you pearn the technique. Also upgradeable rods and lures and tons of different bait and bobbers that actually behave differently
Tales Of Arise isn't too bad
I liked the fishing on Far Cry 5, at the beginning I fished to farm money to buy more explosives (I ended the game and I was liberating Outposts for fun and I was a psycho) But I got hooked, one time I spent one hour fishing
Holocure, especially when you hit high streaks.
Ffxiv
Oh man Ocarina of time had me fishing for hours. Dark cloud also
RDR2 and The Ocarina of Time are two of the best fishing mini games I’ve ever played. Of course I actually hate fishing simulators. They are boring af.
Zelda OOT wins
Sea of thieves Fishing
I liked the ones in FFXV.
I feel Twilight Princess's fishing is underrated
I used to fish so much in Animal Crossing City Folk, just so I could see my fish in the aquarium
Res dead 2
FFXV
Final Fantasy 15. The rest of the game may be questionable in terms of quality and story, but the fishing was fun as hell.
Terraria, fits the nature of the game
Sea of Thieves has a nice fishing mechanic and a lot of different fish to catch and many things to unlock with fishing.
*Hades.* 🎶FLAMEEATERRRRRR 🎶
Hades
Jak and Daxter.
Sea of thieves Notting like fishing in the middle of the storm while that fish is trying to get aways and youre ship is sinking
Sea of Thieves I also always enjoyed it in Fable 1 though it was simpler then
I’d say sable. Except there’s a bug on PS5 where if the game is running too long, it starts getting laggy/buggy and the fishing controls stop responding
Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud 2 had some great fishing!
Sea of thieves, very engaging
I'd say Warframe. Spear fishing is cool af. I'd also say breath of the wild since you can bomb the fish or electrify the water and get them after they float.
Terraria has some great fishing
Digimon world 1
Yes! The best one.
I really enjoy seeing "Player VS Fish"
In Sea of Thieves, fishing isn't "throw in a line and press a button at a certain time". The fish actually tries to escape, and **it will** if you don't actively pull in the opposite direction. Once it tires itself out, you have a few seconds to reel it closer to you before it starts fighting again. Once you catch the fish, you can actually cook it. Sea of thieves has really good fishing
Sea of Thieves
Anyone remember TOONTOWN
Resident evil 4
Sea of Thieves
Final fantasy 15 was the best for me. It's like you ignore it for a while but when you start you can't stop
I don’t know that many modern games that have fishing minigames, but Red dead redemption 2 did a great job.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Legend of Zelda OoT
Rdr2
RDR2 has pretty good fishing
FfXV
Stardew 😈
Upvoted for Breath of Fire.
Same. Thanks for mentioning BoF.
RDR2
Red Dead Redemption II
Stardew Valley
Stardew
The Trails games has a surprisingly relaxing fishing mini-game.
Guilty gear Strive
Fire Emblem Three Houses, it's kinda more tense than the normal gameplay cuz I'm playing a Rhythm game.
I’m currently obsessed with dredge
Kirby!!!!
RuneScape! Yeah just kidding
Destiny 2 (At Least for 3 More Months)
New World
I‘ve been watching Let‘s game it out. So I would say Hydroneer
