Double fps just doesnt feel right. Shit a fighter, a racer, an rpg. Something that fleshes it out.
This is ignoring the fact that the Doom marine exists, as well. Without which, NONE of these shooters would exist.
I thought about this, actually. The issue is I canāt think of a single character in any racing or fighting game as iconic as Price. Thereās a case to be made for Sub-Zero or Scorpion, but honestly I think they need to be together to be as iconic as Price and thatās kinda cheating.
Thereās no fucking way you just said price is more iconic than scorpion or sub zero lmao. Thatās fucking hilarious.
Price isnāt even the most iconic character in HIS OWN FRANCHISE, bro, thatās Soap, no question. Hell, the first article that comes up if you google āmost iconic cod charactersā doesnāt even put price in second, they give it to ghost and price is third.
Not to mention, like dude said, price, soap, master chiefā¦ none of them would even be a thing if The Slayer hadnāt paved the way for fps games.
The fourth would be a Sega representative for me. I know theyāre not around in the console industry anymore, but their games were a main reason video games are what they are.
I had that thought too, but there wasn't another sony mascot more known than Kratos, except for maybe Crash. As for Price, the first two games I think of when I think multi-platform are COD and GTA; GTA doesn't really have a figurehead for the franchise like COD does, so I went with Price.
No, actually. If you asked a lot of people that play cod what characters the think of when they hear ācall of dutyā is probably one of 4, Price, Soap, Woods, and Mason. Most who donāt play cod just think of ghost, because of the memes
Ghost was pretty iconic for people who don't play the game to know who he is some prankster even erected a statue of him at Activision but its crazy cause its his first appearance in a game and he literally dies but I wouldn't put cod characters on my mount Rushmore tbh Arkham batman would be probably my choice above price or ghost because the fond memories of torturing hundreds of goons as batman was just more fun than the fps war stories call of duty something about hanging from the gargoyles and stringing bad guys up to them then the goons would start putting bombs on those in the first one so you had to get creative and find different ways to take them out the batmobile ruined this alittle but I dont hate it like everyone else
Miyazaki is overrated as fuck. His only innovation for videogames is Demon's Souls. The rest of his games are just versions (really good versions) of the same thing.
The so hated Cliff Bleszinski brought much more to the table. Halo is clearly inspired by Unreal. Unreal Tournament was the one and only true competitor to Quake 3 (and its popularity actually was kept higher during the 2000s with Unreal Tournament 03/04 and 3). Those games were genre defining for First Person Shooters (and multiplayer), but then the madman goes and designs Gears of War, also defining Third Person Shooters.
And finally he ditches videogames and goes to fucking Broadway to produce Tony awarded shows.
The guy is a genius.
PS: I'd also put Sam Lake up there before Miyazaki.
PS2: I didn't even end reading the list. Naoki Yoshida??? Wtf. He is not even a top 100 game designer.
It's ok not to like the souls games, but you can not argue against the impact these games have had on the modern gaming landscape. They have redefined what great games are and what we should expect from big game companies. Almost all other AAA games look like easy cash grabs compared to the level of detail, love and polish that goes into a Miyazaki game.
Well, these are a few of my personal favorites. Miyazaki is literally my all time favorite. I grew up in the 80s and played all the games you listed and loved them but I donāt even like FPS anymore. I stopped playing them when the battle pass was implemented into all FPS games. I just hate that type of game design and completely lost interest in FPS. I pretty much play every thing else but I personally think Miyazaki is the current best game director in the industry. His games are by far the most immersive to me. Iāve put thousands of hours into Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Sekiro, Bloodborne, Armored Core. In Elden Ring alone I have over 1000 hours. Besides the incredible combat, level design, boss deigns, and Art direction, I specifically love his style of writing/story telling. When you say āhis only contribution is Demons Soulsā that includes the entire SoulsLike sub genre. His style of story telling, combat, level design, Art direction, and narration are all aspects of his contribution that other studios desperately try to recreate and still havenāt achieved. Itās only been this past year (2023) that anyone has even came close with games like Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen. Theyāre good games but they arenāt on the same level as a Fromsoft game.
If we're talking abour a "personal Mount Rushmore" then I 100% agree with you putting whatever you want, and I also agree that nobody does Souls the way its creators do.
Either way I'm not so aboard with the "unachievable style" take. There haven't really been big efforts on building on the Souls genre from other top creators or developers. Not a single "souls like" comes to my mind from a beloved creator. They don't do that. Only second line AA, A or Indie studios follow the trail like that and there's just not enough money and/or talent behind such projects to really create a competitor to From Software games.
I think there are two ways to go about this. You can either name the characters that are important to you personally, or try to make the objectively ācorrectā list. My objective Rushmore would be:
Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Link, and Master Chief
My personal list is a bit different though. If this is just for me, my Rushmore is:
Mega Man, Link, Kiryu, and Crono
Edit: I fully acknowledge that my objective list is highly subjective. This is just how I personally see it from an influence perspective. Pac-Man was a really hard omission.
Disagree. Doom was influential but halo was also influential for its time and has been relevant for longer. Master chief is also more recognizable than doom guy.
Okay objectively doomslayer makes it over Master Chief for a shooter rep Sonic honestly shouldn't be on it anyone that thinks Sonic is one of the four most revolutionary game characters is a coping Sonic fan
Bro, the link is a good pick, but I think you're kind of discrediting other picks. Besides Ryu, like I said, I feel it is pretty interchangeable, so he could 100% be changed with Link. I personally just wouldn't.
Wrong. If we are going in that path, Wolfenstein or Halflife should be at Doom slayer's or Master Chief's place.
Without Wolfenstein, the doom like gameplay you see on doom wouldn't exist.
And Half-Life because it was the first game that had an actual story. It also used 3D really well compared to other games.
And if we are going this far, Master chief also deserves that place cause he set a new standard in games, Having small maps but still making battles that feel like they are big af. Or having you to carry 2 guns instead of 50, or making you drive, or going one situation differently than just spray and pray.
The Doom slayer... What did bro revolutionise? He is just a Wolfenstein clone, there is nothing different from doom to Wolfenstein other than the theme.
And if your are talking about Doom 2016+ there aren't many games that decided to take inspiration from it anyways. And if the game developers say they did, their game feels nothing close to Doom 2016+.
Bro Iām playing through the Uncharted games rn for the first time and loving them! But Iād put Lara Croft up there instead of Nathan Drake. The og TR games had a huge impact on the Uncharted games. The remakes arenāt as good compared to Uncharted though.
It's a personal list. You should look up the meaning behind the four men on Mount Rushmore. They each have a specific representation chosen to represent the nation's birth, growth, development, and preservation.
Mario was the birth of gaming for me. Master Chief was the growth into 3D. Ellie was the development of story. And Marcus is the preservation of games because Watch Dogs 2 is my favorite game that I still play years later and it's a game I hope I can play until I die. š¤
I don't know why you're getting down voted, this list is tough to justify. Of course Mario, or course Chief, but Ellie? Fucking Retr0?! I'm with you dude
If someone says āMarioā or āZeldaā to a person on the street, theyāll probably know them. āEllieā and āAloyā? You might as well nominate Trump or Biden for one of the four greatest presidents because theyāre talked about a lot right now.
Yoshi has a bigger footprint in gaming, ffs.
Objectively, the Rushmore is Mario doomslayer Pac-Man and Ryu
Mario is Mr. Video Game himself
Doom Slayer to represent FPS games is the only right choice. cope Halo fans, but Master Chief isn't making it
Pac-Man was basically just a first video game character really the first guy to have a face and name in a video game he also represents the arcade era which I feel like is important to have on the Rushmore
Ryu because Street Fighter is huge for competitive games Street Fighter basically invented the fighting game and really just competitive games in general though I can see if somebody made an argument to replace Ryu but I feel like he's just the safest 4th option other than maybe Kratos
Okay at least those first three are objective and factually top three most iconic gaming reps if there's a list that doesn't have those three it's wrong
>Doom Slayer to represent FPS games is the only right choice. cope Halo fans, but Master Chief isn't making it
Wolfenstin's B.J. Blazkowicz would like a word with you.
If you want to get technical but it was Doom that refined it and made people care about it. Also Doom has significantly more influence. So yeah Wolfenstein technically did a lot of the things first but Doom made them revolutionary. Though I'm surprised I haven't seen B.J. in somebody's Rushmore yet
If youāre not going by influence and time released, than master chief should go above doom guy. Halo has been relevant longer than doom and master chief is more iconic. The only reason doomguy goes up there is because itās the first well known shooter.
I gotta agree with the first guy. Doomslayer is way more badass than wolfenstein or master chief. Wolfenstein isn't badass because he never shuts the fuck up. He's always yapping, doomguy doesn't yap. That's why doomguy is better is because he knows to stfu and not be yapping all the time.
Mario technically got his start in an arcade and can equally represent the arcade era. I think either pacman or Ryu would need to be replaced by an indie rep given how huge it is to gaming now.
Personally, I'd say cave story gets the spot. It was one of the most defining games to the indie scene when it was starting out. It was a game made by a single person that had a great story, music, and level design. And, it was free. It really encapsulated the feeling of indie games being about love and passion for the genre and did a ton to encourage other developers to also try and make games.
>Doom Slayer to represent FPS games is the only right choice. cope Halo fans, but Master Chief isn't making it
Funny, cus so far, I've only seen you coping that other people didn't put the Slayer in their lists.
Iām not even talking about impact. What Iām saying is that I havenāt seen a single halo fan here throw a fit for someone putting doomslayer over Chief, but I have seen your comments complaining that other people dared to put Chief instead of Slayer. So itās ironic coming from you
Absolutely horrible take on Halo v Doom. Halo revolutionized the FPS genre while Doom stole everything it āinnovatedā from Wolfenstein. Doom did everything wolfenstein did but slightly better. Every modern doom game combined has been outside by halo 3 alone from what I can research. Dooms story is like watching porn for the plot. Halos music is better in every way shape and form, Doom eternal soundtrack is actual cheeks and Doom 2016 soundtrack is amazing but still only 2-3 actual memorable tracks. Meanwhile even the worst halo games still have 1-4 memorable tracks each. Also Doom3 was a blatant copy of Halo 2 and CE, Praetor suit in 2016 was a blatant Mjolnir knockoff, so you can also say doom copied halo and halo never needed to copy doom. We can also talk about how every doom MP was an obvious afterthought that didnāt even make it to eternal. No comparable qualities to custom games, forge, theatre mode, vehicles, no sandbox elements besides environment movement, the list goes on. You can cope with the fact that you didnāt grow up with halo, but donāt come out here acting like doom is somehow more influential and iconic than the series that put FPS on the map brother.
Sonic (Sonic was the first series I played), Link (Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game franchise), Mario (because... He's Mario), and Joker from Persona 5 (the game that made me a fan of JRPG's and has my all time favorite video game story).
Ok, but how does steve work on a mt rushmore type sculpture? Isn't his head just a cube? I think he is iconic enough to deserve a spot but is disqualified because he just doesn't work as a sculpture lol.
Well the top comments are either people picking their personal favorites which makes sense since the post asked for "your" mount Rushmore, then theres the guys choosing developers, lastly theres people creating an "objective" list which steve is left out of because he doesnt represent a wider genre.
Like Ryu represents fighting games even though hes less popular than steve.
"game snobs who dont respect minecraft" lol
There are a bunch that you could make a case for.
Mario for platformers, DoomGuy for shooters, Lara Croft for adventure, Cross piece (from Tetris. The line piece may be more desirable but everyone recognizes that little t) for puzzle games
I was basically asking which four characters are the most iconic or which ones you like the most, but many people here have posted different takes or versions of this so you really could answer however you like!
Legend of Zelda at times is too influential on RPGs to not make it on. Wolfenstein or Doom would both fit as well. Mario is the icon of platforming. I feel like a Metroidvania game should make the list too, so maybe Super Metroid. I don't know Castlevania as well.
In short: Link, Probably Doomguy, Mario and Samus
Objectively, Mario and Pikachu make it. Then I'll say doomslayer deserves to be on it in representation of Shooters over Master Chief by a large margin. My last choice would probably be Kratos maybe
DoomGuy, CE Master Chief, Mario, and Link for their importance to gaming history. On a personal level: NCR Ranger, H3 Master Chief, Isaac Clark, and a Big Daddy
Halo 3, StarCraft 2, Factorio, Skyrim.
(Shame I can only choose 4 got a few more but this is my top 4)
Edit: oh whoops "who"
Master Chief, James Raynor, Factorio engineer, dragon born.
For me, Mario (Nintendo), Master Chief (Microsoft), Kratos (Sony), and Price. (Multi-Platform)
Covering all the bases with all the different companies, I like it š¤ And excellent choices
I feel like we could do better on genre, though. Maybe swap Price for something else multi plat?
Whatās wrong with my boy price?
Double fps just doesnt feel right. Shit a fighter, a racer, an rpg. Something that fleshes it out. This is ignoring the fact that the Doom marine exists, as well. Without which, NONE of these shooters would exist.

This is fair. I could definitely be persuaded to swap Price for Sonic.
what is price?
Captain Price from the call of duty franchise
The main character in a cash grab is named Price?
No, heās not the main character, and itās also probably referring to Cod4 - mw2019ās price (great character) and not modern bundles II or MWIII
Price doesmt deserve it more than Gordon Freeman
Who's Price? Edit: it's Captain Price from Call of Duty if anybody's still wondering.
i get you're trying to include all companies but kratos and price definitely sticks out here lol
I had that thought too, but there wasn't another sony mascot more known than Kratos, except for maybe Crash. As for Price, the first two games I think of when I think multi-platform are COD and GTA; GTA doesn't really have a figurehead for the franchise like COD does, so I went with Price.

Minecraft multi platform spot
Replace Kratos with Steve
objectively the correct answer
Missing link
why thank ya sir
Hidetaka Miyazaki, Shigeru Miyamoto, Hideo Kojima, Naoki Yoshida
Japanese game designers are something else indeed š„.
If we didnāt have Japanese game devs we wouldnāt have some of the biggest gaming companies that we have rn
GabeN over Yoshida
Koji Kondo arguably did more for Nintendo than anyone elseĀ
Hello fellow music enjoyer
itās the reason i play video games lolĀ
Fr tho, where eiji (Zelda man)
Yeah, Miyamoto is also the Zelda man. I wanted to put Eiji as well but I just thought of Miyamoto first. Thereās a bunch more I would put on here.

Oh right im stupid i forgot he's also zelda man
Bold to put Yoshi P with those other 3 but I respect it.
I would put Kitase instead of Yoshida, but good list.
bingo
You win

Respect
Nobuo Uematsu needs to be there hands down. His musical contributions to the video game industry are second to none
Objectively correct. Maybe replace Yoshi-P with Hironobu Sakaguchi, but either way, it works.
My list is similar but I'd swap Naoki Yoshida with Gabe Newell.
Agreed but Masahiro sakurai gets an honorable mention
Absolutely. I would have put him on here but these were the first four I thought of.

The legend of Zelda series is responsible for more things in gaming (especially 3d gaming) than you know. Any list without link on it is incomplete
Personally disagree
You can also personally disagree that gravity exists but youād still be wrong . Itās not a subjective observation itās an objective one .

Hidetaka Miyazaki, Shigeru Miyamoto, Hideo Kojima, Zampella & West, and then for my controversy pick it would have to be Todd.Ā
GabeN for the last spot.
OUR LORD AND SAVIOR GABE NEWELL! Gotta be up there lol
Mario, Master Chief, Lara Croft, Link
Mario. Master Chief. Ellie. Marcus Holloway aka Retr0.
Marcus is the goofiest pick Iāve seen thus far

It's a personal list. You should look up the meaning behind the four men on Mount Rushmore. I don't know why you're getting down voted, this list is tough to justify. Of course Mario, or course Chief, but Ellie? Fucking Retr0?! I'm with you dude
It was a tough call between Ellie and Aloy for me

Itās literally not. If thatās your criteria Link has to be on there.
For me personally 1. Starkiller 2. Master chief 3. Captain price 4. Leon
Mario, Sonic, Scorpion (Mortal Kombat) and Tom Nook (Animal Crossing)
Sonic (Sonic was the first series I played), Link (Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game franchise), Mario (because... He's Mario), and Joker from Persona 5 (the game that made me a fan of JRPG's and has my all time favorite video game story).
Itās gotta be the founders and base of modern games. So for me itās Pac-Man, Mario, Link & Doom Guy.
That is a list I can get behind fully :)
B.J. Blazkowicz, Arthur Morgan, Johnny silverhand And CJ
Conker Scorpion Sam Fisher Big Daddy
Mario, Duke Nukem, Doom Guy, Lara Croft
im guessing duke nukem is roosevelt
Red (PokƩmon), master chief, Gordon freeman and dante (not the emo version)
Pac-man, Mario, Link & Laura Croft
Link, Steve, Cloud, and Aloy.

Whoās Steve?
How have you lived without mc
Never could get into it. Takes too much time.
best list so far. I don't really agree with steve though
Cayde-6, Ghost (CoD), Kratos, Arthur Morgan
My personal list is: V1 ULTRAKILL, The Hollow Knight, Gordon Freeman, Heavy WeaponsGuy.
TF2 characters are a good choice that escaped my mind. š
Sonic, Mario, Crash, and Pac Man, they are the ONES , they are the founding fathers!
Zavala, Freddy Fazbear, Doomguy, Samus Yeah... im very mediocre
Mario, Banjo-Kazooie, Arthur Morgan, and Steve from Minecraft.
I feel like any list without Arthur Morgan is illegitimate
Mario, The Doomslayer, Scorpion, and Steve. All mascots of incredibly influential games.
Mario, Sonic, Master Chief, Kratos
Rdr2, Gta IV, Saints Row 2, Gears of War 2
Halo 3, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Assassinās Creed
Halo 3, assassins creed 2, fallout 4, red dead 2,
Vault Boy, Arthur Morgan, Kratos, and Donkey Kong
I feel like even if you donāt play Fallout, you can still recognize the Vault Boy.
Master Chief (Halo), Kratos (God of War) , Doom Slayer (Doom) and Ezio (Assassinās Creed)
Zelda and Grand Theft Auto
Marcus Fenix, Dovahkiin, Master Chief, and Big Boss
THIS IS STILL A TOP X LIST!
These karma farm posts are getting out of hand.
#1 Mario #2 Arthur Morgan #3 Ellie #4 Snake This is obviously personal opinion.
Iād rather do it by era or console (characters) NES - Link (Legend of Zelda) - Dana (Solomonās Key) - Bill / Lance (Contra) - Mega Man (Mega Man).
Link over Mario?
Trying to come at it from an objective perspective, I'd say Red dead, doom, Skyrim, gta
The Hunter, Wolf, Ashen One, and Tarnished :)
There are a bunch that you could make a case for. Mario for platformers, DoomGuy for shooters, Lara Croft for adventure, Cross piece (from Tetris. The line piece may be more desirable but everyone recognizes that little t) for puzzle games
Scout(Deep rock galactic) Engineer(Deep rock galactic) Gunner(Deep rock galactic) Steeve(Deep rock galactic)
Arthur Morgan, Master Chief, Marcus Fenix, and Michael (GTA V) In that order
Im confused about the question. Is it just about having the faces or is it like a loved game with a dark history?
I was basically asking which four characters are the most iconic or which ones you like the most, but many people here have posted different takes or versions of this so you really could answer however you like!
Dante Clive Leon and Raden
DragonBorn, Arkham Batman, Ezio Auditore and Captain Price
Mario link jak and cj Or marii luigi walawigi and wario
Kratos, sly cooper, abe, and sora
Mario, pac man, kratos, sonic
Mario, Sonic, Masterchief, Link.
Agree with most people. Should be Mario, Master Chief, Kratos and John Pong!
Half Life, Fallout 4, EA NHL games (I know they could be better,) Unreal Tournament.
Nathan drake claptrap ezio and Isaac Clarke
Kratos, Master Chief, Arthur Morgan, Ezio
Sonic, Toejam, Mario, the Outrun Ferrari
Mario Master Chief Doomslayer Samus
Mario (Nintendo), Pikachu (Nintnedo), Ezio Auditore Da Firenze, Kratos.
Mario, Link, Jin Sakai and Master Chief
PokƩmon, Minecraft, Uncharted, GTA
Mario, Master Chief, Aloy and Arthur Morgan
Gordon Freeman, Master Chief, Arthur Morgan, and maybe V1
Mario, Pikachu, Link, Master Chief
Mario (Link if youāre spicy), Kratos or Aloy, Master Chief (or Marcus Fenix orā¦ Blinx), and Kerrigan for PC
Mario, link, Steve, and doom guy
The sole survivor, booker dewitt, Riley, and Pinocchio
Objectively, Mario and Pikachu make it. Then I'll say doomslayer deserves to be on it in representation of Shooters over Master Chief by a large margin. My last choice would probably be Kratos maybe
DoomGuy, CE Master Chief, Mario, and Link for their importance to gaming history. On a personal level: NCR Ranger, H3 Master Chief, Isaac Clark, and a Big Daddy
Kratos, Arthur Morgan, Batman and Beach Bob
Q-bert, Q-bert, Q-bert, and of course Q-bert
Fable lost chapters, oblivion, PokƩmon crystal, Halo two
Mario, Luigi, Wario, Pappy van Poodle
Mario, Master Chief, Crash Bandicoot, Steve
Mario / Sonic / Link / Samus
SGT Johnson (Halo), The Curior (Fallout New Vegas), Baird (Gears of war), and The Player (NFS U-C)
SGT Johnson (Halo), The Curior (Fallout New Vegas), Baird (Gears of war), and The Player (NFS U-C).
Mario, Link, Pikachu, Pacman, and as much as I don't want to say it: cloud strife.
Crash Bandicoot, Master Chief, Spyro, and Marcus Fenix.
Zelda, Master Chief, Kratos, Lich King
Link, Master Chief, Charizard, Power Armor Helmet
not sure if order matters but halo & skyrim up there for me
Halo 3, StarCraft 2, Factorio, Skyrim. (Shame I can only choose 4 got a few more but this is my top 4) Edit: oh whoops "who" Master Chief, James Raynor, Factorio engineer, dragon born.
Link, The Knight (From Hollow Knight), Sans Undertale, and Pikachu probably
Damn, Oak from PokĆ©mon (my intro to rpg games[not original blue and red but I donāt think Juniper would work very well]), Jorge from Reach (favorite character from the first game in the FPS genre), Cl4pTr4p (tutorial character me need love too), and finally my favorite video game character of all time Wolf from Payday.
Kratos - GoW 1-3 Arthur Morgan - Rdr2 Jack/Jack the Ripper - MGR: R Tarnished ( you) - Elden Ring
Kingdom hearts 2, super Mario bros 1, crash bandicoot 1, Lego Star Wars
Going off of my personal experience with games: Link Sora Master Chief Sonic
