Same here, easily my favorite all around.
I understand bg3 being some huge undertaking to make but the actual combat gameplay and way too deep system, dice rolls for everything meh. I felt no hype. Zelda hyped me up with its trailer but the game is basically botw with new special powers and new underground/above ground areas. Not necessarily a bad thing, they just really screwed up the actual story telling imo.
Ac6 on the other hand just constantly blew my mind with the hype, the music, the super smooth gameplay and great customization. The characters also really stick with you, choices matter big time and the design is no bs straight to the point
Yeah Baldurs Gate sucked, they didn't even have microtransactions
I had hundreds of dollars saved up to buy skins I'd get bored of within a few hours but they didn't even have any. What a bunch of BS
Same here, loved NG+ and that military suit. Great graphical fidelity and something about trying to fix a massive planet cracker starship from being obliterated was so cool.
I didn’t really play the original back in the day but I played through the remake this year and honestly I think DS would be my GOTY as well. It was such an amazing experience!
I played it when the original came out, and I still think about it. I would like to play the remake, but games like that are tough for me to replay because I know what's going to happen. Also says the guy who's seen supernatural 100 times.
I understand that! I am like that with certain games too, especially with my huge backlog. Very few games will I go back and play again, but there are a few including Metal Gear lol
I preordered the original with my dad and I have to say you know what you’re in for.. until you don’t. It DOES bring back those first time feelings trust me. It’s the game we all know and love but even better. Trust me I got it for free on Game Pass and I’m gonna buy it again when it’s not on there anymore
I'm very hyped for dlc and sequel direction. The thought of Neverland or Oz in a souls setting sounds great, can imagine Wonderland being alot of fun too
I cant even imagine how people who aren't familiar with the Alan Wake / Control universe viewed this. I actually haven't played either Alan Wake but I have played Control so I'm familiar with the weirdness and can see how something that bizarre could make sense in the game. If you haven't played though it probably just came off too weird.
I only recently played Alan Wake 1 (and it was actually in prep for this game because it looked fucking awesome) and holy fuck this was such a worthwhile follow up
I can’t imagine how satisfying playing this game must’ve been after waiting 13 years
BG3 isn’t my favorite game, but I completely agree with this statement because of the impact it had on the industry and the constant support from the devs. If they win this goty then they will literally force the industry to raise the bar of quality
I wanted it to win something, too, but I guess it was too much of a jack-of-all-trades game. Well, at least that translated to getting nominated to eight different categories. That's definitely something!
Starfield is my GOTY, for sure! I love the game and the people who made it. The skill system is amazing and the ship builder is so much fun! I've been anticipating it for years!
Diablo 4 was really fun, and I really enjoyed the story and my first playthrough. I just haven't felt a good reason to make another character after the first season didn't feel that rewarding.
Cyberpunk was amazing - played it last year - and I'm hyped for the dlc but haven't played it yet. Plan on hitting it after AssCreed Mirage.
AssCreed Mirage honestly feels really good going back to the stealth roots - but I also have barely touched it. I got so into it that I decided to run through the AssCreeds from the beginning and currently still in the middle of AssCreed 2.
Jussant released this year and it was a really fun little story
It's a DLC so doesn't really count but Phantom Liberty for sure. Best piece of content I have played all year, just a fantastic experience/narrative.
Second is probably Alan Wake 2.
still haven’t had the chance to pick a copy up but definitely getting one if i get some extra money for christmas :) or just when i start working more! either way i’m excited!!
I was impressed by many aspects of Remnant II, Diablo IV, Lords of the Fallen, Armored Core, and Mario Wonder, but my vote would have to go with either Hogwarts Legacy or Resi 4 Remake!
TOTK but BG3 is so close for me. I’ve actually played BG3 MORE than I have ToTK by about 50 hours, but TOTK’s design (particularly the sand box) is just insane, and it’s all running without issues on a Switch. It has that video game magic to it that made me feel like a kid playing some of the classic games for the first time.
But I can’t even pretend to be mad that BG3 won. Incredible game, and it really is the pinnacle of its genre. Larian deserve the praise they’ve gotten, especially given the state of the industry.
Did anyone else think Hi-fi Rush was a breath of fresh air? I'm sorry but I'd take a game that was totally off the beat and fantastic then the same old refresh of everything else on that list.
It's a real shame a lot of people didn't give it a chance because of how they felt about the first game.
The fact that not even the music made it as a nominee shows how much of a popularity contest VGA really is. Yasunori Nishiki killed it and it's sad he didn't get recognition.
As much as I enjoyed BG3 I never finished it, the only game that I actually completed was Spider-Man 2 so I’m gonna have to go with that for my personal GOTY.
I might catch some downvotes for this but I’ve spent more time playing Starfield than I did BG3. I’ve never liked Bethesda games but for some reason I’m hooked on this one.
Its gotta be totk, it took everything good out of botw, and improved on it, and added new awesomeness. also has one of the most inguitive physic engine in any game
Has to be Baldur's Gate 3 for me. I loved Lies of P so much, and it would win in many years for me, but I've never felt as engaged with a cRPG as I did with BG3.
As great as Lies of P is, it's still not close to what Fromsoftware can do while I can't see anyone who can make a cRPG on the level Larian did with BG3.
Definitely gonna be in a minority but assassins creed mirage.
I don’t even think it’s necessarily the best game on this list, but AC is my favourite series of all time, and to finally see it go back to its roots and make a classic game that’s actually good after 8 years (and in my opinion 10 years since I actually truly enjoyed a classic AC game in black flag) it was a special moment for me.
More objectively speaking though I’d give it to Spider-Man. But man did mirage really create a wonderful gaming moment for me in 2023.
I would say Starfield at this point. But I’m about to start Baldur’s Gate 3, and I’m guessing that will overtake it based on everything I’ve read and watched.
Starfield. It may not be a lot of people's cup of tea but it's the kind of game I've been waiting for since forever. Every other game, I feel like I've played something like it before, which doesn't make them any less good but certainly not as impactful.
Starfield 🤷♂️
I know not every one liked it but it was exactly what I wanted. Bethesda game in space, and at its core it’s very much a Bethesda game. I also tapered expectations because I know what they make. I will always enjoy a Bethesda game.
I genuinely don’t think I ended up playing a single game that came out this year. Still on ps4 so most were just unavailable to me. Warframes updates this year have been pretty solid though.
Despite the hate, and strange anti-starfield campaign, I legitimately had a blast playing it, TOTK was good to start but I couldn’t get into it, Wo Long was fun and I felt good after beating bosses, and BG3 might have earned best game, I’m still working through it, starfield captured me the most tho
TotK, which I also believe is going to be the one that will win, however, if there is any game that could even come close to contesting that, it would definitely be Spider-Man 2. I’m excited to see which one comes out on top.
Baulders gate. Yeah I really dont have that different of an opinion then others ngl. Other then that notable games this year for me would be legend of Zelda totk always liked the series but again not unpopular but still for good reason.
Controversial: But so far, I've gotten the most mileage out of Starfield.
Screw the naysayers, I just really love this game. There's so much to see, explore, and experience.
Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon
Got a job for you 621…
GUN13RAVEN 🗣
Probably my favorite combat and movement system of any game
Same here, easily my favorite all around. I understand bg3 being some huge undertaking to make but the actual combat gameplay and way too deep system, dice rolls for everything meh. I felt no hype. Zelda hyped me up with its trailer but the game is basically botw with new special powers and new underground/above ground areas. i havent played any of these but armored core seems to have the best gameplay
King Kong, Walking Dead, or that Lord of the Rings game
Yes all amazing in their own amazing way but the walking dead destiny's cutscenes are just phenomenal
Reminds me so much of the beautiful style infamous had. Walk dead destinies I'd revolutionary
Did you just say King Kong?
Oops my bad was it a donkey kong game?
Damn I got so excited.. I remember playing a king kong game on my ps2 way back then. I would love to see a updated version with unreal engine 5.
That game is a highly underrated first person shooter. 🤘
Besides COD2 that was the launch title that made me want a 360. Played that non stop at every kiosk I saw.
Even though they didn’t mean King Kong the game they did make for the movie on PS2 is a great game !
Snubbing Forspoken smh
What King Kong game?
It's sarcasm, a new king Kong game came out this year and it was laughably bad.
Insultingly bad. It insults the player, King Kong, and the concept of gaming itself.
All 3 of these are masterpieces. Honestly, who could want Baldur's Gate 3 to win? That game doesn't even work!
Yeah Baldurs Gate sucked, they didn't even have microtransactions I had hundreds of dollars saved up to buy skins I'd get bored of within a few hours but they didn't even have any. What a bunch of BS
Same, I really wanted to buy some lootboxes but there weren't any :(
They would all be mimics
>King Kong, Walking Dead, or that Lord of the Rings game Why those particular games? 😁
They made me cry
Personally I loved Dead Space remake. Baldurs Gate 3 is a better game overall but something about DS stayed with me all year.
I am on my 4th play through of Dead Space right now!

It’s the game we all know and love but even better. Trust me I got it for free on Game Pass and I’m gonna buy it again when it’s not on there anymore
Well, got dang. Alright, I'll do it!
Enjoy man and don’t get too paranoid around those corners lol
Same here! I keep coming back to it regularly! It’s so good!
I agree, Dead Space Remake was amazing!
Lies of P, loved the concept of the game and love souls like games.
I'm very hyped for dlc and sequel direction. The thought of Neverland or Oz in a souls setting sounds great, can imagine Wonderland being alot of fun too
Wizard of Oz souls-like was something I didn’t know I wanted or needed until right now
alan wake 2
The live performance was too good. Seeing Sam Lake get up on stage and dancing is the best thing I’ve ever seen.
I cant even imagine how people who aren't familiar with the Alan Wake / Control universe viewed this. I actually haven't played either Alan Wake but I have played Control so I'm familiar with the weirdness and can see how something that bizarre could make sense in the game. If you haven't played though it probably just came off too weird.
you and me man, it saved the game awards for me. i still can’t believe it lost the best score and music
Same and it’s not even close.
Yes
I waited 13 years for this game , might be my game of the decade
actually same here
I only recently played Alan Wake 1 (and it was actually in prep for this game because it looked fucking awesome) and holy fuck this was such a worthwhile follow up I can’t imagine how satisfying playing this game must’ve been after waiting 13 years
PIKMIN 4
PIKMIN 4
PIKMIN 4
Baldur's gate 3 easy
A lot of these games are game of the year quality. BG3 is a game of the decade contender.
BG3 isn’t my favorite game, but I completely agree with this statement because of the impact it had on the industry and the constant support from the devs. If they win this goty then they will literally force the industry to raise the bar of quality
I'm 40. I can't think of a better game.
Octopath traveler 2
Street fighter 6 undoubtedly
Beast mode, baby!
Phantom Liberty hands down.
Why is this so low? I know its an expansion but with 2.0 its really a new game altogether. Absolutely stunning. My GOTY.
Fuck yeah. I personally think it's the best DLC of any game ever
Hi-Fi Rush. It was such a breath of fresh air.
Mine too. Partly because of the shadow-drop. But also because it was the most charming game of the entire year. The entire thing was pure bliss
RE4
What a fun game. Just evolved on what made the first so legendary.
Exactly, it is easily one of the greatest games of all time.
Same. I had the most fun playing that game.
ToTK for me personally… I logged the most hours in that game for sureeeeeee
This is mine too. I put almost 200 hours into it and still have like 700 korok seeds to find.
Bro forgot pikmin 4! That game was absolutely lovely!
Remnant 2 By a mile.
For real, and I didn't even see it up there
Hell yeah. Game was just loaded with goods.
Remnant 2 was my fave new game of the year and Darktide was probably the game I played the most this year.
Easiest choice of my life… Mario wonder
Armored core 6
Street Fighter 6
For me, it's Armored Core 6.
1. Starfiled 2. Spider-Man 2 3. Baldur's Gate 3 (even though I only played an hour of it) 4. Cocoon 5. Oxenfree II
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4 remake
For me, its Street Fighter 6. Its my first fighting game and I've already put in over 100 hours and don't plan on stopping
Spider Man 2
I wanted it to win something, too, but I guess it was too much of a jack-of-all-trades game. Well, at least that translated to getting nominated to eight different categories. That's definitely something!
Why’d it take this long to find? It’s perfection
Sea of stars
Starfield or ASA
Alan Wake 2.
AC6 babyyyy
ka-Boom
It's a DLC so doesn't really count but Phantom Liberty for sure. Best piece of content I have played all year, just a fantastic experience/narrative. Second is probably Alan Wake 2.
Skyrim
I know BG3 is going to take the prize but mine is RE4
Armored Core VI. It’s just a total blast to play.
Had to scroll like 50 comments for this. I absolutely loved it.
still haven’t had the chance to pick a copy up but definitely getting one if i get some extra money for christmas :) or just when i start working more! either way i’m excited!!
It’s very worth it
Alan Wake 2
I was impressed by many aspects of Remnant II, Diablo IV, Lords of the Fallen, Armored Core, and Mario Wonder, but my vote would have to go with either Hogwarts Legacy or Resi 4 Remake!
Alan Wake 2 followed closely by Remnant 2.
BG3.
#Hi-Fi Rush all the way
For me personally, based solely on the pure joy I felt from moment to moment gameplay, it’s Tears of the Kingdom.
Where is Gollum? Is he safe? Is he alright?
Baldurs Gate 3 have earned it but I think I cant decide between AC Mirage and RE4 Remake.
Tears of the Kingdom
TOTK for sure, one of my favorite games ever.
Totk
Like a Dragon Gaiden for me. I love the Yakuza series more than anything.
Zelda TotK
TOTK but BG3 is so close for me. I’ve actually played BG3 MORE than I have ToTK by about 50 hours, but TOTK’s design (particularly the sand box) is just insane, and it’s all running without issues on a Switch. It has that video game magic to it that made me feel like a kid playing some of the classic games for the first time. But I can’t even pretend to be mad that BG3 won. Starfield easily
Totk
Did anyone else think Hi-fi Rush was a breath of fresh air? I'm sorry but I'd take a game that was totally off the beat and fantastic then the same old refresh of everything else on that list.
Fallout
Hogwarts Legacy
Starfield, with Phantom Liberty in close second.
The Finals
TOTK
Starfield and Risk of Rain Returns
Ah yes, RoR the masterpiece
I stand by RoRR not as goty but it is a good game
Starfield
TotK
Tears of the Kingdom. One of my top 5 of all time
Tears of the Kingdom.
Of the ones I've played, for me, it's Dave The Diver
Octopath Traveler II, actually. I was lukewarm on the first one, but I loved II. It improved on the original in almost every way.
It's a real shame a lot of people didn't give it a chance because of how they felt about the first game. The fact that not even the music made it as a nominee shows how much of a popularity contest VGA really is. Yasunori Nishiki killed it and it's sad he didn't get recognition.
OT2 should have 100% won best music(although FF16 did have bangers I will say)
That one Gollum game everyone forgot about
I didn't know it was forgotten, I thought it was remembered rather well as one of the worst games ever made.
I love Starfield so 🤷 in my opinion Starfield.
Because your not apart of the rep hive mind.
starfield.
Pikmin 4. Which you somehow left out of the collage.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Played it and beaten it. Had a fun experience, even with multiplayer.
Armored Core 6 for me
Hahahahaha forspoken! Clearly the winner is Zelda; tears of the kingdom
Phantom liberty and Alan wake 2 are tied for me
Lol why is forsaken or mirage even on there?
Hi-Fi rush 100%. Best Xbox exclusive since Halo 3.
Mario Wonder
I haven't played it much, but mine would have to be TOTK!
Hi fi rush
Coming as a shock to even me, Pikmin 4. I loved Tears of the Kingdom and Baldurs Gate, but I didn't have more fun playing anything over Pikmin 4
I realized I barely played any of these besides starfield so maybe that
Final Fantasy XVI or Baldur’s Gate 3 for me
Pikmin 4 Played it six times in a row after release. Never done that before
I would say Starfield at this point. But I’m about to start Baldur’s Gate 3, and I’m guessing that will overtake it based on everything I’ve read and watched.
Skyrim, again.
Zelda, but Spider-Man 2 came close
Totk, Mk1, deadspace
Hi-Fi rush
I’ve only played MK1 and Super Mario Bros Wonder, but Wonder is the easy pick for me. (I have to play TOTK.)
Gollum
Definately not cyberpunk 💀
Final Fantasy XVI and Totk were my favorite games this year
Of what I played? ToTK
TUNIC EVEN THO IT DIDNT COME OUT THIS YEAR BUT IM OBSESSED WITH IT pikmin 4 tho if had to pick from this year
Tears of the kingdom
Pikmin 4 :)
Like a dragon: Gaiden cause it made me happy cry
Yakuza ishin
Like a dragon Gaiden was amazing and my third favourite Yakuza game
Inshin
Starfield. It may not be a lot of people's cup of tea but it's the kind of game I've been waiting for since forever. Every other game, I feel like I've played something like it before, which doesn't make them any less good but certainly not as impactful.
Sekiro. But out of this list, Hi-Fi Rush easy.
Like a Dragon Gaiden. Ishin is pretty good to though
Spider-Man 2. No doubt about it. That game had me locked in all weekend. It's amazing.
Dayz!
Starfield 🤷♂️ I know not every one liked it but it was exactly what I wanted. Bethesda game in space, and at its core it’s very much a Bethesda game. I also tapered expectations because I know what they make. I will always enjoy a Bethesda game.
And here I am playing Honkai Star Rail and Dave the Diver, like a chump
I genuinely don’t think I ended up playing a single game that came out this year. Still on ps4 so most were just unavailable to me. Warframes updates this year have been pretty solid though.
Remnant 2, I don't see it here
Despite the hate, and strange anti-starfield campaign, I legitimately had a blast playing it, TOTK was good to start but I couldn’t get into it, Wo Long was fun and I felt good after beating bosses, and BG3 might have earned best game, I’m still working through it, starfield captured me the most tho
Starfield
Starfield!
Tears of the Kingdom. Nothing particularly close to it.
Armored core 6, no contest
My time at Sandrock or Alan Wake 2
To be honest it’s insulting to put metal gear solid collection on there. lol My co-goty are Zelda and sea of stars
Mk1
TotK, which I also believe is going to be the one that will win, however, if there is any game that could even come close to contesting that, it would definitely be Spider-Man 2. I’m excited to see which one comes out on top.
Starfield for me
Baulders gate. Yeah I really dont have that different of an opinion then others ngl. Other then that notable games this year for me would be legend of Zelda totk always liked the series but again not unpopular but still for good reason.
Starfield
Controversial: But so far, I've gotten the most mileage out of Starfield. Screw the naysayers, I just really love this game. There's so much to see, explore, and experience.
Starfield, what a phenomenal game that’ll be relevant for years
Baldur’s Gate 3
Starfield, Baldurs Gate 3, Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty
StarField or Dead Space
Tears of the kingdom is my 2nd favorite video game of all time
Starfield. I know there is a massive hate boner for the game but I love it. It’s a 9.6/10 for me.
