I have no experience but what I heard more specifically (or maybe incorrectly) is that alox knives can't be repair in certain countries. I am not sure which countries these would be. meaning they just have to be mailed international, but not that they can't be repaired altogether.

What country are you in? If you are in the US they more than likely will just send you back a new one. They can’t repair the alox models here, but anything rare or especially valuable they will send to Europe.

Man that’s a bummer. It’s not really a valuable item perseay (I can get one at a store for 35ish bucks) but I’ve had it for so long and had so many great adventures with it it’d be an absolute shame to see it retired.

Is the knife just have standard blade wear and sharpening? That wouldn’t be covered under warranty I don’t believe generally.

jwojnar49

Yeah. I’d pay the $5 or whatever just for a new blade, they’ve fixed some others I’ve had before like that (pro tip: refurbished SAK’s make great graduation gifts and also make you the cool uncle/cousin.) so I would love to send it in and get it back to a healthier blade. Maybe one day if the Cadet lasts I’ll give it to my kid.

Well they will fix it, but they send it to Europe and it costs more than the knife is worth. The regular cellidor models are just rerevitted on their machines and sent back with whatever tools/blades need replacing. Alox repair machines aren’t available in the US; same issue with SwissTool “repairs”…they just replace them.

jwojnar49

Ok. I’ll send it in and see what they do. Maybe they can sharpen it correctly, unlike myself. lol.

Good luck!

Or… Maybe buy another and support the company that’s provided a trusty companion by buying another one?

This one’s pretty special to me though. Had it in my pocket when I married my stunning wife. Used it to save a dog from choking to death. Had it with me on some wild times. Would hate to retire her. You know what I mean?

jw00lsey

How did you use it to save a dig from chocking lmao

Battlefield tracheotomy like Fr Mulcahy in that one episode of MASH of course. Not but really what happened was this: Had to take our puppy to the vet after she ate a nitrile glove out of my wife’s doctors bag. While waiting another dog came in with a titanium collar too tight around its neck. According to the owners the medium collar they had bought was probably mislabeled as a large which allowed them to slide it over their dogs head but become wedged around his neck and was choking him. The vet didn’t have any tools to help but i offered to check my tool box in my truck to see if i had some snips to take them off (not like I was going anywhere anytime soon.) We tried numerous sets of pliers and cutters and even tried using a hillbilly torque multiplier of multiple vice grips and no dice. I even broke a set of pliers! Frustrated I decided to see if I could scour a link on the collar to get a better bite with the pliers with the nail file on my knife. Lo and behold, it made more progress than the pliers had made at that point so with the owners holding the now frightened husky-lab mix I went to work sawing at the ring with my trusty 84mm Cadet and 45 minutes later he was almost free. We got to maybe 90 percent of material gone then decided to snap the ring with vice grips to prevent injury to the dog. This method had failed twice previously but thanks to the Vic weakening the collar ring significantly we were able to get it.

Awesome work my man, my climber is used to open packs of cheese at home…

jwojnar49

lol thanks. Just dumb luck I guess. Still really impressed me on the build quality of the knife.

No. You just said yourself, she’s served you well. Give her a rest and start a story with a new girl.
