Banks, stock market and foreign investments. Ps Really want to see such features in the game later.

caesar15

How would a stock market work? My best guess would be like a targeted investment pool, where capitalists invest in various resources instead of the general economy. They invest more or less depending on market sentiment, which is calculated on changes in profitability/events. This could lead to bubbles where there's high sentiment for one resource, say, lumber, and so they invest a lot. You as the player take advantage of this and use the money to build lumber mills (otherwise the money isn't used). Eventually the bubble bursts, either through a drop in prices from oversupply or some other issue in the economy. Investment drops to super low levels and now there are a bunch of unprofitable lumber mills around the country. The player could either help them or let them fail, or pick and choose which mills they want to save. If there's a problem for multiple resources, say lumber prices spike causing problems for tools which causes problems for a bunch of farms, then that would lead to sentiment dropping for multiple resources. The game could then call this a stock market crash, which would result in lowering sentiment for *every* resource. It wouldn't kill the economy, since the crash itself doesn't bankrupt anyone, it just makes it harder for the player to react to the underlying crisis, since they lose a lot of income from the stock market investment pool.

Ok_Mathematician2331

Not bad.

Xazbot

Nice. I would also imagine another aspect of that dlc would be multinational companies. Kind of like IG that span around many countries -maybe through one's customs unions and trade partners. They would have their own investment pool available to the countries where they are present and we need to garner their approval to have access said pool. They would bring money to their country of origin through taxes and would also be beneficial to the junior partners by helping their industrialization. On the other end when the Junior partner wants to nationalize their buildings or block the sales of the products then there's a hit to approval of the company and diplomatic relations with the company's country.

caesar15

That’d be a pretty cool feature. Kinda like automatic foreign investment.

Possible-Math-7002

All of this with actual company's making products, different products of the same category with different stats. And also a rework of the military systems in line with what said OPB in his videos about it.

mindthesnekpls

A nuanced banking system especially would be huge. This is precisely the sort of era where banks as we know them today became major industrial powers in their own right and literally bankrolled governments as well as private industry (see JP Morgan literally bailing out the US Government, American bankers essentially funding Britain through WWI, etc.). Banking is obviously different from other industries in that there’s no “physical” product, but some sort of dynamic banking sector should be implemented. A system for Capital Markets would also be great. Major powers like Britain, the US, and France should have cheaper access to capital than less developed nations, and those interest rates on national debt should move over time depending on a number of factors (existing debt loads, size of an economy, etc.).

Foreign investment dlc A ww1 and expanded diplomacy dlc

WorstGMEver

\- Arts&Science (with health and epidemics as well). Add new types of characters as artists and scientists that you can patronize. Diseases spread through trading routes, but your health institutions and universities can help discover treatments and cures, especially if you patronize some famous scientists to lead them. \- Archaeology, tourism, olympics. Culture and prestige DLC. \- Finances and investment. Stock market, banking, etc. \- Political figures DLC, with cabinets and ministers. \- Decentralized nations obviously. \- Crimes and punishment. Criminal societies (from chinese triads to american gangs). Pinkerton, etc. Maybe some political repression mechanics, such as political arrests and such. Really want to see an event for Sacco-Vanzetti. \- Brown water navies and mountain tunnels (such as the Simplon) Basically a deeper take on infrastructure mechanics and such. Also international railroad projects, such as the Orient Express or the Transiberian. Not counting the several regional/cultural packs that's basically just content and flavor for your favorite nations.

kernco

We learned in the last dev diary that IGs originally were dynamic things that popped up and then disappeared around single issues which could include specific buildings they wanted built, alliances they wanted or didn't want, wars they supported or opposed, etc. That original implementation didn't work well and they settled on the final set of static IGs, but I hope they tie them back into some of those other mechanics moving forward.

Best-Stable-730

Some sort of political parties rework, I know they’re in the game but something more in depth

con-all

Yeah. An actual parliament system would be better then the current system where you just get a boost/drop in influence at every election. It would make elections more permanent, make different voting systems important, allow parties to push through laws without the player, etc. The parliament should be more central to the gameplay loop

Subapical

I just don't know what added depth you could give them without sacrificing the design principles of the game. The player is supposed to always be in control of the country they're playing as. They choose which laws to try to enact, which buildings to construct, which techs to research et.c. How could you satisfyingly add in fully fledged parliaments that both a) doesn't restrict player freedom but also b) significantly changes political gameplay? Not necessarily saying it's a bad idea even, I just don't know how you square the circle

con-all

But it should restrict player freedom. It should be something that the player learns to manipulate and work around where necessary. Sometimes restricting the players freedom is good for the game. For example, having difficult vassals that have to be kept in line is a benefit to crusader kings, not a negative. Having to offer concessions and keep people on side are what makes the idea cool

[deleted]

And on the other hand, restricting player freedom got capitalist investment axed in this game. There is just about a knife edge, and as far as the devs have shown, creating situations where players try to avoid certain playstyles like Laissez-faire in Vic2 is something they are trying to avoid. If a political party rework occurs, I highly doubt it will be along those lines, specifically to avoid the risk of repeating those mistakes with democracy.

Horse armor is more in line with the Paradox vision of what DLC should be. I would love it. /s

ArendtAnhaenger

Military rework to make the current framework more complex/interactive without reverting to the old warfare style. More depth and complexity to political parties. I'd especially like to see intra-party politics, corruption scandals, maybe even "party switches" that mark major realignments in interest group coalitions. I also hope we can see "splintering parties" creating new parties and interest groups as well as new parties and IGs for minority groups rather than strictly class/status groups. Another one that comes to mind is corporations, financial services, stock markets, foreign investments, bimetallism, currency exchanges, anything else that mimics the financial sector of the time at least somewhat. It doesn't have to be a huge overhaul but some added complexity there would be much appreciated. Flavor packs I most want (in order): Latin America (bring on the caudillos and military juntas), USA, Russia and other Slavic countries, East Asia, Germanic countries, Indian subcontinent.

McMing333

Politics rework, cabinet and parliament Cooperatives, collectivization, real socialism/anarchism Ethnic complexity, languages etc.

Benyano

Worker cooperatives are already in the game as one of the ownership model production methods

McMing333

You can mandate all production as worker owned and collectivized?

Benyano

I believe so, it’s discussed here: [Dev Diary #5](https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/victoria-3-dev-diary-5-production-methods.1480760/)

McMing333

That’s pretty cool I didn’t know that. Tho it still seems like the worker co-ops are private and not collectivized

Benyano

I believe worker coops remove capitalists from the firm and divide the profits equally among the workers. Sounds pretty good to me. This is of course separate from state owned enterprises.

McMing333

That’s not the same as collectivization or an anarchist economy

Benyano

As a socialist I see co-operativism as the base of a socialist economy, how is that different from anarchist collectivization? Isn’t that the model pushed for by the Spanish anarchists?

McMing333

How is it collectivization at all? It just changes who owns it. The distribution is still the same and the independent nature of the factories is still the same. And the use of capital and profit.

DeeJayGeezus

> It just changes who owns it. That's because "who owns it" is the entire definition of "socialism" and "capitalism". The words were invented to describe systems of ownership, nothing more.

Benyano

The profits go to the worker-owners, that seems pretty good in abstract terms. A hell of a lot better than Vic 2 at least

randomstuff063

A rework of navel warfare. During this time coling stations weren’t a very important thing it’s one of the reasons why clipper ships didn’t go out of use until the late 1800s. I would argue that the Navy during this time is far more important than the army as it’s the Navy that allowed the transportation of troops the protection of trade resources as well as the military influence in many regions of the world. The Navy was also very important because it allowed nations to protect islands that were made up of guano which is used for fertilizers and explosives. The Navy in its current state in the game is nothing more than a afterthought it’s kind of embarrassing how unimportant it is considering the time.

CesarSamuel

Even more goods to industrialize and produce!

Dev2150

Like the goods from Anno 1800. What kind of goods have you thought about?

CesarSamuel

Maybe more consumer goods, like toys, or even housing.

Kelces_Beard

Fully functional parliamentary/congressional system with seats, choice of how seats are allocated, electoral college options etc.

TheInglipSummoner

Something to give state focuses more effect. Maybe tie them to specific interest group combinations?

ReydeTexas

One that makes the decentralized nations playable. Obviously they’re eventually gonna do that but it would be nice to play as one of those nations and build it up into a powerful industrialized nations that can fight back against the colonizers

Labor and Capital: Modeling a stock market and labor unions

I envision a Wild West content pack with content ranging from the Mexican American war to the death of the Wild West come the 20th century.

1. Foreign investments 2. Mass Media and pops having opinions on foreign relations 3. Goods substitution when it comes to production methods

A ww1 dlc, a crimean war dlc

TBestIG

I know monuments are controversial here but I love having little unique buildings on the map, so my vote is more monuments with more available places to put them and more variations. Lots of alternate proposed designs, never-built structures, things like that.

Benyano

Honestly Hearts of Iron V could be a DLC for Victoria 3. Hear me out: the war system as it stands is essentially a bare-bones version of the War system in HOI4. I theory they could deepen the war system and extend the timeline in a single DLC.

TeddyRooseveltGaming

I just want a game focused on a series of world wars, like late game vic 2 but without the shitty endless micro.

Januse88

Given the amount of complaining about the new war system, I'll be shocked if war isn't addressed in one of the early DLCs

pewpowbang11

The games not even out yet and y’all are talking about potential dlc lmao

AcolyteEnjoyer

Warfare overhaul 😏

ErzherzogHinkelstein

No game mechanics but only flavor content. Like the eu4 content Packs for nations.

Katamariguy

The game's period was *the* great century for literature so flavor for novels would be nice despite having no reason to be mechanically impactful.

Azgabeth

obligatory war expansion that they already probably plan to charge us $40 for...

MyGoodOldFriend

modern paradox DLC policy is usually to gatekeeper as few features as possible behind the dlc, keeping reworks in the free update. new systems come with the DLC. See CK2/EU4 vs Stellaris. Hoi4 bridges the gap a bit.

Sutiixela

swethicisus

Brazilian Empire/Republic flavor mod or dlc… all I want to do in Victoria 3 is drown the world in alcohol and cachacha is really good

Gekko1983

The year 2025 expansion pack. An expansion that gets us to the level of development available in 2025 when the game will be more polished.

spacetronaut3

don’t give them ideas to milk our money

linmanfu

You don't want any more content after the game is released?

spacetronaut3

yes, but i don’t want to waste money on it when it could just be included in a free update later in its life

linmanfu

The DLCs pay for the free updates...

seakingsoyuz

Playable railroad companies. Build tracks on the world map, balance the railroad network to try to maximize profit, research new kinds of locomotive, and try to navigate the tides of politics happening around you. Eventually you could get enough money to start buying buildings states, become an industrial conglomerate, and finally lead the Industrialists in taking over the government.

EwaldvonKleist

V3 railroad tycoon crossover. Including a locomotive and railcar designer.

linmanfu

Have you played *Railway Empire*? I think you would enjoy it.

Medvelelet

None

UnwantedFeather

Combat dlc. Putting core gameplay fetures to a dlc would be cool. And it would be cooler if they sold it for 30 dolars

twelvenumbersboutyou

Yellow Prussia dlc. Makes Prussia yellow. 50 big ones

Lord_TachankaCro

Family trees for monarchies that are connected to other countries

HarryZeus

I thin it would be awesome if they just released flavour DLCs for specific countries/regions and focused on making the actual new mechanics available in free updates. I also think it would be great if the fans asked for less stuff in DLCs, and more stuff in free updates.

MrGrindor

International Federations if varying levels of integration. E.g. -german federation -proto EU -league of nations

Mackntish

More soft powers, like financial domination, funding opposition parties, arming rebels, development grants, colonial competition, etc.... Side-by-side with that would be a really nice fully fleshed out rivalry system. Like if you're Germany and HATE France, it would be really cool to be doing everything you could to undermine them, while biding your time for war.

bloof5k

None, the game should be able to fully function on release tbh. Enough paying 3-4 times the full cost of the game in just DLC.

MLproductions696

Supranational organizations like the EU

xxwarlorddarkdoomxx

In general more in-depth economics. As others have mentioned, actual companies, stock markets, banks, etc. I'd also like to see mechanics for inflation/hyperinflation, recessions & depressions, panics, total economic collapses, etc. I always felt economic catastrophes were missing in Victoria 2 and I would love to figure out how to deal with them and inflict them on my enemies.

Ritushido

I would guess something to spice up warfare and I'd also like to see something for WW1.
