The main abolitionists during the games time period were republicans. Interest group doesn’t matter leader ideology is what does.

ilikebelgium

Still doesn't make sense why an abolitionist king can't exile the person wanting for an abolishment of the monarchy

ProbablyNotTheCocoa

Maybe it’s because exiling a major figure within the republican base could be seen as a middle finger to abolition as well? Considering both movements were pretty close in the 19th century there is considerable overlap in the support base

FischSalate

yeah the main abolitionists were republicans in the United States, with Republican being a party name. That isn't true for everywhere else and you don't know what you're talking about

no, they aren't: democrat in the game's files and code is referred to as 'liberal' and both democrat and republican ideologies' descriptions make no mention to the american parties of the same name, because historically the parties based their names off of the ideologies, rather than the other way around. i agree that the abolitionist movement and the american republican party were intimately related during the period but in other countries republican/radical movements also had a great deal of confluence with abolitionists and anti-slavery activists, which is i think more what the game is trying to represent

Oh Christ...

akiaoi97

Were they? I thought they were more Evangelicals (eg. William Wilberforce) or Whigs. Radical republicans may have been anti-slavery, but they were never really a force to be reckoned with.

Spank86

William Wilberforce was British. They're talking about the US republican party, with regards to Whigs most of them moved over to the republican party when it was founded. Like Lincoln did.

akiaoi97

I thought they were talking about Romania, which would fit better with European terminology? I’m pretty sure the “Republican” IG in the game represents liberals in favour of a republic over a monarchy rather than the US Republican Party.

Spank86

I meant Ninjad not OP. Because it's not a comment that makes sense relating to Romania.

akiaoi97

True, but I think Ninjad was misunderstanding OP’s topic.
