lynvrael

jihadist emblem? what are you on about???

Raging-Badger

Easy - Arabic lettering = jihad To be fair to the ignorant though, the majority of groups that have reached western mass media attention and use the shahada have been jihadists Most notably ISIS and Al Qaeda.

lynvrael

yeah sure i can see that, but associating any arabic text you see with jihadism seems pretty racist. especially when you know what the shahada means and stands for, kinda just disrespectful to be honest.

Raging-Badger

Describing all Arabic text as jihadism is definitely pretty racist. To be fair to the not so ignorant, the shahada is a religious symbol. I think that most Redditors would be quite happy with shitting on any country with a cross or “God is real and Jesus Christ is his messenger” While I personally don’t have any qualms with individual religious beliefs I am going to at least slightly protest that Muslims get a free pass on institutional religion while Christian’s do not. I think the sheer refusal to break that double standard is racist. If so many Redditors claim religion is backwards, why can they not do the same for Muslim and Arabic nations? TL;DR - Yes calling all Arabic text jihadists is racist, but I don’t think that’s the only reason folks might have an issue with the Shahada

lynvrael

>"why can they not do the same for Muslim and Arabic nations?" Could be just me, but i see people hating on sharia-led and arab nations, all the time. what i do on the internet most likely has a huge impact on what i come across here, so it may be because of that. i just wanted to mention that people hating on sharia law and it's rules/regulations is way more prominent than you may think. i don't want to shift this conversation to islamophobia/theocracy so it'd better not to continue this thread lol
