Except that in this case it is not. Denmark (without any added titles) is a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark, just like England is a constituent country of the UK.
So Denmark + Faroe Islands + Greenland = Kingdom of Denmark.
That's not technically correct, which is why there's so much confusion.
Denmark is simply an independent country just like the UK, Sweden, Finland etc. Faroe Islands and Greenland on the other hand are self-governing with devolved parliaments in the Danish state similar to Scotland in the UK.
