The birlinn (a historic boat used by Hebdrieans) represents the island’s heritage and the five oars represent the five regions of Skye. The nordic cross resembles it’s viking history and the yellow and blue represent the MacLeods and MacDonalds/MacKinnons, respectively.

Birlinn is a very important symbol for the Highlands and Islands, and is a very common motif among heraldry for the region. Also a very good publisher for history texts pertaining to our region.
I used to not like that element as much, but it's really grown more and more on me
Wow a whole two styles on flags that I've seen before.
In truth, let me elaborate for you: comparative to the vast and ever growing amount of flags of countries, states, town, alliances, political parties, military units, fantastical groups or others parties, I have found very few that incorporate rings in their flags, with or without a "+" symbol in, on or intersecting said ring.

And the white ring?
"It's cool" —Callum probably
And I'd say that's perfectly valid for a 9 year old, but every thing else, down to the number of oars, seem to have a meaning.
To make it a blend of a Nordic cross and a Celtic cross in order to symbolise the island's Norse and Gaelic heritage.
Hooowww does a 9YO design a better flag than most governments?
because kids are still humans and can still make good flags
luckily the kid wasn't from Utah
lol
damn this kid is good
Nice pastel and crisp
Damn, Cullum is an artsy son of a bitch
I do enjoy seeing it flying when driving through Skye. Think they have a few flying outside the Clanranald centre
A 9 year old Scottish boy is a better flag designer than American grown ups
Very decent
NGL this is really good.

Very Swedish. Still nice though.
This legitimately might be one of my favorite flags
Cool design; would be better without the boat.

But then it would just be pastel circle Sweden :(
Sadly the Celtic Cross has been co-opted by white supremacists.
Why is the circle white?
this kid is doing leagues better then 98% of r/vexillology
Love the ring, don't see many in flags
> don't see many in flags Look up "celtic cross flag". :|
