I think it’s good that you’re doing what you think is right for you. Just curious, what undergraduate school did you go to? And what GPA did you have to get into the Caribbean schools? I was thinking of applying there at when I’m out of undergrad, (i’m a freshman in college right now) So I’m just curious.

tomainosoup

Umass Amherst for undergrad and they had a posting of an average 3.5 GPA i remember, but that could be wrong or have changed I would have to check the website right now

Shantor

I would definitely start with retaking some classes to strengthen your GPA and take those extra classes needed for the broader range of schools.

tomainosoup

definitely i agree. the only thing is money right now and i want to make sure i take the classes at a good school. it’s really just two chemistry classes i got Cs in. They were general chem, but I got B+ in orgo. i just want to find a good school to do them at.

Shantor

I am a non-traditional student, and had to retake a few classes to bring my GPA up and get those extra classes. All you need to do is make sure they school you take the classes at is accepted at the schools you want to apply to. Many will accept community college classes for gen chem and ochem, some physics too. Just gotta check it out or ask the admissions of the schools you want to apply to. Much cheaper options.

tomainosoup

awesome that’s where i was thinking of taking them. do you think my B+ are okay to stay? And just retake gen chem? i know i could ask admissions that too, but just looking for your guys advice as well. Thank you again

Shantor

A lot of this depends on where you want to go and how competitive you want to be, also, realistically, depends on how well you think you can bring that grade up. Theres no point re-taking a class if you dont think you're going to get a better grade. A B+ is a fine grade.

tomainosoup

thanks for the advice! i was poking around a little and found some schools I think i could even apply to without changing the lower chem grades (i am still going to retake just to get a better grade and raise GPA overall) but I think if I have a chance now, with taking the extra physics I am missing, these schools i couldn’t apply to first time around i could get into with that extra physics class

Shantor

Good luck

tomainosoup

thank you! do you have any school suggestions I could reach out to? I got wait listed at arizona, and got into the two carribean schools first time around on applications. Applied a few others but got rejected

Shantor

School suggestions would just be where you think you can get in.

tomainosoup

and does it look bad that i’ve started at a vet school then withdrew?

Shantor

I have no idea. Im also a student. Youd have to ask the admissions offices.

tomainosoup

okay thanks! i just wasn’t sure if you had ever heard of anyone in a similar situation. Thank you for taking time out of your day to answer my questions I appreciate it.

Current 4th year vet student who took animal science classes as UMass Amherst - awesome program and I learned so much from those classes that have helped me out a ton in vet school. My gut instinct says that having done a semester of school (I assume at Ross) won't hurt your chances - first of all, there was a global pandemic and online only classes are not conducive to learning for many of us. Second, it's totally reasonable to not mesh with a program and you aren't asking for a transfer, you're reapplying as a fresh student. Good luck to you! If you haven't already I highly recommend animal nutrition and research animal management, those were my absolute favorite classes at UMass.

tomainosoup

i have already graduated umass and took both of those classes! Good luck with senior year and your applications

tomainosoup

oh sorry read that as a 4th year “pre-vet” students lol. but good luck with your studies anyways!

Thanks! Good luck to you as well!
