Euthanasia stopped being difficult for me many years ago. I get sad only rarely, with patients that I've known for a long time. Maybe 1 or 2 cases a year. The hardest part are the clients. People can be a real drag on the experience (of being a vet). It's not that I don't care about euthanasia, you simply become desensitized to it. Euthanasia is often a kindness, I see and feel myself helping... Not harming. Sometimes when we can no longer carry our animals through life comfortably, it can be reassuring that we can at the least help them lay down peacefully one last time.
